Southern Tier 2XMAS Arrives This Fall

Contrary to what BSJ was told before, Southern Tier Brewing will release 2XMAS this year. This new seasonal from Southern Tier drops a little later this fall. 2XMAS is brewed like Swedish Glögg. What’s that? Typically, a glögg is a mulled wine, served warm with spices and citrus. Obviously in this case, substitute beer for wine, and now you’re drinking like the Swedes.

Style: Herb/Spice Beer  (w/ Figs, Orange Peels, Cardamom, Cinnamon, Cloves, Ginger)
Availability: 12oz bottles, Draft
Arrival: Hit shelves in October, 2012. First release.

8% ABV

More On Southern Tier 2XMAS

A little while back, BSJ mentioned that Southern Tier was testing batches of a new seasonal to be called 2XMAS. That is indeed true. The spiced brown ale is brewed with figs and orange peels, plus 2 different hops and 4 malts. Southern Tier is taking a different take on a Christmas release. 2XMAS is brewed like Swedish Glögg. What’s that? Typically, a glögg is a mulled wine, served warm with spices and citrus. Obviously in this case, substitute beer for wine, and now you’re drinking like the Swedes.

UPDATE: 10/20/12. On shelves now.

Southern Tier Creme Brulee 2012

You want a beer that drinks like a dessert? Look no further. Southern Tier’s Creme Brulee is back again for 2012.

“We are not the harbingers of truth as some may suggest but it may indeed be argued that our brewing philosophy is tantamount to a dessert with a bellicose past. How, you may ask, would a brewery determine a likeness to hard-coated custard? Our response is simple; it’s all in the power of history, and of course, the extra finesse needed to top off a contentious treat with definition.

By comprehending the labyrinthine movement of time, one would not think it strange to trace the errant path of an ordinary object such as a cream dessert only to discover that it has been the cause of cultural disputes since the middle ages. The British founders of burnt cream and from Spain, crema catalana, both stand by their creative originality and we respect that, but it was the French Crème Brûlée, amid the strife of contention, that survived to represent our deliciously creamy brew.”

Style: Imperial Stout  (w/ Vanilla Beans)
Hops: Columbus, Horizon.
Malts: 2 Row Malt, Dark Caramel Malt
Other: Lactose Sugar

10% ABV

Southern Tier’s “Live” Pale Ale

Southern Tier Live Pale Ale

Southern Tier looks to add an interesting twist to the pale ale style.  A little bit of bottle conditioning.  Bottling conditioning is the act of adding extra sugar and yeast to the bottle to condition the beer after it’s filled.  Due to the presence of the yeast, the beer develops and changes slightly overtime.  Live is a fitting name, as the beer is very much active straight up  to the time you pour it in your glass.  Bottle conditioned beers have a longer shelf life, as opposed to a filtered beer.

Brewed with 4 varieties of malts, and 4 varieties of malts.

Style: Pale Ale
Availability:  22oz bombers
Arrival: TBA

5.5% ABV

note: The above is tentative.  Subject to change at whim of the brewer, the beer, or the barrel.
