The Bruery drops a new lager nationally – Ruekeller Helles

The Bruery Ruekeller Helles

The Bruery, nestled in Orange County, California, is known for a pretty wide range of styles from massive imperial and pastry stouts to saisons and wild ales. Even though the brewery said they were never going to stray into the American IPA world, they created their own opportunity to get hoppy and hazy (with a technical loophole) with the formulation of Offshoot Beer Co. Even with this proven versatility, The Bruery is releasing something a little more… refined this month – Ruekeller Helles Lager.

A “world-class” lager was the goal when the brew team set to work on Ruekeller’s creation nearly a year ago. Lagers are some of the most complicated beers to brew, and The Bruery took no shortcuts in this already highly touted release. The Helles is an all-German malt and hops recipe in keeping with style tradition. The final test batches released the taproom have received high marks on the beer rating app Untappd.

Much like The Bruery’s own name, “Ruekeller” is a play on brewery founder Patrick Rue’s name and Ruhkeller or “rest cellar,” where German lager beers are krausened.

The Bruery Ruekeller Helles will be available in full distribution in 16-ounce cans start in late January.

Style: Helles Lager
Hops: Magnum, Saaz
Malts: Pilsner

Availability: 16oz Cans, Draft.
Debut: Late January 2019

5.2% ABV

The Bruery Black Tuesday will be available in cans for the 1st time this month

The Bruery Black Tuesday Cans

Easily one of the recognized barrel-aged imperial stouts in the industry turns 10 this month – The Bruery Black Tuesday. When quantities of this beast of a beer allow, the general public has a chance to take purchase it on one single day a year. That day? October 29th.

The Bruery calls this stout “The Beer from Hell.” If you ask a brewer, they will say because it’s a difficult beer to make. If you ask a drinker, they will say it’s huge, boozy, and extremely bold. Regardless of why, on thing is certain – Black Tuesday Imperial Stout is in a class by itself.

Black Tuesday is aged over a year in bourbon barrels, just waiting to fully envelop palates with flavor and crush skulls with it’s nearly 20% alcohol by volume. Bold doesn’t even begin to describe this beer. The brewery’s descriptors of dark chocolate, vanilla, caramel, and oak are spot on – we’d like to include chewy, smoky, sweet, and dare we say – elegant. Sip slowly or it will wreck your week. Sharing is encouraged.

New for 2019 are Black Tuesday in 16-ounce cans. You may have noticed The Bruery slowly turning some of their imperial and pastry stouts over to aluminum, not long after lauching their India pale ale brewing subset, Offshoot Beer Company.

Black Forest Cake inspired: The Bruery Geburtstagskranz

The Bruery Geburtstagskranz

German chocolate cake in a can? This is it. The Bruery Geburtstagskranz 2019 is now available.

It’s no secret that The Bruery loves big flavorful beers, and this oddly named release is no different. If our German is even close to correct, Geburtstagskranz means “birthday wreath”. The wreath is typically a decorated wooden circle where candles are lit instead of putting them on the birthday cake.

While that tradition is typically for kids, this beer is definitely for adults. The base beer is an imperial stout, aged in bourbon barrels with vanilla, cacao nibs, and tart cherries. The Bruery describes this release as “rich, with notes of sweet vanilla, chocolate, and tart juicy cherries”.

The Bruery Geburtstagskranz 2019 is available in 16oz cans ($12) and 4-packs ($42) each. Limited release.

Style: Imperial Stout (w/ Vanilla Beans. Cacao Nibs. Tart Cherries. Barrel Aged. Bourbon.)
Availability: 16oz Cans. Limited Release.
Debut: Early May 2019

9.5% ABV

“A massive imperial stout” pretty much sums up this release, which was initially brewed with California-based Portola Coffee Chicago. Incidentally, for the Cali release, The Bruery used Chicago coffee, from Tugboat Coffee.
