Terrapin Himalayan Pink Sea Salt Lime Gose is on deck in Athens, Georgia.

The brewery already has a winner in the gose style – Watermelon Gose. The beer tastes like summer feels. Joining the brewery’s Side Project Series is  Terrrapin Himalayan Pink Sea Salt Lime Gose, another warm weather/tropically inspired beer.

The Gose is made with mineral-rich Himalayan Pink Sea Salt and has flavors of fresh squeezed Makrut Limes and subtle hints of Coriander. Quench your thirst as you meditate on our latest brew.

Side Project #29 is hitting shelves now – Chubby Bunny, a decadent s’mores inspired imperial milk stout. Also preceding this release will be Side Project #30, Blueberry Thyme Saison.

Terrapin ATL Brew Lab & a look at the Atlanta Braves new Suntrust Park

The city of Atlanta has a big baseball season ahead of them. In April, fans will pour into their brand new $652 million dollar Suntrust Field. The new home of the Braves is quite fancy.

Beer is as much of a national pastime is baseball, and a fixture in every park in America. Every ballpark has beer, but not every ballpark has a brewery. Athens based Terrapin Beer Co. has officially built their first Atlanta brewery as part of Suntrust Park.

Since expanding into a 100 barrel brew house a few years ago, Terrapin has been lacking pilot system. Most of their recipe development has come from home brewed test batches and even a PICO Brew home system. From there the recipes are upscaled and tweaked on the fly. A brewery that likes to get weird like the Terrapin Tribe, a pilot system has always needed to be in the cards. When the opportunity came to build it in a Major League Baseball field, the brewery couldn’t say no.

The Terrapin ATL Brew Lab boasts a copper jacketed 5 barrel brew house that will be supplying the thirsty park goers directly. Styles will fluctuate as the season dictates. Just as Terrapin has become ubiquitous with Georgia beer, the brewery has partnered with Atlanta famous Fox Brothers BBQ. The ATL Brew Lab will be open to the public year-round.

While many Atlanta Braves fans have been torn about moving on from Turner Field, they won’t be disappointed on opening day or this high-tech new home of the Braves, Suntrust Park. Especially with fresh beer brewed just feet from home plate.

Negan approved. Terrapin Lucille, a second Walking Dead collaboration is cracking heads

Terrapin Lucille

Athens, Georgia based Terrapin Beer Company made waves a while back with their zombie themed Walking Dead Bood Orange IPA. In February, it returned once again in cans for the first time. The brewery now has two zombie apocalypse inspired beers on shelves. The newest?  Terrapin Lucille.

If you follow the show, Terrapin Lucille is named for the evil fella wreaking havok on our beloved Rick Grimes and crew – Negan and his weapon of choice, Lucille. The barbed wire should be a dead give away. If you haven’t been watching, the show gets pretty brutal. (And bloody.)

This beer drinks like dessert, but doesn’t drink like the 9.4% alcohol by volume beer it actually is. Perhaps this “Lucille” will do a little damage to your head as well. The imperial stout is brewed with both molasses and vanilla, and aged on hickory, maple, and white ash. All the wood that makes baseball bats.

Molasses dominates this beer, but isn’t overpowering, heavy or syrupy. Expect hints of brown sugar, dark chocolate oak and a touch of smoke.

Terrapin Lucille is available now in 500 milliliter bottles for a limited time.

Style: Imperial Stout (w/ Blackstrap Molasses, Vanilla Beans. Oak Aged.)
Availability: 500ml Bottles
Debut: March, 2017

9.4% ABV

Zombies not included. Terrapin The Walking Dead Beer, now in cans

Terrapin The Walking Dead

Terrapin The Walking Dead Blood Orange IPA is headed back to shelves once again in February, 2017. This edition finds the hops a bit brighter, with more pronounced blood orange flavor. Pairs well with apocalyptic zombie carnage.

12 ounce cans and draft are shipping the week of Valentine’s Day, 2017.

Below, Beer Street Journal’s original coverage of the beer’s release in fall, 2015

Terrapin The Walking Dead is coming this fall, to help soothe the nerves as the zombie hoards approach. The tv show, The Walking Dead is filmed in Terrapin’s home of Georgia. In past episodes, local craft breweries have made screen appearances in the show.

To create Terrapin The Walking Dead, the brewery partnered with series creator Robert Kirkman, and Skybound Entertainment to create a beer fans will love.

Terrapin Beer Company and The Walking Dead have teamed up to brew the official beer of the undead. Made with blood orange peel, and a horrific amount of hops, this bloodthirsty red IPA will have you prepared for the upcoming Zombie Apocalypse.

Beer Street Journal isn’t about beer reviews. Hopefully this doesn’t read that way. Last night we tried the Terrapin The Walking Dead, ahead of the release. Those wondering, yes – there is a good bit of blood orange flavor, and a hoppy finish. That’s a given. Also, that’s all the beer is supposed to be.

Honestly, I feel there are going to be interpretations of this beer. Those who will probably hate it because it won’t live up to their impossibly high standards for beer. Ok, IPAs. Half the time it’s the same folks that never have anything good to say about anything beer related. (Most likely everything else as well.)

On the other side of the tracks, are those people excited that The Walking Dead has a beer, that’s not brewed by a mega brewery, and will buy it because for just that reason, and crack it open during the show. Simple as that.. The response to the article announcing this beer has been insane. Simple as that.

At the end of the day, it’s a crazy amazing show, awesome partnership, and tasty liquid. Have fun with it.

Terrapin The Walking Dead Blood Orange IPA will be available in cans for the first time in February, 2017.

Style: IPA (w/ Blood Orange)
Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft
Next Release: February, 2017

6.7% ABV

Coffee & beer fans, don’t miss the Terrapin Single Origin Coffee Brown Series

Terrapin Single Origin Coffee Brown Ale

Athens, Georgia based Terrapin Beer Company  has rebooted their Single Origin Coffee Series, a collaboration with coffee roaster Jittery Joes. Terrapin Single Origin Coffee Brown Ale is on shelves now.

In 2016, Terrapin launched the first Single Origin Coffee lineup. The brew team created a simple base stout that would show off the flavor of the coffee. Jittery Joe’s roasters is less than a mile from the brewery, who hand selected and roasted the beans.

For this round, Terrapin chose a brown ale to accentuate the flavors of thecoffee. The base brown ale has been specifically created with very muted hop flavor in order boost the new coffee varietals.

Coffee vs. Beer. Beer vs. Coffee.

The first round taught us a lot about coffee’s impact on the beer. The base beer recipe truly was perfect to show off the contrast in the coffee beans that Jittery Joe’s brought into the fold. This edition is no different. The four coffees featured are fantastic, and really pop thanks to the muted brown ale base. A real treat for the coffee snobs in your life. Our only suggestion – drink a bit closer to cellar temperature – 45-55 degrees for full flavor.

Terrapin Single Origin Coffee Brown Ale brings with it four different coffees:

  • Costa Rica Tarrazu – Milk Chocolate, Cherries
  • Ecuador Zamora-Chinchipe – Sweet, Citrus
  • Indonesia Bali-Kintamni – Dark Fruit, Black Pepper
  • Kenya Ndaroini – Marzipan, Slightly tart

Terrapin Single Origin Coffee Brown is available in 12 ounce bottles, in a mix 4-pack release (one of each bottle).

Style: Brown Ale (w/ Coffee.)
Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft.
Debut: January, 2017
