Boulevard Tasting Room Rosemary IPA joins Sample Twelve

Boulevard Tasting Room Rosemary IPA

Boulevard Tasting Room Rosemary IPA joins the brewery’s Tasting Room Series this fall.

As the name suggests, the Tasting Room Series got its start in Boulevard’s Kansas City, Missouri Tasting Room. A selection of test batches, one-offs and other experiments that could one day be a full production brew.

Some of the beers are so well received in the Tasting Room, they get a small promotion to the brewery’s Sample Twelve Mixed Pack, that does see distribution. This fall, Boulevard Tasting Room Rosemary IPA is a part of that pack.

Inspired by a beer from Cerveza Granizo tasted during a judging session in Chile, Boulevard Brewmaster Steven Pauwels became intrigued with the idea of using rosemary in a hop forward beer to explore the interaction between bright herbaceous/savory flavors and punchy/fruity hops.

You can taste the result yourself in the fall Sample Twelve Pack, that ships to all Boulevard markets. Boulevard Tasting Room Rosemary IPA is a 12 ounce bottle release, joined by a new Milk Stout in the box.

Style: IPA (w/ Rosemary)
Hops: Chinook, Simcoe, Citra, Cascade

Availability: 12oz Bottles, Mixed Pack only
Debut: August, 2016

Boulevard Tasting Room Milk Stout joins fall pack

Boulevard Tasting Room Milk Stout

Boulevard Tasting Room Milk Stout is a part of the brewery’s Sample Twelve mixed pack this fall.

The series is named for beers found only in Boulevard’s Kansas City Tasting Room. That was, until the brewery started taking a few hand select winners and putting them into the Sample Twelve pack. The mixed box changes seasonally.

Boulevard Tasting Room Milk Stout is brewed with Cara 100, 120 and 300 malt, plus Patagonia Black Pearl. Those malts give the beer strong flavors of chocolate and caramel that compliment the creaminess of the lactose milk sugar addition.

Tasting Room – Milk Stout opens with aromas of bittersweet chocolate, espresso and toffee that transition to flavors of the same. The addition of lactose, a non-fermentable sugar, works with the rolled oats to deliver a creamy, lingering finish.

Boulevard Tasting Room Milk Stout is a 12 ounce bottle offering in the fall Sample Twelve Pack (alongside Rosemary IPA) and in the brewery’s Tasting Room.

Style: Milk Stout
Hops: Bravo, Cascade
Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft. Limited.

Debut: August, 2016

5.5% ABV, 12 IBUs

Branding Update: Boulevard Dark Truth Stout

Boulevard Dark Truth 2016

Boulevard Dark Truth Stout will be sporting a new look next time you see it.

The year-round imperial stout has been a staple for the Kansas City based brewery for years. The new labels are slowly rolling out into the market now, seen on Funky Pumpkin, and Bourbon Barrel Quad (recently changed to 12 ounce bottles).

Layers of complex flavors slowly emerge from the glass: espresso, roasted fig, crème brulée. Belgian yeast provides a plum-like fruitiness, noble German hops reveal spicy, herbal notes, while the rich, velvety mouthfeel mellows to a dry, smoky finish.

Boulevard Dark Truth Stout is available in 12 ounce bottles, no draft.

Style: Imperial Stout (w/ Brown Sugar)
Hops: Magnum, Zeus, Citra, Perle
Malts: Pale Malt, Amber 50, Cara 120, Cara 300, Chocolate, Roasted Barley, Chocolate Rye, Malted Rye, Malted Wheat, Honey Naked Oats, Flaked Oats

Boulevard Funkier Pumpkin debuts

Boulevard Funkier Pumpkin 2016

In 2015, Boulevard Brewing released a slightly tart pumpkin beer, Funky Pumpkin. (Imagine a slightly tart pumpkin beer with spices, and you’re close). Certainly building off of the success of that release is a new Smokestack Series offering, Boulevard Funkier Pumpkin.

Boulevard Funkier Pumpkin is funkier indeed – the brewery has allowed the wild yeast Brettanomyces more time to develop the flavor of the beer.

RELATED: Boulevard Rye-on-Rye “Sazerac”

Never content with brewing “to style,” our brewers’ approach to Boulevard Funkier Pumpkin is far from your standard take on pumpkin spice beers (much like its sibling, Funky Pumpkin). Here they’ve given bretranomyces additional the to develop, adding further complexity and character. Subtle pumpkin flavor is accented by traditional spicing in a beer that showcases the hallmark earthy notes of our house wild yeast strain.

Boulevard Funkier Pumpkin debuts the week of August 8th in Kansas City, Missouri. Other markets will follow.

Funky Pumpkin is shipping alongside this new release starting this week.

Style: American Wild Ale (w/ Pumpkin, Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Ginger, Allspice.)
Availability: 750ml Bottles, Draft. Limited.
Debut: August, 2016

8.5% ABV

Boulevard Rye on Rye “Sazerac” debuts for beer/cocktail lovers

Boulevard Brewing’s Smokestack Series, a collection of big, unique, beers, has grown considerably over the past year or two. Boulevard Brewing adds Delaware, Pennsylvania, Connecticut

Boulevard Brewing Logo 2015

Boulevard Brewing Company (Kansas City, MO) is adding Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut to their distribution territory this summer.

The brewery has inked deals with Nittany Beverage, Wilsbach, Kirchner’s Beverage Distributor, Mid-State Beverage and Frank B. Fuhrer Wholesale in Pennsylvania, NKS Distributors in Delaware, and Brescome Barton in Connecticut.

“It has been gratifying to bring Boulevard beers to parts of the Northeast these past few years,” said Bobby Dykstra, vice president of sales. “Every new market seems to have lots of craft beer fans who have been exposed to our beers, people with Midwest ties who are really happy to see us. We’re pleased to have an opportunity to again become part of their daily lives.”

Boulevard Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale, The Calling IPA, Tell-Tale Tart and Ginger Lemon Radler are already rolling out in PA and DE. Connecticut can expect the brewery to hit taps in late July.

Boulevard Love Child No. 7 now available

Boulevard Love Child No. 7

Boulevard Love Child No. 7 is hitting shelves now. The 7th interation of the brewery’s on-going wild/sour beer.

Each release is of course different, a blend of wood aged and stainless steel aged sour beer. Boulevard Love Child No. 7 is a blend of various vintages of Flanders-style our red ales.

#7 resembles more of the Love Child #4 & #5 editions, then what you tasted in #6 (which was a blonde sour base).

We reached out to Jeremy Danner, Ambassador brewer for Boulevard, asking him to describe this new release..

While it’s a return to a more familiar interpretation, I’d hesitate to make direct comparisons between earlier releases as we’re not really trying to create the exact same beer each year, rather we’re offering up a blend of what we feel is the best sour beer we have on hand at the time.

Boulevard Love Child No. 7 is a 750ml bottle offering, corked and caged.

Style: American Wild Ale (Barrel AgedWhiskeyWine Barrels)
Arrival: April, 2016
