Cigar City Slow As Molasses, a collaboration with Gainesville, Florida’s Swamp Head Brewery.
Cigar City Slow As Molasses is an old ale, brewed with Florida molasses. Proceeds will benefit the Florida Brewers Guild, who has been busy lately fighting against legislative moves that could damage how craft breweries do business in the state.
The Florida Brewers Guild has been a catalyst for growth of Florida’s craft beer industry since its inception in 1996. The guild helps brewers around Florida band together to fight for legislation that helps our collaborative industry continue to grow. This collaboration brew, and others of its kind that will arise, is a tribute and fundraiser for our friends at the FGB. We like to think of it as an attaboy in a bottle.
Cigar City Slow As Molasses is a 22 ounce bottle offering. This is part one of a two part collaboration series between the two brewers.
This offering has been officially announced by the brewery.
Swamp Head Brewery (Gainesville, FL) will release Saison Du Swamp again on October 1st, 2014. The saison is touted as one of the best offerings by the Floridian craft brewer, arriving just once a year.
Summers here in North Florida are hot and humid, not exactly the conditions that most ale yeasts prefer. Except for the yeast used in the Wallonia region of Belgium to produce a refreshing yet complex seasonal ale known as Saison (French for season).
Swamp Head Saison Du Swamp is available in 750ml bottles and limited draft.
Hops: Hallertau, East Kent Goldings
Malts: Pilsner, Vienna, Flaked Wheat, Flaked Oats, Flaked Rye
Availability: 750ml bottles
7.6% ABV, 26 IBUS
Swamp Head Lloyd’s Christmas Ale, brewed with spruce tips.
Swamp Head Udderly Calm Stout
Swamp Head Brewery (Gainesville, FL) is moving. They just needed more room. The current 6,000+ square foot space is at capacity.
The new space is right now the street from their current location, next to Alley Katz bowling alley (3705 SW 42nd Ave, Gainesville, FL 32608).
The new location should be open by September, 2014.
More SEC Football rivalry. Terrapin Beer Company’s “Spike” is in Florida today brewing a beer with Swamp Head (Gainesville) on a new collaboration called Bitter Rivalry. If you know nothing of the rivalry that is the Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs, it’s… huge.
The two teams can’t play at their own stadiums. They have to play on neutral ground in Jacksonville, Florida. “The Landing” in Jacksonville becomes the worlds largest outdoor cocktail party (more like, biggest outdoor $hit talking/drunk fest) in America. Trust me, I’ve been.
The rivalry heats up today with this new collaboration. Swamp Head is teasing details, but haven’t commented on the style. There are oranges involved, we know this much.
The Georgia/Florida game this year is November 2. There will be release parties and activities around this beer closer to the bloodbath. Oh, and by the way this isn’t Spike’s first SEC rivalry brew this year. In August he went to Knoxville, Tennessee (that’s UT territory) to brew another rivalry brew.
