Mother Earth Big Mother Triple IPA celebrates 11 years

Mother Earth Big Mother Triple IPA

Mother Earth Big Mother Triple IPA has been the brewery’s anniversary ale since the beginning. It’s back for a limited time.

Big Mother’s recipe is a little different every year, but always has a theme – not too boozy, massively hopped. As far as the 2021 edition is concerned: “A whirlpool and dry hop assault lends aromas and flavors of apricot, navel oranges, red grapefruit, and papaya.”

Mothe Earth Big Mother Triple IPA is available in May and June, celebrating the brewery’s 11th Anniversary in 16-ounce cans and draft.

Style: Imperial IPA
Availability: 16oz Cans, Draft. Limited Release.
Latest Return: May 2021

10.5% ABV

Monday Night Don’t Call It Hotlanta. Maybe, needs some Gas-lanta

Monday Night Don't Call It Hotlanta can

Monday Night Don’t Call It Hotlanta returns mid-May.

In 2018, the Atlanta-based brewery’s Black Tie Series became home to this quadruple dry-hopped imperial India pale ale, brewed with Columbus, Citra, and Galaxy hops. According to the brewery, it’s a “bridge collapsing” 8.5% alcohol by volume. Don’t know what that means by bridge collapsing in Atlanta? Google it. It was truly a shitshow.

With the unpredictability of Atlanta’s spring weather, this cloudy double IPA pops with sunny tropical notes on the nose. It drinks dank and finishes with a bit of bitterness, much like an Atlanta sports fan.

Monday Night Don’t Call It Hotlanta is available in 16-ounce cans and draft.

Drink it in good health… and don’t call it  “Hotlanta”.

Style: Imperial IPA
Hops: Citra, Galaxy, Columbus
Malts: Pilsner, 2-Row, Flaked Oats

Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft.
Debut: 4/29/18
Latest Return: Mid-May, 2021

8.5% ABV

From meme to beer: Scofflaw Karen From Next Door IPA

Scofflaw Karen From Next Door

What was one of my worst regrets from 2020? Joining the Nextdoor app. Sure, it seemed like a good idea for safety awareness. But then you read it. The stream of self-entitled complaints, and the constant stream of self-righteous posts. It started as “Can I speak to your manager” haircut and memes, and  ultimately becoming “Karen.” You can probably chalk this phenomenon up to a Dane Cook stand-up bit from years ago.

Nextdoor is full of Karens, as Scofflaw Brewing found out the hard way when your brewery is next to a neighborhood. Honoring that love/hate/can’t stop reading the comments relationship is Scofflaw Karen From Next Door IPA.

There have never been more Karens our lives…so in honor of Mother’s Day, and for moms protecting their children from vicious servers everywhere, we tip our hats to you, Karen.

The hazy India pale ale speaks for itself, or to the manager directly. To our calculations, “Karen” has been released at least twice by the brewery in the past year, selling out fast each time.

If you missed it last time, Karen From Next Door IPA is back stirring up shit at the brewery. No mute button needed.

Style: IPA
Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft. Brewery only
Latest Return: 5/6/21

6% ABV

Creature Comforts Automatic Pale promoted to year-round

Creature Comforts Automatic Pale 2019

Creature Comforts Automatic Pale Ale has been bumped up to year-round status as of this month.

Automatic’ is a hop-forward pale ale, brewed with Mosaic and Crystal hops. If you love that “dank” hop smell and flavor, you will love this beer. Automatic is pale ale on steroids.

“Automatic is meant to be light, refreshing and quite drinkable without falling into the common pitfall of ending up too thin, watery or insipid. No color malts were used, however, the relatively full mouthfeel is enough to support this heavily hopped beer,” said Co-Founder and Brewmaster Adam Beauchamp.”

Local Athens artist Michelle Fontaine created the label for Creature Comforts Automatic Pale Ale. Fontaine took inspiration from 1950’s pop culture as well as the 1940’s Chevy dealership that once occupied the brewery’s building.

You might recognize the phrase “Automatic for the People” emblazoned on the can, especially if you are a REM fan. The album name was derived from legendary Athens, Georgia eatery, Weaver D’s. The southern, soul food eatery is a city staple.

Creature Comforts Automatic Pale Ale is already available on draft at the brewery in Athens.

Style: Pale Ale
Hops: Mosaic, Crystal

Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft. Year-round.

5.2% ABV

“PB & J in a glass” Catawba Peanut Butter Jelly Time returns with new variants

Catawba Peanut Butter Jelly Time WM

Catawba Peanut Butter Jelly Time is like drinking a piece of your childhood. If you haven’t tried this beer, another opportunity is rolling around this week.

Brewed with raspberries and aged on peanuts, this beer takes you back to a simpler time. A time before bills, complicated relationships, acne breakouts, and hangovers. As anyone that has made a PB&J sandwich, the ratio of peanut butter to jelly is paramount. Catawba knows this too and it shows in this alcoholic sandwich of a beer.

Does it really taste like the sandwich? Pretty much. Brewing with peanut butter and a jelly sugar blob isn’t the greatest of ideas. To get around serving up a greasy glass of nasty, Catawba created a base roasty brown ale, aged for weeks on fresh raspberries and peanuts. When this beer is colder, it tastes like peanut butter. Warmer, more sticky jelly notes to surface. Because Peanut Butter Jelly Time is a brown ale instead of a stout, it’s more approachable to those that might be turned off by dark beer. It should be served in a lunchbox between math class and recess.

Last year, the brewery canned a variant – Strawberry Rhubarb which returns again this year in cans only to be found in the taproom.

New for 2020, are two new additional brewery only variants – PBJT! Peach and PBJT! Red Currant.

Catawba Peanut Butter Jelly Time! is available in 16-ounce cans in the taproom starting March 6th, available in Catawbas’s five-state distribution area in the following days.

Style: Brown Ale (w/ Raspberries, Peanuts)
Hops: Magnum, Fuggle
Availability: 16oz Cans, Draft.
Latest Return: March 2020

5.75% ABV
