Peak Brewing Tasting

Today at Octane Coffee, Hop City is hosting it’s weekly free beer tasting.  This week’s featured brewer is Peak Organic Brewing Company (Portland, ME.)  Just released by Peak is their brand new brew – Fall Summit, a amber beer with summit and simcoe hops.

Also in the lineup is the IPA, and Nut Brown Ale.   The IPA is a nicely balanced American IPA (Simcoe, Amarillo, & Nugget hops, 7.2% ABV)  The Nut Brown is a rendition of an English brown ale, brewed with Hallertau hops and chocolate & munich malts.

Tasting starts at 5:30 and runs until 7:30.  Cost is free.  I’ll be pouring the beer so come by and say hello!

NEW RELEASE: Peak Brewing’s Fall Summit

Peak Brewing just finished the last of a their very successful summer release — “Summer Session Ale.”  A pale ale that canoodled with a wheat ale to make a crisp, summer session beer.  Owner Rob Lucente, and brewer Jon Cadoux haven’t let success go to their head.  Instead, immediately started planning their fall release — “Fall Summit Ale.”  Right now, this beer is in the tanks, shipping next week.

Quoting Rob Lucente – “Fall Summit makes use of summit and simcoe hops to impart a peppery, piney taste with a kiss of citrus notes in the finish with a great malty backbone.”

This beer, like all of Peak’s beers is certified USDA Organic.  What does this mean??  Rob uses small local farms around Portland, Maine to get the ingredients for his beers.  He supports the little guy, while making good beer.  I can’t find fault in that.

Taste Expectations: Simcoe hops in the nose, light malty character with a hoppy flavor throughout.   Light finish.  Great for fall.

Availability: 12oz/ 6pks, Draft.

CASK ALERT: Peak Organic IPA

Missed last week’s Peak Organic Brewing IPA cask at Taco Mac Decatur?  Here’s a second shot.  Be at Taco Mac Perimeter on Friday, 6/25 at 5pm.  A second will be tapped.

Peak Brewing makes organic beers.  Tasty organic beers.  Their most recent release is Summer Session Ale.  The recipe for this IPA came from North Shore Brew Club.  I like that.  Straight from the garage, or back deck.  The IPA tapping on Friday a cask conditioned version, poured from the beer engine.  Rob Lucente brewer at Peak describes the cask versions to have a bit more of the Amarillo citrus flavor expressed.

Ingredients

Hops — Simcoe, Amarillo, Nugget.  Dry hopped w/ Simcoe
