Peak Brewing Adds New Beers, Bombers

Peak Organic Brewing Company’s first bomber bottles just arrived.  Only one other time has the brewery released a large format bottle, years ago for a special release.  There are 2 offerings – King Crimson & Hop Noir.  Weiss Principal is slated for the 3rd release in 22’s.

King Crimson – Imperial Red Ale, 9%.  First released 3 years ago for a few select New England beer fests, the popularity was instant.  Last year found a wider release of Crimson to more tap handles.  This year, the brewery even made more & for the first time bottled it.

King Crimson is an Imperial Red Ale that delivers a royal bounty of luscious, fruity American hops on top of a sturdy, deep red malt backbone. This beer is lavishly dry-hopped with Simcoe, adding a citrusy and piney flavor and aroma to the toasty, sweet malt notes. This special treat is a very limited release, so enjoy it while you can!

Hop Noir – American Black Ale (Black IPA), 8.2%.  Peak’s first “black IPA.” A big roasty malt profile, big on hops.

Hop Noir is a delectable Black IPA, dripping with piney, aromatic Centennial hops. The malt base is dark and rich, anchored by organic black malt. This provides a strong foundation for the extravagant kettle hopping and dry-hopping that this beer experiences. Enjoy with a night-light.

Availability: 22oz bombers. Draft. Both limited.

100% organic hops & malts

Sunday Sales Opponent: Jerry Luguire

Dissecting the opposition to the Sunday sales bill in Georgia requires talking about this individual – Jerry Luguire.  Luguire is the president of Georgia’s Christian Coalition, backed by the Georgia Baptist Convention.  He leads the charge against the passage of Sunday sales in Georgia.

Jerry Luguire is 72 year old resident of Columbus, Georgia.  He gave up drinking 31 years ago.  Some of his quotes on the matter:

“There ought to be at least 1 day a week that Georgians are not allowed to buy alcohol”

Judging by his replies to those who oppose him, reeks of arrogance.  Taking a quote from Neil Boortz’s blog, an individual posted a comment:

“Your branch has been very vocal in using the legislative power of government to keep an antiquated rule in place which forbids the sale of alcohol in stores. As a Christian, I find this very offensive, and I don’t believe that we should force our principles or beliefs upon anyone. I can only imagine what all of my non-Christian friends think as they watch your branch try to force this law upon the citizens of Georgia. I’d like someone to respond to me to let me know exactly why this is such an important issue to your organization, and why you feel the need to support such an action.”

His reply:

“Maybe you should find some Christian friends.”

As a Christian person myself, I find that offensive.  Regardless, his pressure on Georgia lawmakers seems to be paying off.

His contact info – [email protected].  Writing to him won’t change his mind, but will most likely get a snide, arrogant response.

Victory’s 15th Anniversary Kick Off

Starting February 15th, Victory Brewing celebrates their 15th years of craft brewing.  They call their home Downingtown, Pennsylvania – a small northern suburb of Philadelphia full of really freaking nice people.  (With access to fresh really freaking great beer.)

Victory mentioned today how grateful they are for the people they have supported over the years, and the ‘”characters” that have made their success possible – i.e. HopDevil, Golden Monkey, St. Victorious.  On Feb 15, “Fifteen Years of Characters” a movie dedicated to the last 15 years of beer & brewing at Victory debuts at the brewery.  It serves as a nationwide kickoff to their nationwide celebration of the big 15.

Via Victory Beer Blog:

Emerging from true obscurity in a truly obscure location, we’ve had 15 years (almost) to demonstrate our character here at Victory. Early on we debuted the brazen beast known as HopDevil. This menacingly delicious little ruffian assaulted folks’ sensibilities with a heady, citrusy hop bite tempered with a comforting resolution of rich, German malts and served notice that east coast IPAs had arrived with style. Against the pleas of our few wholesalers in 1997, who correctly recognized that pilsners were misunderstood and generally lame at the time in the US, we stubbornly rolled a new era pils, Prima, and have gained fans and acclaim steadily since with this appealing, crisp quencher. At 10 years we introduced a strong altbier, bright with brassy, German hops that was a deliciously round peg that defied any convenient square hole with our Ten Years Alt.

But innovation needs an appreciative audience and therefore none of these beers could have achieved their destiny, to be loved, if it were not for the characters consuming these exciting brews. We are talking about you. You are one of our characters, a player in this story of craft brewing risk and reward.

So, mindful that our family includes you as much as the characters we’ve developed in HopDevil, Golden Monkey, St. Victorious, etc. we look to celebrate our ’15 Years Of Character’ with all of those who have contributed greatly to the success of Victory.

Starting on February 15, our fifteenth anniversary, we’ll kick off a year of events nationwide, that celebrate our past 15 years together. Join us at Victory on Feb. 15 to witness the first screening of ‘Fifteen Years Of Character(s)’ our video homage to the fans of Victory. Hear the Victory stories of fans and friends like Greg Koch of Stone Brewing and Sam Calagione of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery in this video. That night we’ll pepper our hot, new February menu with some favorite menu items from the past 15 years of Victory, demonstrating the deliciously creative ways that our staff has captured your imagination.

You’ll find Brewmasters Bill & Ron here that evening as well, signing commemorative posters and celebrating your contribution to Victory’s success. Regarding our 15th year, Ron commented, “Nice, six more years before I can enjoy a Victory beer!” To which, Bill added, “Excellent, we can act like we’re 15 for a solid year now!

Brick Store’s New “Up” Cellar

Brick Store Pub’s already boasts being one of the best beer bars on the planet.  If you have stepped foot in the pub, you know.  BSP’s cellar however, is stuff of legend.   It lies underneath the pub in an old bank vault.  It’s not open to the public, so you have to be invited down to view it in all it’s glory.  Until now.

The owners of Brick Store Pub have done some renovations to the the small room upstairs across from the Belgian Bar.  They have turned it into a temperature controlled cellar, and filled it will years of beers they have hoarded away for years.  Dave Blanchard (Co-owner) writes:

I am so pleased to announce the new addition to the Brick Store Pub- The Up Cellar. “Upstairs to the Right” is where we have created space to house the more than 500 rare and vintage ales which will be available to pub patrons come Wednesday the 17th (If all goes well which I anticipate it will). As many of you know, we have been hoarding away many many goodies over the past 5 years and we’ve FINALLY come to the point when we are cutting them loose! I will be there all day and night wednesday to give tours and celebrate what will certainly be the next frontier at BSP.

The new cellar debuts 11/17/10.  See you at the Pub!
