Spotlight: Baderbrau Christmas Bliss

Baderbrau Christmas Bliss

Christmas in a can might be the best way to describe Baderbrau Christmas Bliss.

Baderbrau, a small brewery located on Wasbash Avenue in Chicago, Illinois, has a little can of Christmas for you. We can only assume the Chocolate Orange candy weighs a bit heavy on the inspiration for this Baderbrau creation. Terry’s, a British chocolatier, created the Chocolate Orange back in 1932. Their heavy advertising around the Christmas holiday turned it into a massive seasonal favorite in the U.K. 80 years later it is popular all over the world.

Since rich chocolate, fruits and candy are a seasonal staple this time of year, why can’t beer be the same? A Baltic porter serves as the backdrop for hints of orange and vanilla that Baderbrau has added. For as rich as this beer is, it’s far from heavy. Pints of this are easy to put down.

Tis the season of drinking with friends and family, and Baderbrau most certainly created Bliss with that idea in mind.

Baderbrau Christmas Bliss is available seasonally in 12 ounce cans and draft.

Style: Baltic Porter (w/ Orange, Vanilla)
Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft.

Big on fruit. Heavy Seas TropiCannon now year-round

Heavy Seas Tropicannon

Heavy Seas TropiCannon has returned to the brewery’s lineup once again. This time, year-round.

Loosely based on the brewery’s Loose Cannon IPA, Heavy Seas TropiCannon is hoppy, with a blast of tropical and citrus fruits. The brewing team introduces dried grapefruit, oranges and lemons during the brewing process, and mango, blood oranges and grapefruit post-fermentation. While Loose Cannon is heavy on the piney hop flavor, Heavy Seas boosts the citrus flavor by swapping Centennial and Palisade hops for Amarillo.

“TropiCannon was a pleasant surprise for us in 2016. It was originally planned as a limited release product, but so many people kept asking for it that we decided we needed to make it available on a year-round basis. At least for now. This is part of what makes the beer industry so fun!” – Hugh Sisson, brewery founder.

Heavy Seas TropiCannon is available in 12 ounce bottles and draft. A release party is planned at the brewery in Baltimore, Maryland on December 16th.

Style: IPA (w/ Mango, Lemons, Blood Orange, Grapefruit.)
Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft. Year-round

Passionfruit, orange, & guava highlight Maui Brewing POG IPA

Maui Brewing POG IPA

Maui Brewing POG IPA is the latest release by the Hawaii based brewery, based on very popular juice drink.

Let’s start with POG. The acronym stands for the the juices ingredients- Passionfruit, Orange and Guava that got its start back in 1971. A woman named Mary Soon is accredited with the creation, who worked of the Haleakala Dairy on Maui. Interestingly, those same POG caps gave rise to a 1990’s game by the same name – POGS. (IF you don’t know what we are talking about, Google it.)

Maui Brewing POG IPA is an India pale ale brewed with Enigma, El Dorado, Jerrylo, and Citra hops, plus fresh Passionfruit, orange and guava. As you can imagine, the end result is hoppy, juicy, and full of tropical flavor.

Sourcing enough of the three fruit varieties is the biggest challenge. On top of that, guava has a really short shelf life once picked. It really makes brewing this beer exciting, because all of a sudden when the farmer has the yield we need, it’s GO time!” – Matt Ponichtera, Maui Brewing Supervisor

Maui Brewing POG IPA is available in 12 ounce cans across the brewery’s entire footprint for a limited time.

Style: IPA (w/ PassionfruitOrangesGuava)
Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft.
Debut: December, 2016

Boulevard Cranberry Orange Radler, the brewery’s 2nd debuts

Boulevard Cranberry Orange Radler

Boulevard Cranberry Orange Radler is now hitting shelves.

In 2014, the brewery debuted Ginger Lemon Radler. A departure from the brewery’s exemplary lineup? Sure. A success? You bet. Lighter alcohol offerings are always in demand.

Now in October, Boulevard Cranberry Orange Radler is expanding the brewery’s radler lineup. Jeremy Danner, brewer at Boulevard mentions that the process to create this release is pretty much the same – base beer is Unfiltered Wheat; swapping in ginger and lemon juice.

Cranberry Orange Radler will open with an aroma of sweet blood oranges and just a hint of cranberry. The blood orange character boldly manifests in the flavor giving way to cranberry tartness.

Boulevard Cranberry Orange Radler is a 12 ounce can and draft offering in fall, 2016.

Style: Radler (w/ Cranberries, Oranges)
Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft.
Debut: October, 2016

Red Hare Cotton Tail Orange Creamsic-ale, a beer dessert

Red Hare Cotton Tail Orange Creamsic-ale can

Red Hare Cotton Tail Orange Creamsic-Ale is the next canned release by the Marietta, Georgia brewery.

The base beer being their year-round Cotton Tail Pale Ale, the Red Hare Brewing team has added orange and vanilla, with extra citrus notes coming from an addition of Zythos hops.

The result? It really does taste like an orange creamsicle. Plus a little bit of hoppy pale ale too. Our description might not do the beer justice, but believe us when we say, your nose will know when you open this can.

Orange flavors mirror the citrus notes of Zythos hops, while smooth sweet vanilla beans compliment their slight bitterness. Tastes just like a cold orange creamsicle on a hot day!

Style: Pale Ale (w/ Orange, Vanilla.)
Hops: Zythos
Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft.
