Saint Arnold Divine Reserve Releases Tomorrow

Tomorrow, July 31st – Saint Arnold releases Divine Reserve #12.

DR12 is an old ale and was inspired by David Rogers’ winning entry in the 2011 Big Batch Brew Bash. There are two definitions of Old Ales. The first is an ale in the old style, which refers to an ale bigger than regular ales. This was the more common definition up to 15 years ago. Our Christmas Ale is an example of this style. The newer definition is a very high alcohol ale that has been aged. This is what DR12 is, except that you have to supply the aging. We did condition DR12 in the fermenters for over 2 months.

DR12 is a very big ale with the high alcohol (10%) creating a spicy malt and hop flavor. Aging will allow the alcohol to oxidize and create sherry flavors that will round out the beer. It will age best if stored cold. This beer will come into its own in a year and should be drinking great 5 years from now.

Style: Old Ale
Availability: Draft, 12 oz bottles. Limited 22oz bombers t00.

10% ABV

Saint Arnold Homefront IPA to benefit Operation Homefront (PR)

(Houston, TX) — Saint Arnold Brewing Company (www.saintarnold.com), the oldest craft brewery in Texas, has been involved in charitable activities in the past — but never anything like ‘Hops for Heroes.’ The undertaking centers around brewing Saint Arnold Homefront IPA, a special single-batch beer to benefit Operation Homefront, a charity that provides emergency financial and other assistance to the families of U.S. service members and wounded warriors.

Saint Arnold Homefront IPA has been embraced by the entire craft brewing community, with support from malt, hop. label, bottle and box suppliers. At 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 9th Saint Arnold will open its doors to volunteers — including Houston-area veterans — to help with one of the more labor-intensive aspects of the recipe — the zesting of nearly 2,000 oranges.

“It has been great to see the response from the craft brewing community — every phone call has been answered with an enthusiastic offer of support,” said Brock Wagner, founder/brewer of Saint Arnold Brewing Company. “The fact that we have local veterans participating in the making of the beer makes it even more special.”

In addition to Saint Arnold Brewing Company, the following organizations are participating:

– Action Box — Case box manufacturer

– Brewers Supply Group — Malt supplier

– Hops Direct, LLC — Hop supplier

– Inland Label — Label supplier

– Louisville Slugger — Baseball bat manufacturer (six bats are used in the aging of Homefront IPA)

– Mark Trece, Inc. — Printing plate supplier for the case boxes

– Primer Grey — Graphic designer

– Rahr Malting Group— Malt supplier

– The Bottle Shop — Bottle supplier

Additionally, several distributors, including Ben E. Keith Company, Capitol Beverage Co., Del Papa Distributing and Silver Eagle Distributors have agreed to donate their profits from the sale of Homefront IPA.

Saint Arnold expects to produce approximately 40,000 22-ounce bottles of Homefront IPA, with a goal of raising more than $100,000 for Operation Homefront. The release date for Homefront IPA is Thursday, May 24, 2012 — just in time for Memorial Day weekend. It will be available at stores, restaurants and bars throughout Texas.

Those volunteering in the orange zesting are encouraged to arrive at Saint Arnold Brewery at 2000 Lyons Avenue in Houston at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9th and are asked to bring their own zester.

Saint Arnold Endeavor Launches Today

Saint Arnold EndeavorSaint Arnold Brewing launches their newest year round offering today – Endeavor.   The beer is an imperial IPA with big name hops like Simcoe, Centennial, & Columbus.

Endeavour is a double IPA. The color is deep amber with a light, creamy head. The nose starts off with a touch of citrus but then turns decidedly into peaches. The taste starts off with creamy malt resulting from the pale 2 row and caramel malts and Saint Arnold yeast. The hop bitter starts low then builds to a crescendo, but always maintains a balance even in its big finish.

Style: Imperial IPA
Availability: 22oz bombers, Draft. Year Round availability.
Cellar?  The brewery suggests seeing how the beer evolves.

8.9% ABV

Endeavour notes (Per Saint Arnold):

1. While Endeavour is being released by our distributors on Leap Day (2/29), that does not mean all accounts will receive it that day. It may take as long as a week for some places to receive their first shipment.

2. We didn’t filter the first batch of Endeavour (bottling date 2/27/12) to see how that would go. The result: part of the tank is pretty clear and part is a little chunky. So if your bottle is a little chunky, you’ll know that your bottle was done closer to the end of the run. It all tastes good though! You may want to decant your bottle if the chunks bother you. We’re going to try filtering the second batch which will have a packaging date of 2/29/12.

Wednesday, February 29 we will be bringing back DR11, now named Endeavour Double IPA (or IPA2 as we labeled it – yes, we understand they are not the same – artistic license). This is our super hoppy yet oddly balanced double IPA with lots of citrus and subtle peach notes. We went out to Yakima last fall as the hops were being harvested to select the hops with the best aromatics. It shows.

The beer’s name, first suggested by a NASA astronaut, was selected by you who voted to name it after the space shuttle Endeavour, which in turn was named after Captain James Cook’s ship that explored the Pacific. Captain Cook’s ship was a bark, similar to ELISSA, Texas’ tall ship moored in Galveston and the namesake of Saint Arnold Elissa IPA.
