Boulevard Noble Prize coming to Smokestack Series in 2017

Boulevard Noble Prize

Boulevard Noble Prize is set to debut in 2017.

The Kansas City, Missouri based brewery already has a year-round pilsner, KC Pils, a tribute their hometown. Next year, a stronger one will rise into the Smokestack Series.

Boulevard Noble Prize, an imperial pilsner, is slated to debut in the brewery’s Smokestack Series lineup in March, 2017.

The Smokestack Series is currently home to beers like Tank 7, The Sixth Glass, and Bourbon Barrel Quad. This year, Boulevard started making the switch to 12 ounce bottles for some of the Smokestack Series releases. Noble Prize will follow suit in 12 ounce bottles as well.

Two beers are slated to join the year-round Smokestack Series in 2017. Prize will be first, with a new imperial stout coming later in the year.

Boulevard Cranberry Orange Radler, the brewery’s 2nd debuts

Boulevard Cranberry Orange Radler

Boulevard Cranberry Orange Radler is now hitting shelves.

In 2014, the brewery debuted Ginger Lemon Radler. A departure from the brewery’s exemplary lineup? Sure. A success? You bet. Lighter alcohol offerings are always in demand.

Now in October, Boulevard Cranberry Orange Radler is expanding the brewery’s radler lineup. Jeremy Danner, brewer at Boulevard mentions that the process to create this release is pretty much the same – base beer is Unfiltered Wheat; swapping in ginger and lemon juice.

Cranberry Orange Radler will open with an aroma of sweet blood oranges and just a hint of cranberry. The blood orange character boldly manifests in the flavor giving way to cranberry tartness.

Boulevard Cranberry Orange Radler is a 12 ounce can and draft offering in fall, 2016.

Style: Radler (w/ Cranberries, Oranges)
Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft.
Debut: October, 2016

Boulevard Bourbon Barrel Quad: New Size

Boulevard Bourbon Barrel Quad

Boulevard Bourbon Barrel Quad, aka “BBQ” has been a part of the brewery’s Smokestack Series for years. The Kansas City based brewery ages a quadrupel in bourbon barrels with cherries for the release.

Starting in September, this popular Smokestack member is switching over to 12 ounce bottles, and becoming a year-round release.

Based loosely on the Smokestack Series’ The Sixth Glass, this abbey-style quadrupel is separated into a number of oak bourbon barrels where it ages for varying lengths of time, some for up to three years. Cherries are added to make up for the “angel’s share” of beer lost during barrel aging. Selected barrels are then blended for optimum flavor. The resulting beer retains only very subtle cherry characteristics, with toffee and vanilla notes coming to the fore.

The brewery has instituted this new format change for one of the brewery’s most loved beers. You’ll find “BBQ” in 12 ounce bottles, a part of a 4-pack, year-round going forward.

Style: Quadrupel (w/ Cherries. Brown Sugar, Candi Sugar.  Barrel Aged)
Hops: Magnum, Styrian Golding
Malts: Pale Malt, Cara 300, Munich, Malted Wheat

Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft.
Debut:
September, 2016

11% ABV, 19 IBUs

Boulevard Funky Pumpkin, gone after 2016

Boulevard Funky Pumpkin 2016

Boulevard Funky Pumpkin makes a seasonal return this week. The Kansas City, Missouri’s unique take on the pumpkin seasonal.

In a sea of pumpkin spiced ales, Boulevard Funky Pumpkin is definitely one one of the more unique. In the spirit of Berliner Weisse, Funky Pumpkin is kettle soured with the lactic acid producing bacteria, Lactobacillus.

Our entry in the very popular pumpkin ale market is an eccentric one, with pumpkin flavor scarcely present, upstaged by cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg and ginger. Brewhouse souring lends a subtle, pleasant tartness putting the “unk” in “funky.”

Boulevard Funky Pumpkin is available in 12 ounce bottles and draft. 2016 season will be the last time you’ll find Funky Pumpkin (at least for a while), as the brewery will not release it in 2017.

Style: Pumpkin Beer (w/ Cinnamon, Allspice, Nutmeg, Ginger.)
Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft. Seasonal Release.
Latest Return: Early August, 2016

5.8% ABV, 28 IBUs

New stout cocktail: Boulevard Imperial Stout X Manhattan

Boulevard Imperial Stout X Manhattan

Boulevard Imperial Stout X Manhattan is ready to join the brewery’s Smokestack Series.

Recently, the Kansas City, Missouri based brewery expanded their well-known Smokestack Series to include a few entries with new treatments. The most recent example – Rye-on-Rye Sazerac. (Brewed to mimic the cocktail.)

Boulevard Imperial Stout X Manhattan incorporate the base imperial stout, aged in Jefferson’s Manhattan barrels, that were used age the cocktail

As a special treat for lovers of big, complex stouts, Boulevard Brewing Company offers the 2016 Imperial Stout “X” series. This batch was aged in cooperage that had been used to barrel finish Jefferson’s Manhattan cocktail, boding k an oaky/vanilla character with notes of earthy spice.
