The Ballast Point/Brewdog collaboration is finally going to see the light of day. Almost a year ago (November 11, 2011),folks from Ballast Point Brewing (San Diego, CA) jumped the pond to Scotland and created San Diego Scotch Ale. The group soaked raisins in Ballast Point’s Three Sheets Rum.  Then they aged it in a scotch whiskey barrel.

Look for bottles to be released in the Brewdog store in September, 2012.

Lost Abbey Meets Iron Maiden In August Box Set Release

Lost Abbey Track 8

It’s August. That means the 8th release in The Lost Abbey’s Ultimate Box Set Series will be released. Each beer is a blend, or a one time creation, with a metal overtone. Track #8 is a bourbon barrel version of Judgement Day. (The base beer for Lost Abbey’s Cuvee de Tomme.) The rocking didn’t stop there.

The conversations turned to Oatmeal Raisin cookies and the essence of a freshly baked treat. So we added some cinnamon sticks to the barrels and threw in some dried chiles as well.

The result is sure to be big.Judgement Day is a quadrupel brewed with raisins. Bourbon, cinnamon, and chilies? Sold. You’ll only get this one at Lost Abbey (to drink on site) on August 18, 2012.  What’s in the name? Track #8 is named for Iron Maiden’s “Number of the Beast.”

Style: Quadrupel (w/ Raisins, Cinnamon, Chilies, Barrel Aged)
Availability: 12.7 oz bottles. One time release

13.7% ABV

Avery’s The Beast Rises Again August 1st

Avery’s The Beast returns on August 1st.  The best is a Belgian strong dark ale, that typically clocks in around 16%. The Beast is a part of the brewery’s “Demons of Ale” series, and is brewed with dates, molasses, dark candi sugar, honey, raisins and turbinado sugar.

The Beast is a seducer — accomodating, complicated, powerful, dark and created to last the ages. With a deep burgundy color and aromas of honey, nutmeg, mandarin orange and pineapple, this massive and challenging brew has flavors akin to a beautiful Carribean rum. Dates, plums, raisins and molasses are dominant in a rich vinous texture. Cellarable for 10+ years.

Style: Belgian Strong Dark (w/ Dates, Molasses, Dark Belgian Candi Sugar, Colorado Honey, Raisins, Turbinado Sugar)
Availability: 12 oz bottles, Limited Draft
Arrival (2012): August 1

16+% ABV
