Harpoon Grateful Harvest Returns

Harpoon Brewery is proud to bring back Grateful Harvest Ale, a New England cranberry ale brewed in the Thanksgiving spirit of giving back to the community.  For every 6-pack of Grateful Ale sold, the Harpoon Brewery will make a $1 donation to the local food bank in the area in which the beer was purchased.

The cranberry flavor complements the malty character derived by the combination of Munich and Vienna malts. Additions of CaraMunich and Dehusked Carafa III malts enhances the beer’s reddish hue and adds a touch of sweetness, while Northern Brewer bittering hops complement the slight cranberry tartness.  A traditional top fermenting strain of ale yeast was used to showcase the malt profile and accent the fresh cranberry aroma.  The result is a medium-bodied, malty and mildly sweet amber ale with a bready aroma and a subtle cranberry flavor.

Style: Fruit Beer (w/ Cranberries)
Availability: 12oz bottles, Draft. Oct-Dec

5.8% ABV, 30 IBUs

Meet Dogfish Head’s New Ancient Ales Addition

DFH_Kvasir4

Dogfish Head’s (Milton, DE) most creative beer collection is by far the Ancient Ales Series. The brewers work with Dr. Patrick McGovern, a leading expert in ancient beverages to recreate some of the world’s oldest libations. The series started with Midas Touch, and more recently Birra Etrusca Bronze.

Meet this ancient newbie rising from history, Kvasir. Named for a Scandinavian princess, this grog-like base beer features ligonberry, cranberry, birch syrup, honey, cranberry juice and herbs.

She was a leather-clad priestess, a member of the upper class, and in the most northerly limits of Scandinavia, her tomb guarded a recipe for millennia. In her day, before grape wine arrived from the Neu East, alcoholic beverages were cocktails of sugar-rich ingredients like grain, fruit and honey. With help from biomolecular archaeologist Dr. Patrick McGovern and Swedish brewery Nynashamns Angbryggeri, we’ve unearthed the secrets of her tart, complex grog, and we’re sharing our modern interpretation with you.

Style: Herb/Spice Ale (Ligonberry, Cranberry, Birch Syrup, Honey, Cranberry juice)
Availability: 750 ml bottles, Draft
Arrival: TBA

New Belgium Pumpkick Arrives

pumpkick label_f

New Belgium Brewing (Fort Collins, CO) PUMPKICK, has arrived.

The newbie resembles a recent Lips of Faith release — Kick, a collaboration with Elysian Brewing. Kick was a slightly sour pumpkin beer brewed with cranberries, aged in oak. No oak aging or souring in PUMPKICK, but you can look forward to pumpkin juice, cranberries, and more. The flavor is quite complex, and the beer very easy drinking.

What’s that bite of tartness doing in a pumpkin beer? Adding the unexpected kick of cranberry juice to brighten this traditionally spiced seasonal ale. PUMPKICK is brewed with plenty of pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice, but its the cranberries and touch of lemongrass that send your tastebuds sailing.

Style: Pumpkin Beer (w/ Cranberry Juice, Cinnamon, Allspice, Nutmeg, Lemongrass)
Availability: 12oz bottles, Draft

6% ABV

A New Rodenbach Emerges

LR_ROD_CR_LABELFRONT_75_USA_V5

If you love lambics, wild ales, and sours, read further. Rodenbach – one of the world’s leading brewers of sour beers is bringing you a new one. Caractére Rouge (Red Character) features red fruits like cranberries, raspberries and sour cherries, aged in oak.

The exclusive RODENBACH Caractere Rouge, with an alcohol content of 7%, is the result of a 6-month maceration with fresh fruit (sour cherries, raspberries and cranberries) of a beer which matured in oak casks for 2 years. After its maceration, the beer is re-fermented in the bottle. Flavourwise this fruit beer has a rather sour taste, but of an exceptionally pure nature. Its light, residual sugars balance out the triangle of sour, sweet and dry flavours. This beer evokes the delicacy and experience of a fresh Burgundy wine.

Style: Flemish Red Ale (w/ Cranberries, Raspberries, Cherries. Oak Aged)
Availability: 750 ml bottles
Arrival: TBA

7% ABV
