Clown Shoes Miracle IPA Saves Puppies (And Other Good Things)

Clown Shoes Miracle IPAOk, more than just puppies.  A percentage of the sales of Clown Shoes Brewing’s new Miracle IPA will benefit the Minor Miracle Fund.  The fund will go to support worthy causes over time.  Miracle Mike (mentioned on the label) is a real person – Mike Pettengill, one of the brewery’s delivery drivers.   He is having a costume designed for him to wear at events/festivities/fundraisers.  Best answer to why he is the one on the beer label?  Per Mike: “Because I’m f&#king awesome.”  Save the world Mike.  Save the world.

Our boy, Miracle Mike, represents the good we hope to do with the Clown Shoes Minor Miracle Fund.  A percentage of profits from this juicy, sessionable IPA will be used to help real people (and maybe a puppy or two.)

North Coast Otsuchi Ale Releases In March

North Coast Brewing releases Otsuchi Old Stock Ale this month.  The beer benefits the Otsuchi Recovery Fund, after a devastating tsunami destroyed the town.

2011 marks the 10th anniversary of the sister city relationship between Fort Bragg, California and Otsuchi, Japan.  When the recent tsunami struck northern Japan, Otuchi was one of the hardest hit communities and this charming 800-year old city was leveled with an unimaginable loss of life and property.

CBS recently devoted a 60 minutes episode to the Otsuchi disaster and interviewed Ken Sasaki, catayst for the sister city program.  Sasaki made it clear how important the Fort Bragg sister city relationship has been in helping to give Otsuchi the encouragement to rebuild and to maintain their “Never give up” attitude.

The people of Fort Bragg have sent over $250,000 to help, but more importantly, they sent their love.  As a continuation of this support, North Coast Brewing makes a donation to the Otsuchi Recovery Fund for every bottle of Otsuchi Old Stock Ale sold.  North Coast Brewing invites you to enjoy this bottle with friends & celebrate the recovery of Otsuchi.

Style: Old Ale
Availability: 750ml (of this edition)
Arrival: Anniversary of the tsunami, 3/11/12

Founding Fathers Beer Supports Military Families

Founding Fathers LightFounding Fathers Brewing just released Founding Father Light Beer this week.  The second installment in a line of beers from the Minnesota based brewery.  50% of the profits are donated the family of the United States Military.

LONG LAKE, Minn., Feb. 14, 2012 – Founding Fathers Products, a local company that will donate 50 percent of its profits to support military troops and their families, has released Founding Fathers Light Beer in Minnesota and North Dakota.

Founding Fathers Lager, which is brewed in the Unites States, hit the shelves in November and quickly sold its first run of 7,500 cases. Both beers are now available in bottles of six or 12 packs.

“We have been very encouraged by how well Founding Fathers Lager sold in our first run and are excited to add the light beer to our product line,” said Phil Knutsen, founder and CEO. “The largest breweries in the Unites States are now foreign-owned, and Founding Fathers is not only owned and brewed in America – half of our profits will go to those serving in our armed forces and their families.”

In addition to adding the light formula, Founding Fathers is planning to expand its distribution to Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee by April.

Founding Fathers is partnering with local military organizations in each state as it launches its beer across the country. In Minnesota, profits will be administered through non-profit organizations Tee it up for the Troops and the Minnesota Military Family Foundation. Nationally, beer profits will be donated to the Armed Forces Relief Trust.

Founding Fathers was established in 2009 by Knutsen and a team of investors who believe retail shelves need more American-made products that serve an important cause.

“While we are starting with beer, the sky’s the limit on what we can accomplish with Founding Fathers Products,” Knutsen said. “We’re very excited about expanding our business model to include additional products and we’re passionate about raising money for our troops.

North Coast Old Stock Otsuchi 2012

A slightly different edition of North Coast Brewing’s  Old Stock – Old Stock Otsuchi 2012.  100% of the funds benefit Otsuchi Tsunami relief efforts.  If you follow the QR code, it takes you to a webpage asking for donations to the relief fund, based in Fort Bragg, California (where the brewery is based.)  As it turns out, the Fort Bragg and Otsuchi have some history:

2011 marks the 10th anniversary of the sister city relationship between Fort Bragg and Otsuchi. The story of the program’s creation is compelling. When Ken Sasaki was a boy in Otsuchi, his father, a fisherman was lost at sea. Ken-san would sit on the bluffs overlooking the ocean, ever in search of any sign of his father. When he became older, he wondered what was on the other side of the ocean- wondering who lived over there and what were they like? He drew a line across the Pacific and found Fort Bragg on the exact same latitude. In 1997, he made contact and invited then Mayor, Lindy Peters to come visit Otsuchi.

In 2001, days after the tragic events of 9/11 that Lindy made his second trip to Otsuchi. The following year, September, 2002, the first student exchange of Fort Bragg students went to Otsuchi. Subsequent exchanges took place in 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2010. In 2005 a Sister-City Proclamation was solidified by then Mayor, Dave Turner and Mayor Yamazaki.

Though the focus of our exchange program will be changing and evolving due to the devastation Otsuchi has sustained, our community will continue to stand by our beloved sister city, Otsuchi, Japan.

If you check out the video below taken in October of last year, Otsuchi was hit pretty hard.  This edition of Old Stock (no word if ingredients are different) will be available in a larger format bottle (750mls.) There is more info to come on Old Stock Otsuchi for sure.

New Belgium’s Clips Of Faith Raises $59,000

New Belgium Clips Of FaithThis press releases says it all..

New Belgium’s Second Annual Clips of Faith Beer & Film Tour
Raised Nearly $59,000 for Nonprofits Around the Country

11,000 Attendees Gathered for Outdoor Films and Beer Tastings

Ft. Collins, CO, November 7, 2011 —Clips of Faith, New Belgium Brewing’s traveling philanthropic beer and film festival, recently wrapped up a record-shattering(!) 18-city tour. The second-year festival outperformed last year, bringing out 11,000 people in cities across the U.S. for amateur short films,
New Belgium’s esoteric Lips of Faith beers (http://www.newbelgium.com/beer) and food from local vendors. In total, Clips of Faith raised almost $59,000 for local non-profits (see how your city did below). Over its two-year run, Clips of Faith has raised approximately $91,000.

At each Clips of Faith stop, all proceeds from beer sales benefitted local, sustainably focused nonprofit partners. Attendees help support local organizations while sampling hard-to-find New Belgium beers beneath the stars. Eighteen of the best Clips of Faith short film entries screen at every show. In addition, each event had a zero waste component, diverting, on average, 91 percent of the waste from landfills and encouraging alternative transportation.

“There is something extraordinary about bringing out a community to support the arts and their local nonprofit organizations,” said Christie Catania, Clips of Faith Manager-at-Large.  “Watching inspired short films and sipping beer under the stars is a great way to spend a summer evening.  This tour grew exponentially from last year, showing that people enjoy the concept as much as we do.”

The creative team at New Belgium Brewing reviewed and selected the films that went on tour and picked three filmmakers to visit New Belgium for the Ft. Collins screening. Those honorees were “Bottles” by Colorado resident Geoff Maddaford; “Tiny Day in Jackson Hole Backcountry” by Wyoming’s Tristan Greszko; and “Assisted Migration” by Dusan Harminc of Wisconsin. Honorable Mentions were: “BLOB,” Trevor Hawkins, Missouri; “The Millionaires Club,” Sam Nuttmann, Washington; and “Ski and Chalk,” Chris Dickey, Wyoming.

If you are a filmmaker, or an aspiring filmmaker, and would like to be part of New Belgium’s 2012 Clips of Faith tour, entries are now being accepted at www.clipsoffaith.com. To take a look at some of the winning films from 2011, visit www.clipsoffaith.com.
