Stone Give Me Stout or Give Me Death, a Virginia collaboration

Stone Give Me Stout or Give Me Death

Stone Give Me Stout or Give Me Death, a Virginia based collaboration, debuts this week.

The Escondido, California based Stone Brewing has a second American home now in Richmond, Virginia. To commemorate their new digs, the brewery (no stranger to collaboration) has partnered with Hardywood Park Craft Brewery, Ardent Craft Ales and the governor of Virginia. Starting this week, their collaboration debuts.

RELATED: Stone Collaboration Series

The patriotically inspired Stone Give Me Stout or Give Me Death, echoes the words of Patrick Henry, who spoke the famous words “Give me liberty, or give me death!” is Richmond in 1775. The base beer is an imperial stout, brewed with Virginia grown blackberries and raspberries.

“Stone Brewing has built an incredible operation here that is already benefiting the City of Richmond’s economy and its quality of life.  Now with its first collaboration with local mainstays, Ardent Craft Ales and Hardywood Park Craft Brewery, Stone has created an excellent platform for future partnerships with the Virginia craft beer industry.  It was a great honor to contribute to the production of this stout that touts both the history of our Commonwealth and its rich agricultural offerings, and an even greater honor to drink it!” – Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe.

Odell & Marble Brewing team up in Stone Megawheat Double IPA

Stone Megawheat Double IPA

Stone Megawheat Double IPA is a future collaborative release by the California based brewery.

This riff teams up Colorado’s Odell Brewing, Stone, and New Mexico’s Marble Brewing. The trio created a wheat laden,  “M” hop heavy, imperial IPA. “M” hops like Mandarina Bavaria, Motueka, and Mosaic. All that talk means a soft-on-your-palate beer with a ton of tangerine, orange, and citrus flavors.

Kick back and crank it up as we’ve done all the brewing.. the we being us and the special guest appearances of two heavy hitters in the indie craft beer industry: Colorado’s Odell and New Mexico’s Marble. Credited with 50 years of brewing chops, our trio built their wheat ale foundation on the classic “C” hops. Then, they rocked a pure hop triad of “M” hops to achieve a supercharged succession of orange, tangerine, lemon, lime, spice and dankness. The undulating riffs of Motueka, Mosaic, and Mandarina Bavaria hops slash through the wheat haze with equal footing, never playing over one another. The cacophony of flavor is what fans would expect ahead of a path that directly leads to the main stage… and then off the front of it, into the crowd!

Stone Megawheat Double IPA will be a 22 ounce bottle release, most likely in 2017. The brewery has not yet announced this beer.

Style: Imperial IPA
Hops: Mandarina Bavaria, Motueka, Mosaic

Stone Double Bastard Bigger Longer Uncut, all Islay Scotch

Double Bastard Bigger Longer Uncut bottle

Stone Double Bastard Bigger Longer Uncut, a new form of one of the most “arrogant” beers out there.

Double Bastard has been out there for years – an 11% alcohol by volume, in your face, hoppy American strong ale. Now, like a special director’s cut edition of a movie, comes Stone Double Bastard Bigger Longer Uncut. A bastard with extra scenes. An alternate ending. And of course, director’s commentary:

Weakness Is worn on the sleeves. Boldness Is within the heart. This intensified blend of barrel-aged Double Bastard Ale is all heart baby. The weak will find it to be a telltale heart. It knows of your fallibility. It smells your fear. The heart of this beer disdains you, as it disdains all things homogenized, wimpy and uncultured. You do know the truth of yourself, no? If you hesitated to answer that, if even for a split second, that in and of itself is telling. If you aren’t capable of knowing the reality of yourself, this beer can and will take the responsibility of informing you of what you should already know. (And it you’ve lost your way in this text already and no longer are clear about what I am saying, your reading pace has exceeded your comprehension pace. Go back, slow down and start over, bright eyes.) Take a deep breath. Let it out slowly. Evenly. Give yourself some positive affirmations. Breathe deep again. There. Feel better? If you followed those instructions, then set this bottle down and back away immediately, you new age poseur. Fight or flight and I’d recommend the latter for you, tiger. Wet paper bags are more your speed.

Stone Double Bastard Bigger Longer Uncut is aged in 100% Islay Scotch Whisky barrels. Aggressive indeed, and definitely NOT for everyone.

Taste. If you are fan of peaty scotch whisky, then look no future. Not every beer can handle a scotch barrel. It can easily overrun by the barrels. This Bastard is indeed peaty as hell, very much scotch heavy, with a strong flavor undertone of everything that Double Bastard is. Consider this your fireside sipper. Drink it as speak in a fancy accent.

You’ll see this beer falls Stone Brewing’s new Arrogant Brewing moniker. Available in 22 ounce bottles for a limited time.

Style: American Strong Ale (Barrel Aged. Scotch. Bourbon.)
Availability: 22oz Bottles, Draft.
Debut: November, 2016

Heavy Seas Partner Ships Imperial Brown Ale, brewed with Stone debuts

Heavy Seas Partner Ships Imperial Brown Ale

Heavy Seas Partner Ships Imperial Brown Ale, the fourth in the brewery’s Partner Ships Series, has officially debuted.

Thus far there have been three collaborative releases. The first – a red IPA brewed with Maine Beer Company. That ode to hops was followed up by a collaboration with Hershey, Pennsylvania’s Troegs Brewing, and most recently, a rye witbier brewed with Terrapin.

The fourth release is brewed with one of California’s most well-known breweries, Stone. Brew day was back in October for this imperial brown IPA brewed with blackstrap molasses.

Brewed with Blackstrap Molasses in the kettle, chewy malt character supports layers of American hop mayhem (we are playing with Stone after all) – a burly, palate obliterating Imperial Brown IPA!

Heavy Seas Partner Ships Imperial Brown IPA will be available in 22 ounce bottles. Estimated release – November, 2016.

Style: Imperial IPA (w/ Blackstrap Molasses)

Stone Enjoy By Tangerine IPA: 10/31/16

Stone Enjoy By Tangerine IPA

Stone Enjoy By Tangerine IPA hits shelves again now, part of the brewery’s ongoing dedication to freshness. Tangerine IPA is joined periodically throughout the year with other rotating variants such as Unfiltered IPA and Black IPA.

This latest edition of Stone Enjoy By Tangerine IPA has an “expiration date” of Halloween, October 31st. Find it, and drink it by that date or else.

After brewing this intense double IPA with more than 10 different hops and consistently delivering it faster than any bottled IPA on the planet, we decided to do something different with this Stone Enjoy By IPA—we took it to another level, again. Puréed tangerines were added to the batch to create a devastatingly fresh IPA with a tang of tangerine. The flavors yielded by this addition to the recipe meld beautifully with the bitterness of the hops. True to this series, Stone Enjoy By Tangerine IPA is brewed specifically NOT to last, and should be enjoyed within 37 days.

Stone Enjoy By Tangerine IPA is available across Stone’s distribution footprint starting in late September. It will be available on draft as well as in 6 packs and 22oz bottles.

Style: Imperial IPA (w/ Tangerine)

Stone Vanilla Bean Porter debuts

Stone Vanilla Bean Stout

Stone Vanilla Bean Porter has joined the Escondido, California brewery’s fall lineup.

In the past, Stone has released a vanilla bean based beer – Smoked Porter with Vanilla Bean. Those that don’t mind a touch of smoke in their beer, loved it.

Stone Vanilla Bean Porter combines the flavors of a chocolate malt porter, with the world renown Madagascar Vanilla Bean. The brewery describes this beer as having a light creaminess, thanks to the world’s second most expensive spice, with chocolate and coffee undertones from the chocolate malt.

There’s nothing simple or run of the mill about this “little pod” cultivated from the finicky vines of the Indian Ocean islands vanilla orchids. The thousands of richly aromatic seeds buried inside each of these plump vanilla fruit pods became our beer-making muse for this vanilla bean chocolate malt porter recipe. Distinguished by the Madagascar vanilla bean, this lux ingredient imparts a delicate creaminess and palate-seducing softness. Additionally, its presence heightens the roundness of the chocolate undertones and hints of coffee typically associated with beers this style. Dripping in the world’s second-most expensive spice, this porter is extremely drinkable with just the right amount of vanilla bean richness and deepness.

Stone Vanilla Bean Porter is available on draft, and in 12 ounce bottles; part of the brewery’s Cabin Fever Mixed Pack.

Style: Porter (w/ Vanilla Beans)
Hops: Chinook, Magnum, Idaho 7, Motueka and Azacca
Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft.
