Avery Expletus, Barrel-Aged Series #36 on March 20th

Avery Expletus

Avery Expletus is the next Barrel-Aged Series release (#36) on March 20th, 2016. This edition is the brewery’s own version of a Tequila Sunrise (typically made with orange juice, cherries, tequila, and grenadine.

Cherries and tequila barrel-aging highlight this new iteration, an American wild/sour ale. The brewery touts this as their most tequila-forward release to date.

Sometimes you set off on a journey with a destination in mind, but you find what you were seeking many miles before.

Wild Heaven Civilization bottled

Wild Heaven Civilization bottles

Wild Heaven Civilization, the brewery’s barleywine, has been bottled for the first time.

The Avondale Estates, Georgia based brewery has had Civilization on tap intermittently for quite some time now. A barrel-aged edition (Height of Civilization) was one of the first big bottles the brewery released.

Wild Heaven Civilization is brewed with a crazy list of ingredients, including cherries, cranberries, dried Prussian lemons, Iranian hibiscus, and cocoa nibs.  Boozy barleywines, meet fun complexity.

We we asked Sarah Young, Wild Heaven’s Director of Sales what she thought of the new bottles, she told us – It’s f’ing good though, I forgot how yumz it is. 

Wild Heaven Civilization is a 12 ounce bottle and draft offering.

Hi-Wire Single Barrel Oak Fermented Tart Wild Ale

Hi-Wire Single Barrel Oak Fermented Tart Wild Ale is one of two beers debuting in the brewery’s new Single Barrel Series on April 1st.

The brewery’s South Slope location has become a wild and sour beer playground, now that the new production location is open just minutes away.

Hi-Wire Single Barrel Oak Fermented Tart Wild Ale is a wild ale brewed with cherries and raspberries, then aged in oak. The beer is a part of a dual bottle release, alongside Dark Saison.

Johnathan Parks, Head brewer of Hi-Wire’s specialty beer program, mentions that these initial releases will be different from what you’ll expect from the sour program in the future.

Hi-Wire Single Barrel Oak Fermented Tart Wild Ale is limited to 120, 750 mililiter bottles. Available solely at the South Slope tap room at 2pm on April 1st.

Rodenbach Alexander returning after 16 years

Rodenbach Alexander will be available to U.S. market in April, 2016.

Alexander is a blend: 2/3 is two-year foeder matured beer, and 1/3 young ale, with macerated sour cherries. The last time this sour was available in the states was in 2000.

“We were inspired to brew RODENBACH Alexander over two years ago, due in large part to the popular requests among beer connoisseurs, bar owners and beer lovers throughout the United States

Alexander is a part of a special 2016 draft and bottle sour program. The brewery alludes to more releases coming to this series later this year. Look for 750 milliliter bottles and draft starting in April.

The bottle features Alexander, one of the four Rodenbach brothers (Pedro, Alexander, Ferdinand and Constantijn) who founded the brewery in 1821.

Sierra Nevada introduces Ovila Mix Packs

Sierra Nevada Ovila Mix Packs

The Sierra Nevada monastic collaborative series, “Ovila” will soon have a mixed pack for it’s fans this month.

A collaboration with California based Abbey of New Clairvaux, Ovila Abbey Ales is a modern take on Belgian-style abbey ales. When possible, the beers feature ingredients grown and harvests on the monks’ 600 acre working farm.

Instead of releasing a bottle one at a time throughout 2016, the brewery is releasing all three in a mixed pack. Each box features three different 750 milliliter bottles of Ovila.  The styles include:

  • Ovila Quad with Cherries
  • Ovila Brown with Mandarin & Cocoa
  • Ovila Saison with Sage

The Sierra Nevada Ovila Mixed Pack is available across the United States while supplies last.

Angry Orchard The Old Fashioned debuts year-round

Angry Orchard The Old Fashioned

Angry Orchard The Old Fashioned has joined the cidery’s new Orchard’s Edge Series. A new series dedicated to creating an more complex cider flavor.

Angry Orchard The Old Fashioned is aged on charred oak bourbon barrel staves, with dried tart cherries and California grown navel orange peel. Apple varieties include Gala and Fuji.

The cider has a delicate citrus aroma with hints of vanilla and bourbon flavor from the wood aging process. The Old Fashioned has lasting tannins and a full, round mouthfeel.

Angry Orchard The Old Fashioned joins Knotty Pear in kicking off this new series. Each cider in the series is aged on oak, and will have not only apples in the recipe, but pears, and oranges. Additionally, each cider is aged on oak.

Hair of the Dog Cherry Adam

Hair of the Dog Cherry Adam has returned to the Portland, Oregon based taproom this week. This weekend, you can buy bottles to go once again.

Hair of the Dog Cherry Adam is the brewery’s Adam, an old ale, aged with Oregon black cherries. The beer is subsequently aged in both bourbon and sherry casks.

The fruit lends a sweet tartness to the finish, melding with the wood and adding a new dimension of complexity.

Hair of the Dog Cherry Adam is a limited draft and 12 ounce bottle offering.
