21st Amendment Watermelon Funk is back for another summer

21st Amendment Watermelon Funk

Back for another fun summer in the sun is 21st Amendment Watermelon Funk. The beer was first canned in June of last year.

The brewery’s Hell or High Watermelon Wheat making an appearance on shelves means warm weather is finally here. Prior to Watermelon Funk’s debut last year, the San Francisco based brewery had been “funking with greatness” in small batches. The now well-known Hell or High Watermelon Wheat beer was kettle soured Lactobacillus Planterum bacteria, resulting in the perfect complement to the slightly sweeter melon sibling.

…bright, tart, citrus notes, this beer finishes with a spicy farmhouse character from its French Saison yeast strain.

21st Amendment Watermelon Funk is brewed with 100% pure watermelon puree. Look for it nationally again in 12-ounce cans and draft for a limited time.

Style: American Sour/Wild Ale (w/ Watermelon)
Hops: Magnum
Malts: 2 Row, White Wheat

Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft.
Debut: June 2017
Latest Return: Late May 2018

Truly a beautiful beer. Odell Brazzle Sour Raspberry Ale is back for spring

Odell Brazzle Bottle

Odell Brazzle Sour Golden Raspberry Ale has reappeared at the brewery again today.

The base beer is a golden ale, soured in oak barrels used for Odell’s Woodcut offerings, with multiple wild yeasts for a full two years. 300 pounds of raspberries are looped into the process before and after the bacteria and yeasts do their thing.

This beer just bursts with fresh raspberry aromas that really burst with each sip as well. There’s a subtle tartness in the finish that is both playful and attention-grabbing. All in all, this truly is a biological beauty of a beer. Drink fresh, in the sun, and if you have them – friends.

“We used golden raspberries to brew with, which gives this sour a touch of sweetness. There is also a bright, tart fruit and citrus flavor that comes through. The sour acidity plays well with the raspberry flavor. This is a very unique sour, and WELL worth the wait!” – ” Barrel Aging/Pilot System Manager, Brent Cordle. “

Odell Brazzle is available in 750ml bottles and draft.

Style: American Wild Ale (w/ Barrel Aged. Raspberries.)
Availability: 750 ml bottles, Corked & Caged
Latest Return: Late March 2018

SweetWater Through the Brambles is out of the foeder again

SweetWater Through the Brambles 2018

SweetWater Through the Brambles was the inaugural release from the brewery’s multi-million dollar sour and wild ale expansion last year. The blackberry heavy ale truly set the tone for what was to come from the program. Its popularity is prompting a second release. .

PICS: SweetWater The Woodlands

SweetWater Through the Brambles is a sour ale brewed with blackberries that has spent 12 months aging in French oak. The result is something magical. We were wowed by the fresh peach flavor in Pit & the Pendulum. The blackberries in Brambles is equally as fresh and bright. The mixed culture of wild yeast and bacteria used here is the beginnings of the house culture, which is sure to become a superstar over time. The beer finishes with just a hint of tartness, and a touch of funk.

Through the Brambles and The Woodlands is just the beginning of a whole new era for the brewery. A strong lab program and a team of incredibly talented brewers will most assuredly turn these releases into household names in the next couple of years.

Rose in color with notes of blackberry, oak and some southern funk form the wild yeast and bacteria. Initially light bodied and slightly tart, this beauty will evolve with time.

SweetWater Through the Brambles will return again in new 375 milliliter bottles, just like 100% foeder beer Cambium.

Style: American Wild/Sour Ale (w/ Blackberries. Oak Aged.)
Availability:  500ml Bottles
Debut: January 2017
Latest Return: TBA

6.3% ABV

Off Color Brewing’s Miller High Life collaboration ‘Eeek!’ is back

Off Color Eeek!

Chicago, Illinois based Off Color Brewing brewed an interesting collaboration back in 2016 that you might find a little shocking. The craft brewer teamed up with MillerCoors – specifically the brewers of Miller High Life. In the David vs. Goliath world of craft brewing vs. macro brewing wasn’t ready for a collaboration like this. There were quite a few beer geeks were that overly butthurt by the team’s creation. If you couldn’t’ get emotionally passed it the first time, we have some bad news. Off Color Eeek! has returned.

That’s a bit “Off Color” right? As it turns out, the brewing teams of Miller & Off Color are good friends who have talked about this collaboration for years. In the summer of 2016, a collaboration finally happened. Honestly, this “macro” meets “craft” collaboration turned out to be pretty awesome.

The base beer uses Miller High Life ingredients – the same that have made the Champagne of Beers popular for years. Off Color used their funky, acidic mixed cultures in primary fermentation, then lagered it for three weeks. The final flourish is the bottle conditioning with Champagne yeast. (That last move might have been obvious.)

The result is actually a relatively complex American wild ale with a touch of the grainy undertones you’ll recognize as Miller High Life. Easily one of the most interesting collaborations we’ve ever seen in craft beer. The duo very LITERALLY created the Champagne of Wild Beers.

Off Color Eeek! (Batch 2) is available in 750-milliliter bottles in Chicago starting March 18th. Limited distribution is pending.

Style: American Wild Ale
Availability: 750ml Bottles
Latest Return: March 2018
