The Asheville, North Carolina based Hi-Wire Brewing’s specialty lineup has recently included stars like Pink Drink, 10W-40 Imperial Stout, and, Man Eater. A Beer Street Journal favorite from 2017 Hi-Wire Citra Gose is making a second appearance this month.
The tart gose is big on the tropical notes of Citra hops which fall on a background of sour tartness. Gose is a great beer, but throw in the aspects of Citra hops, and the real winner is your taste buds. This release is so bright you’ve got to wear shades. Every sip of this is a reminder that warm weather is coming.
Hi-Wire Citra Gose is available in 16-ounce cans and draft in limited quantities across the brewery’s distribution footprint.

The beer is so much like the “Helvetica List” t-shirts. You’ve seen them. They are usually white on black, with a list of four related cultural references and a lot of ampersands. (Ex. Me & You & Yo Momma & Yo Cousin Too, from OutKast.).
Asheville’s Hi-Wire already has some pretty sleek can designs – like Pink Drink & 10W-40. Whether or not the brewery was going for the “Helvetica List” idea, what they have done really makes for great new can design. Hi-Wire Hazy & Juicy & Hoppy & Fresh has debuted in Asheville, North Carolina.
The name describes this beer in full – hazy, juicy, and hoppy. Fresh is how you should be drinking it.

Hi-Wire Sour Pumpkin Ale is all over the flavor map. That’s a good thing. There’s a lot going on in this beer.
As fall creeps in, Asheville, North Carolina based Hi-Wire Brewing has released Sour Pumpkin Ale. Put the pumpkin spiced latte down because things are about to get a little weird.
After spending time wandering around local Rayburn Farm, Hi-Wire was struck with the idea of sourcing a beer from a single farm source. Sure, this is a pumpkin ale so you’re probably thinking something with pumpkins, cinnamon, and cloves. Make it taste like pie and ship it, right? Wrong.
Let’s talk pre-barrel. The base beer spent time in stainless steel tanks, with roasted delicata pumpkins, cinnamon basil, and blue ginger. Blue ginger is a Hawaiian variety known for its superior flavor. Cinnamon basil is also called Mexican spice basil. Methyl cinnamate found in the cultivar gives off flavors of the cinnamon spice when the leaves are crushed.
If this beer is already sounding unique, Hi-Wire isn’t done yet. After three months in stainless steel, the beer was split into rum, whiskey, and red wine barrels for six months, then blended back again. There’s nothing “basic” about this creation.
At this point, it is downright impossible to use something as simple as “pie” to describe Hi-Wire Sour Pumpkin Ale. It just doesn’t fit. Sour Pumpkin is aggressively sour as you dive in, melding into a light wash of ginger and cinnamon. As the beer warms, the blend of barrels are fighting for palate domination. Honestly, we think the rum won. This is no simple wild ale, with typical flavors. Everything about this beer is unpredictable in the best of ways. Speaking in the spirit of Hi-Wire’s hometown of Asheville, “Keep Fall Weird.”
Hi-Wire Sour Pumpkin Ale is a limited, 375-milliliter bottle release. Not for the faint of heart (or palate).

Asheville, North Carolina’s Hi-Wire Brewing its expanding their Georgia coverage with the addition of Atlanta. The brewery is distributing through Georgia Crown.
Hi-Wire has already been shipping their lineup to Athens, Augusta and Savannah. As the heat rolls in, Hi-Wire has decided it’s time to head for the ATL.

Hi-Wire Blackberry Sour joins the Asheville, North Carolina based brewery’s sour & wild lineup on April 1st.
18 months of fermentation were required to make Hi-wire Blackberry Sour, a blend of stainless steel, rye whiskey, red wine and North Carolina rum barrel ales.
Think blackberry jam, brett, and oak in this balanced and drinkable ale.
Hi-Wire Blackberry Sour can be purchased in 750ml bottles on Saturday, April 1st at the brewery’s South Slope location.

Expect this one to pour like motor oil. Meet Hi-Wire 10W-40 Imperial Stout.
This decadent imperial stout is brewed with fresh vanilla beans, dark chocolate from Asheville local French Broad Chocolates, and Organic Dynamite Roasting Company coffee beans. The sum of the parts means one big decadent way to drink your dessert.
The beer truly delivers on flavor. Coffee, chocolate and vanilla in a big stout is heaven to us, but what we can’t get over is the branding. Sure it would be easy to find some creature from Greek mythology, or an obscure Shakespearian phrase, combine with some comic book art, and launch the beer. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. In this case, when we say this beer pours like motor oil, we have a can that follows suit. This release is just the start of something new for Hi-Wire Brewing.
…coffee accentuates the cocoa and adds slight roast to balance out the vanilla in this dessert beer.
