Stillwater To Bring Stateside & Cellar Door To Small Bottles

Stillwater Artisanal Ales will will be offering two of their popular offerings in smaller, 12.7 oz bottles this year.  Both beers are previously available in 750ml bottles.

Cellar Door – Starting with a base of German wheat & pale malts this crisp slightly hazy foundation was then accented with a blend of Sterling & Citra hops providing a intricate blend of herbal grass & tangerine citrus flavors and aroma. to pull this all together and to complete the ’cleansing’ aspect of my vision i gently finished the ale off with a touch of white sage, lending a mild earthy spice character to the blend.

Stateside Saison – Pays homage to old world tradition while celebrating new world innovation. Naturally brewed with the finest European malts & fresh aromatic hops from the United States & New Zealand.

Both great saisons in small, easier to manage formats…

Stillwater Artisanal Ales officially has a place of their own.  Well, kind of.  While Brian Strumke still brews at DOG Brewing in Westminster, Maryland, his new Pub & Provisions is now open in Baltimore.  Taken from the name of a Stillwater beer (or vice versa), Of Love & Regret is a collaboration between Stillwater founder and Ted Stelzenmuller of Jack’s Bistro.

The pub features 20 draught beers, select bottles, and cocktails, plus a killer food lineup.

Brian Strumke’s Beer Table Table Beer

The latest Stillwater Artisanal Ales brew is a collaboration with Brooklyn’s Beer Table.  Strumke’s beer was brewed with Belgian yeasts, featuring Brettanomyces yeast, and plenty of hops.  It comes in at an easy drinking 4.7% ABV.  It is available now at Beer Table in New York in both bottle and draft.

There will actually be a series of these collaborative beers called Table Beer.  The goal is to create a series of beers that one could drink everyday.  The brewers of these beers were asked to make a beer that they fully understand and explain.  They have also committed to producing the beer on a fairly large scale and regularly.

A quote from Brian Strumke on his Table Beer label:

“So for designing my table beer I had to balance all my imbibing desires into a compilation of some of my favorite attributes; thus creating a product that would be pleasing on any day or time. Crisp, dry finish highlighted by esters of Belgian yeast and the light funk of Brettanomyces; then accented with an abundance of hops adding a piney, earthy aroma. Balance is always the goal, but for this I also wanted extreme quaff-ability, refreshment, and subtle complexible… Classic? perhaps.”  [Table Beer]

Stillwater To Open “Of Love & Regret” Pub

Stillwater Of Love & RegretStillwater Artisanal Ales’s Brian Strumke is planning to open a  new pub – Of Love & Regret in Baltimore, Maryland.  The pub will be a 3 floor collaboration between Stillwater and Jack’s Bistro.  1st floor: pub. 2nd Floor: Provisions store, featuring coffee, cheeses, & more.  3rd Floor: Special Events.

From Brian:
Located at 1028 S. Conkling St. just off I-95 in the Brewer’s Hill neighborhood of East Baltimore directly across the street from the old National Brewing Company. The same neighborhood that Brian (Strumke) grew up and also the birth place of Stillwater Artisanal  (formally awarded #2 best new brewer in the world for 2011 by Ratebeer.com and currently sits in the global top 100 for 2012).   The area is also home to one of Baltimore’s most acclaimed  and innovative restaurants, Jacks’ Bistro. The two parties decided to join forces after collaborating on a number of successful beer dinners and the mutual admiration shared between Chef Ted Stelzenmuller & Brian for one another’s craft, made it an obvious decision.

The idea is to feature traditional concepts, twisted by a forward-thinking mentality. “both Chef Ted and myself prefer to work outside the box, and both of us being avid world travelers provides us with constant inspiration. So the idea is to offer some of the best in global food & drink culture together with a mix of Baltimore local heritage.. to quote the Talking Heads, ‘head in the clouds, feet on the ground.’ “

Designed in Stillwater aesthetic, ‘of Love & Regret’ will provide three unique environments in the spacious venue of three floors that feature views of Baltimore’s Downtown Inner Harbor and outdoor seating. The first floor will be the ‘pub,’ featuring causal upscale dining with an innovative menu designed by Chef Ted to compliment the esoteric beer selection featuring many exclusive Stillwater beers and collaborations. The list will also be rounded out by selections from Brian’s global brewing brethren, again including many rare and exclusive offerings.

The second floor is where the ‘provisions’ come into play in the form of a focused ‘shop’ filled with libations of all types along with other artisan products available for enjoying on site or for take away. Here is where we will see the expansion of Stillwater Artisanal into other avenues of epicurean culture including collaborations with both local & international artisans to produce exclusive cheeses, charcuterie, sausage, bread, and even coffee. “We come across so many amazing craft products around the globe while on our travels, ‘of Love & Regret’ will give us the opportunity to share some of these experiences with our friends & family back home in Baltimore”. The third floor will be reserved for special events during the year and private rental space.

Open 7 days a week for lunch & dinner featuring an innovative menu (most items designed with the beer in mind) by Chef Ted Stelzenmuller of Jack’s Bistro, backed by inspired cocktails, select wines, and a Stillwater-curated beer list of roughly 23 drafts, 1-2 cask ale beer engines, an extensive bottle list, and other exclusive artisan products all of which will be available for on-site enjoyment or take away.

Bols Genever And Stillwater Bring You A Beer And A Shot

Ever heard of the Dutch Kopstootje experience?  You probably don’t think so, but more than likely you have – it is the concept of a beer and a shot.  Translated into “little head butt”, Kopstootje can be found in every bar in Holland. Typically you would receive a tulip glass filled up with Bols Genever for sipping alongside a beer.

Lucas Bols has teamed up with American Craft Brewer Brian Strumke of Stillwater Artisanal Ales to educate the American public on the concept of Kopstootje.  Stillwater is brewing a saison style ale, called Stillwater Artisanal Kopstootje, that will be a deconstruction of Bols Genever brewed with barley, wheat, rye, corn, and spices.

When completed, the Stillwater brew and distilled spirit will go on a seven city US tour.  Brian Strumke of Stillwater and Tal Nadari and Jacob Grier of Bols Genever will travel the country with their beer and spirit pairing teaching guests about the flavor profiles.
