Carolina Bauernhaus Feral Barrel Raspberry debuts

Carolina Bauernhaus Feral Barrel Raspberry

Carolina Bauernhaus Feral Barrel Raspberry will be the third bottle release by the Anderson, South Carolina based brewery.

The base beer for Feral Barrel Raspberry is a dark wild ale, brewed with South Carolina region malts. It is initially aged for four months in sorghum rum barrels with native wild yeast from SouthYeast labs and two Brettanomyces strains.

For the past two months, Feral was aged on what the brewery calls a “massive” amount of red raspberries and tart cherries.

A dark wild ale featuring regional malts fermented and aged four months in sorghum rum barrels with a blend of native yeasts and brettanomyces. We added a massive amount of red raspberries and tart cherries and then aged for two more months. Jammy fruit notes are balanced by a rich malt forward body and a tart dry finish.

The brewery’s first bottle came in June – June Princess, followed shortly by Raspberry Petite Sour in July.

Carolina Bauernhaus Feral Barrel Raspberry will available in 750 milliliter bottles at the brewery on August 9th. Limited distribution to follow shortly after.

Style: American Wild Ale (w/ Cherries, Raspberries. Barrel Aged. Rum.)

Jester King Space Waves, a dream collab with Jolly Pumpkin

Jester King Space Waves

Jester King Space Waves, a new collaboration with Dexter, Michigan’s Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales, debuts this week.

Getting immediately down to business – the beer. Back in April, Jolly Pumpkin brewed a farmhouse ale brewed with Texas wheat and lime salt, that was ultimately blended with Jester King Montmorency vs. Balafon which was brewed with cherries.

The farmhouse ale features a large addition of hops in the boil in order to keep the bacteria and house mixed culture scaled back pending the 12 to 1 blend of Montmorency. The final blend was bottled on May 31st, and allowed to naturally re-ferment in bottles.

Jester King really dotes on this collaboration, as Jolly Pumpkin has been a strong influence on the Austin, Texas brewery since their inception.

Even appearing in the same sentence as Jolly Pumpkin, let alone collaborating with them, is a surreal experience for which we are extremely grateful. I’m not shy at all to say that Jolly Pumpkin is Jester King’s greatest influence. – Jeffery Stuffings, Founder

Jester King Space Waves is a 750ml bottle release on August 5th. Limited to 3,000 bottles with no distribution.

Style: American Wild Ale (w/ Lime Salt, Cherries. Partially Oak Aged.)
Availability: 750m Bottles.
Debut: 8/5/16

Unknown Brewing 2.5 features bourbon & fruit

Unknown Brewing 2.5

Unknown Brewing 2.5 (ish) is the second release in the Charlotte, North Carolina based brewery’s on going Anniversary Series.

Last year, brewery founder Brad Schell realized at one point that he had completely forgotten the brewery’s first birthday. (Owning a burgeoning brewery will do that.) If you know anything about Schell and well, the whole brewery’s less than normal mentality, then you’ll fully understand his next move. Throw a 1.5 ish birthday party. And… do it again next year.

Unknown Brewing 2.5 is hitting shelves in North Carolina. South Carolina, and Georgia. The beer is a blend of both a Belgian-style red ale, and a Belgian-style golden ale, aged in bourbon barrels with apricots, blackberries, and cherries. Truly a party in a bottle. Last years is pictured on the left in the image above.

Unknown Brewing 2.5 is a limited 22 ounce bottle offering.

Style: Belgian-Style Strong Ale (w/ Blackberries, Apricots, Cherries. Barrel Aged. Bourbon.)
Availability: 22oz Bottles, Draft. Limited.
Debut: June/July, 2016

Southern Tier Cherry Gose hits shelves

Southern Tier Cherry Gose

Southern Tier Cherry Gose is one of the latest releases from the Lakewood, New York based brewery.

The gose style hails from Germany. At least 50% of the base beer is brewed with wheat, plus adjuncts like salt and coriander. Most goes-style beers are around 4 to 5.5% alcohol by volume.

Southern Tier Cherry Gose incorporates tart cherry juice in an imperial edition of the style. The brewery’s home state of New York ranks 4th in the United States in tart cherry production. A unnamed grower near the brewery provided the cherry puree.

Cherry Gose is soured over the course of three days using Lactobacillus buchneri, a strain of souring bacteria.

Quantitatively, this beer is quite sweet, but we find that this level of residual sweetness is just enough to balance the acidity and that the overall perception of the beer is actually quite dry.

The beer will be available in 12 ounce bottles and draft as a limited release.

Style: Gose (w/ Pink Sea Salt, Cherry Juice
Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft.
Debut: Late June/July, 2016

Bourbon fans, meet Wicked Weed Old Fashioned

Wicked Weed Old Fashioned is hits distribution in limited quantities this week. A beer built for the fans of the cocktail.

Bourbon is the start in an Old Fashioned, muddled with sugar and bitters (and oranges and cherries). Wicked Weed Old Fashioned is a Kentucky bourbon barrel aged beer, brewed with oranges and cherries. (Redundant, yes. But you get the idea.)

From the first time we tasted it, we knew this needed to be made in our production facility.

Wicked Weed Old Fashioned is now available at the brewery in Asheville, North Carolina. Limited distribution starts this week.

Style: American Strong Ale (w/ Oranges, Cherries. Barrel-Aged. Bourbon.)
Availability: 12.7oz Bottles
