AB InBev formalizes SABMiller, sells off MillerCoors

Anheuser Busch InBev has formalized their acquisition deal for UK based SABMiller, for $107 billon dollars (USD). Theres’s a twist to this story, however.

The word monopoly has been thrown around when discussing this acquisition. In order to appease regulators, AB InBev is selling SABMiller’s 58% stake in MillerCoors to MolsonCoors. That deal is worth $12 billion in cash. Essentially, those brands will be competing against the beer giant in the United States.

Had AB InBev acquired MillerCoors in the deal, collectively, the company would have controlled nearly 70% of U.S. beer market.

Before the partial stake selloff, AB InBev would have control around 30% of the world’s beer production and sales. That number now is slightly lower (still calculating after the stake-sell off).

There’s a Fallout Beer made by Carlsberg

Fallout 4 hit shelves at midnight (we were there, then up all night, naturally). Despite sleep deprivation, Fallout has a beer. At least in the United Kingdom.

The game’s producer Bethesda recently partnered with Carlsberg to great Fallout Beer to follow with the game’s tone. In this case, it’s a nuclear explosion, with the tagline – Inspired by Vault Tie Industries.

The beer is a pilsner that is just 4% ABV, so you can keep your gaming sessions going. The flavor is hoppy, with a floral aroma.

Fallout Beer is only available in the UK, and available in Amazon (for UK customers).

As for the U.S. folks, there is a Fallout inspired soda that apparently is available starting today. Nuke-Cola Quantum, which takes inspiration from Fallout 3. Looks like that won’t be an easy get either, as folks have accused Target employees of buying cases to put on eBay.

The Bruery Fourthmeal, a collaboration with Maine Beer Company

The Bruery Fourthmeal, a collaboration with Maine Beer Company is being bottled today. The Freeport, Maine based brewery recently traveled to Placentia, California for a brew day.

The Forthmeal name is a little homage to some of Maine Beer Company’s most popular offerings, Lunch and Dinner. The beer is a hoppy, Belgian-style ale, that combines flavor elements that both breweries are known for – Maine Beer Co.:Hoppy, The Bruery: Belgian influenced.

The Bruery and Maine Beer Company got together and cooked up something special for you: fourthmeal. It isn’t brunch; it isn’t “dinner.” It’s a hoppy Belgian-style ale that brings aspects of both breweries to the table: fruity, Belgian yeast esters, a crisp, ready backbone, citrus and piney hop characteristics, and a dry, hop-forward finish. There’s no-one shouting “come n’ git it” when it’s time to dine – just mouthwatering, dry-hopped aromatics, signally that it’s time for fourthmeal.

Per The Bruery, the collaboration will be “hoppy” with limited distribution through their network. Release details to follow.

Stone Brewing Co. & Sierra Nevada team up with a hoppy result

Stone Brewing Co. and Sierra Nevada have teamed up, and the result will be in glass and bottles very soon. This is NXS IPA.

What it is.

Stone/Sierra Nevada NXS IPA is a blend of fresh hop IPAs, aged in used spirits barrels. Sierra Nevada founder Ken Grossman, and Stone brewmaster Mitch Steel split the collaboration right down this middle. 50% of the beer was aged in rye whiskey barrels, while 50% was aged in gin barrels. Finally, the resulting beer was blended with fresh IPA, resulting in something truly hoppy… and special.

This special-edition beer conveys the true character of collaboration with touches of inventiveness and creativity. Two batches of an IPA were brewed and expertly blended to craft this multilayered beer. The first batch was split down the middle, with 50% being aged in gin-infused bourbon barrels and the remaining half aged in rye whiskey barrels.

Sierra Nevada Stone NXS is available in 22 ounce bottles as of December 1st, 2015.

Style: Imperial IPA (Barrel Aged. Rye Whiskey. Gin.)
Hops: Magnum,Amarillo, Chinook, Cascade, Centennial & Mosaic
