Wicked Weed’s Head of Sour Production departs for BrewDog

Asheville, Norh Carolina’s Wicked Weed Brewing said goodbye today to their Head of Sour Production manager Richard Kilcullen. He is departing the brewery for Scotland based BrewDog.

An employee with Wicked Weed since day one, Kilcullen is one of the talented individuals responsible for the magic that comes out of the brewery’s Funkatorium.

Construction begins this month on Brewdog’s sour and wild beer facility in Ellon, Scotland, near Aberdeen.

“One of my greatest passions as a brewer is incorporating the local flavors and flora into my beers. I look forward to finding native yeasts and microbes everywhere from the heather-strewn fields, the oldest of orchards, and maybe some of the icy peaks in the Highlands as well. The Scots are no strangers to wild yeast and barrel aging and I hope to tap into that tradition to give BrewDog beers an identity all their own” – Richard Kilcullen

The new facility is tentatively being called Brewdog Overworks, a stand alone sour and wild facility. The brewery should be completed by fall, 2017. Per BrewDog, expect fruited Berliner Weisse, oak barrel sour ales, fruited sour ales, farmhouse ales, and of course – a lot of oak foudres.

The Bruery The Order ships nationally this month

Shipping nationally this month is new The Bruery The Order, a Belgian-style ale.

Taking a page from monastic breweries, The Bruery The Order is a Belgian-style abbey ale, brewed with dates and coriander spicing.

Monastic breweries wrote the book on complex ales that weave notes of dark fruits, spices, caramelized character and warmth into each sip. The Order summons that tradition and adds local inspiration. Our darkening, Belgian-inspired abbey ale features dark-fruited character from dates, Belgian-style sugars and subtle spicing from coriander, which compliments the Belgian yeast esters.

The Bruery The Order releases to the brewery’s Society members this week, publicly on January 17th.

Style: Belgian-style Strong Ale (w/ Dates, Coriander, Candi Sugar.)
Availability: 750ml Bottles, Draft.

Stone Enjoy By Chocolate & Coffee IPA debuts in “fresh” series

Stone Enjoy By Chocolate & Coffee IPA is officially the next in a line of “Enjoy By” beers.

Fresh and hoppy is the core of Stone Brewing’s Enjoy By Series, giving distributors and drinkers alike a time frame to ship, purchase and drink the “Devastatingly Fresh” India pale ale.

Since the beer’s inception, various iterations of the beer have been released, including Enjoy By Tangerine IPA, and Enjoy By Unfiltered IPA. Headed to shelves now – Stone Enjoy By Coffee & Chocolate IPA.

The brewing team tested several batches of fruit and chocolate beers before finding the right blend of hops, chocolate and and coffee. The coffee is San Diego Sunrise, a blonde roast by Ryan Bros. Coffee. This particular roast is less on the roast and more on the chocolate flavor. The cocoa beans were carefully sourced from Belize, and shelled roasted and shelled by the team.

It’s not unusual to see pronouncements of “I Heart Hops,” “I Heart Chocolate” or “I Heart Coffee” throughout #socialmedia, printed on T-shirts and, notch, emblazoned on coffee cups. Over the past couple of decades we have helped add “I Freaking Heart IPAs” to that lexicon. Today, passionate people can’t imagine a world without all of the above. For this special edition, we added chocolate and coffe to make this devastatingly fresh IPA even more seductive to the palate. We humbly suggest that you use this libation to proclaim your love for someone…and we suggest that someone be you. Loving yourself is exactly what this libation is all about.

Stone Enjoy By Coffee & Chocolate IPA will be a draft, 12 and 22 ounce bottle and draft release.

Style: Imperial IPA (w/ Coffee, Chocolate)
Hops: Nugget, Super Galena, Simcoe, Amarillo, Delta, Target, Cascade, Citra, Galaxy, Nelson Sauvin, Motueka, Helga

Celebrating Oregon, Deschutes Pacific Wonderland Lager debuts

Deschutes Pacific Wonderland Lager launches year-round this month.

Around 60 years ago, “Pacific Wonderland” started showing up on license plates in Oregon to celebrate the state’s 100th birthday. A very fitting name for a beautiful state full of great views and great beers. Deschutes thought that kind of beauty and wonderment needed a beer that captures the adventure.

in the spirit of Oregon comes Deschutes Pacific Wonderland, a sessionable lager that debuts this month. The 5.5% alcohol by volume beer features Hallertau Herkules, Hallertau Mettelfruh and Tettnang Mandarina hops. It’s the dry-hopping that really makes this special.

“When we set out to create Pacific Wonderland, we wanted to capture the diverse spirit of Oregon in a single beer that we could share with everyone. Our team explored something a little different, creating a lager by style and then dry hopping it to make something unique – just like our home state.” – Deschutes brewmaster, Veronica Vega

The label depicts the “endlessly diverse adventures” available in Oregon, across all seasons.

Deschutes Pacific Wonderland Lager is available in 12 ounce bottles and draft starting in January, 2017. 12 packs to follow in the spring.

Style: Lager

Anchor Liberty IPA to debut soon

Anchor Liberty IPA, an all new IPA debuts this month.

San Francisco’s Anchor Brewing has some pretty hardcore bragging rights when it comes to India pale ale in the United States. In case someone asks you, they were one of the first to brew it. Liberty Ale is as historic as it is tasty.

IPA is the the most popular style in the craft brewing segment. It constantly evolves, tastes change, and new hop varieties hit the market. Anchor, much like many other established breweries, realize this.

This new recipe features Cascade hops, plus newer varieties of El Dorado, and Nelson Sauvin. The resulting IPA is “mouthwateringly complex and robust aromas of pine and citrus in this crisp, American-style IPA.”

Liberty IPA is our re-imaging of craft-brew classic Liberty Ale, envisioned through the lens of today’s IPAs. We first brewed Liberty Ale in 1975, to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Paul Revere’s midnight ride. This revolutionary forerunner of the modern IPA introduced America to the Casade hoping nearly lost art of dry-hopping. Like its predescor, Liberty IPA is made with two-row pale malt and Cascade hops. It is the combination of Cascade with new hop varieties -in both brewhouse and cellar – that creates the mouthwateringly complex and robust aromas of pine and citrus in this crisp, American-style IPA. The label, like Liberty Ale’s, features a bald eagle, whose symbolism runs deep for all Americans including Native Americans.

Anchor Liberty IPA will be a 12 ounce bottle and draft release nationally starting in January, 2017 for a limited time.

Style: IPA
Hops: Cascade, Plus new varieties.
Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft
Debut: January, 2017
