Dogfish Head Dragons & YumYums, a collaboration with The Flaming Lips debuts

Dogfish Head Dragons & YumYums

Dogfish Head Dragons & YumYums, a collaboration with the band The Flaming Lips, has arrived.

Delaware based Dogfish Head is no stranger to musical collaborations. Previous releases include Bitches Brew inspired by Miles Davis, American Beauty with the Grateful Dead, and Beer Thousand with Guided By Voices. (Don’t forget the collaboration with Pearl Jam, Deltron 3030 as well.) The newest musically inspired creation by the folks in The First State is Dogfish Head Dragons & YumYums – a liquid tribute to The Flaming Lips.

Most everyone knows The Lips thanks to their 1993 hit, “She Don’t Use Jelly”. Their elaborate and over-the-top shows and known eccentricity makes partnering with the original “Off-Centered” folks at Dogfish Head.

Dragons & YumYums is billed as a “lip-smacking” tart pale ale brewed with dragonfruit, yumberry, passionfruit, pear juice and black carrot. This is no simple fruit ale. Per Dogfish Head “Us coming together to make, what might be, the world’s first vinyl record filled with pink colored beer… is somehow… perfect!!”

With a shared goal of making this collaboration an epic, sensory enveloping experience at the intersection of creative beer paired with creative music, both Dogfish and The Flaming Lips believe this is the first time a band has been so pivotal and deeply involved in the creation of the beer, the ingredients that were chosen, and the authoring of a song made specifically in tribute of the beer.

Expect Dogfish Head Dragons & YumYums will hit shelves ahead of Record Store Day 2018 – April 21st.

Style: Fruit Beer (w/ DragonfruitYumberry. Passionfruit, Pear Juice. Black Carrot.)
Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft.
Debut: April 2018

Odell Pryus & Prunus Pear & Peach Sour is coming to the sour & wild Cellar Series

Odell Pryus & Prunus

Odell Pryus & Prunus Pear & Peach Sour is destined for the brewery’s Cellar Series this year.

The Fort Collins, Colorado based brewery is home to releases like Zard-Alu Sour Apricot Ale, Pina Agria, and most recently Dark Theory. The brewery’s love of fruits will be expressed once again with Odell Pryus & Prunus Pear & Peach Sour.

The base beer is a sour golden ale, brewed with hefty additions of fresh pears and peach puree, resulting in a bright, tart beer.

Pryus & Prunus is an oak aged sour golden ale brewed with heavy additions of pear and peach puree resulting in a full bodied, pleasantly effervescent, refreshingly tart ale. The two fruits work in harmony, as aromas of peach pie and fresh pear swirl from the glass. The tart complexity of the sour blonde marries with rip fruit flavors that burst forth with every sip. Enjoy.

Like previous series releases, Odell Pryus & Prunus Pear & Peach Sour will have limited availability in 750 milliliter bottles, and draft.

Style: American Wild Ale (w/ Peaches. Pears. Oak Aged.)
Availability: 750ml Bottles, Draft.
Debut: TBA

Wild Heaven Emmylou, the first in a new sour series

Wild Heaven Emmylou

Wild Heaven Emmylou, the first in the Georgia based brewery’s fruited sour series, debuts today.

Eric Johnson (brewmaster) laid the groundwork for Wild Heaven Emmylou almost two years ago, when he started souring a base golden ale in oak barrels. The oldest barrels are 18 months old.

Five different Bordeaux barrels containing kumquats, D’Anjou pears, cantaloupe, gooseberry and Asian persimmon comprise the final blend for Sour No. 1.

The result is a game-changing sour for Wild Heaven. The sour/wild ale is impressively complex, with light notes of the unique fruits on which Emmylou has been aging, finishing with a beautiful flavor of the barrels.

Wild Heavy Emmylou is available in 500 milliliter bottles at the brewery on October 15th, with limited distribution to follow this week. Expect more fruited sours to follow in the coming months.

Style: American Wild/Sour Ale (w/ D’Anjou Pears, Cantaloupe, Gooseberries, Asian Persimmon, Kumquats)
Availability: 500ml Bottles
Debut: 10/15/16

Wild Heaven White Blackbird Canning, Oct 20th

Wild Heaven White Blackbird Cans

Wild Heaven White Blackbird, the brewery’s saison, will be the 2nd can in their canning history on October 20th.

A little on Wild Heaven White Blackbird. If I’ve said it once, I’ll said it 1,000 times, it won’t be, and isn’t just a saison. This beer (that has never seen anything besides draft) uses pink peppercorns, Korean pears marinated in Chardonnay (oh, we aren’t done) aged on French oak.

Our Belgian Saison is brewed with generous amounts of pink peppercorns to accentuate the herbal, earthy, spicy notes of this amazing yeast. Korean pears marinated in Chardonnay are added to fermentation along with French oak. The result is a host of savory flavors melding together into a wonderful new spin on a well-known style. Finishes dry with woody earthy hints and elegantly well rounded fruit and spice notes.

Wild Heaven White Blackbird is already a draft offering, and will be a 12 ounce can offering, thanks to Toucan Mobile Canning. In your hands by November 1.

Style: Saison (w/ Pink Peppercorns, Pears. Wine Oak Aged.)
Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft. Year-round offering.
Release (Cans): November, 2015
