Introducing Harpoon Brewing’s 43rd session in their 100 Barrel Series: White IPA.

I wanted to brew a uniquely American beer that would maintain the signature characteristics of two distinct styles while forging a direction of its own. Simcoe, Cascade, and Citra hops give this beer the citrus and floral notes of an IPA. while the spiciness and soft mouthfccl are more reminiscient of a Belgian Wit. Harpoon’s Rich & Dan’s Rye IPA joined the 100 Barrel Series in 2011.  Drinkers loved it.  Due to how well it was received, Harpoon is promoting the beer to year round status.  Beginning in April, Rich & Dan’s returns in 12oz/6pks and draft.   Harpoon was founded in 1986 by Dan Kenary and Rich Doyle in Boston, Massachusetts.  Rich & Dan’s Rye IPA is brewed by the duo.  Heavy on rye malt, & balanced with bold hops, this IPA pleases.

Leviathan Great Scott pays homage to the great Wee Heavy Scottish Ales of the past.  This beer is a full-flavored, full-bodied dark ale with a complex malt character.  The hint of smokiness is a tribute to the peaked malts that were historically used in Scottish brewing.  Relax and enjoy with bagpipes playing in your head (kilt optional).

Harpoon’s Newest 100 Barrel Series Released – Black IPA

Harpoon Brewery’s 40th release in the 100 Barrel Series is a Black IPA brewed by Harpoon’s own Matt DeLuca.  It was brewed with a new specialty malt called Midnight Wheat and flaked barley creating an almost stout-like appearance.  I wanted this Black IPA to be a very hop-forward beer; having a huge, hoppy nose was important to me said Matt.  He used Chinook, Simcoe, Cascade, Citra, and Ahtanum hops in the 7% ABV brew.

Harpoon Releases Vermont Spruce Tip (VID) Video

Tis the season for Christmas trees, so why not drink a beer with spruce tips in it?  The next beer in Harpoon’s 100 Barrel Series – Spruce Tip Ale brewed using spruce tips harvested from Vermont’s Downer State Forest.

The spruce tips were used in the same way finishing hops are used – in the boil and the whirlpool.

Harpoon 100 Barrel Docesna

Dochesna will be #38 in Harpoon Brewing’s 100 Barrel Series.  This noble hop based beer follows Rich & Dan’s Rye IPA currently on shelves.  The name is derived from the hop harvest festival in the Czech Republic, taking place September 2-3, 2011.  Docesna will be using Sladek hops, a hybrid of Saaz hops.  Sladek is a bit more aggressive than pure Saaz hops.
