Brown Porter Added to Saint Arnold Icon Series

Saint Arnold Brewery releases a new Icon Series release on average every three months. Each one is different from the brewery’s usual suspects. Each one-off is designed by a brewer.

The newest in the series is Icon Brown Porter, an English influenced ale.

Our Brown Porter is a dark, medium bodied ale with rich chocolate malt notes. We used English malt and hops along with our Saint Arnold yeast that comes from a brewery in England.

Saint Arnold’s Bishop’s Barrel #5 Released

Saint Arnold Bishop’s Barrel No. 5 officially hits bars and restaurants starting today. It has been years since this recipe has hit glasses. You’ve had Bishop Barrel No. 5 before, it was once released as Divine Reserve No. 4.

Bishop Barrel No. 5 is a wee heavy scotch ale brewed in December 2012. It has spent the past nine months aging Old Forester bourbon barrels.

Saint Arnold describes the flavor: “The bourbon barrel contributes vanilla, cinnamon and touch of rich earthy pipe tobacco, which mix with an alcohol warmth that adds to the rich creaminess. “

Style: Scotch Ale (Barrel Aged)
Availability: 12oz bottles, Draft. Limited

12% ABV, 19 IBUs

Saint Arnold Bishop Barrel #4: August 12th

Saint Arnold Bishop 4

Those lovers of Saint Arnold Brewing Company’s Bishop Barrel Series can look forward to the forth release this month. Saint Arnold brewer Stephen Rawlings created a weizenbock that aged in Woodford Reserve bourbon barrels with cocoa nibs. Interestingly, after barrel aging this release, the weizen yeast – what gives this beer its flavor character, had all but disappeared. A small amount of fresh weizenbock was blended into the barrel aged batch to fix this.

There are notes of bourbon, chocolate and banana in this beer – something akin to a banana split with chocolate ice cream that perhaps grandpa spiked with a little bourbon.

Unbarrel aged Weizenbock will release alongside the BB4 for back and forth tasting fun. BB4 is only sold at bars and restaurants.

Style: Weizenbock (w/ Cocoa Nibs, Barrel Aged. Bourbon)
Availability: 12oz bottles, On-Premise locations only
Arrival: 8/12/13

 9.9% ABV

New Release: Saint Arnold’s Bishop’s Barrel No. 2

Saint Arnold Brewing Co. releases Bishop’s Barrel No. 2 today. This marks the second release in their small batch barrel aged series of beers. Bishop’s Barrel No. 2 is an old Ale aged for more than a year in oak Chardonnay barrels with cherries. The base beer was brewed in 2011, then added to oak barrels shortly after.

Saint Arnold Bishop’s Barrel is a series of beers that have been aged in barrels specifically chosen to enhance and complement the characteristics of the underlying beers. Each batch of Bishop’s Barrel is distinguished by the number on the neck label. Since fewer than 1,200 cases of 12-ounce bottles of Bishop’s Barrel No. 2 were produced, Bishop’s Barrel will only be available in pubs and restaurants throughout Texas and Louisiana that normally carry Saint Arnold beer.

“This beer has many layers of flavors,” said Saint Arnold founder/brewer Brock Wagner, who sourced the barrels from his cousin’s winery, Saintsbury, in Napa, Calif. “The nose is a combination of sour cherry, oaked chardonnay and a wild yeast character. The taste has pleasantly light cherry and light malt up front, some chardonnay in the middle and finishes dry with a distinct tartness.”

Style: Old Ale (w/ Cherries, Wine Barrel Aged. Chardonnay)
Availability: 12 oz bottles
Arrival: 2/18/13
