Magic Hat Howl Returns

Magic Hat ( Burlington, VT) has released their seasonal winter lager.  A black lager, with a roasty, dark, bold flavor.  Not every winter seasonal has to be an ale does it?

Commercial Description:
Born of dark and cold and snow in the marrow of the northeast’s longest night, HOWL comes in on wailing winds, with winter weary eyes burning holes in sunless shadows.  In it’s darkened depths out inner voids are warned.

Style: Schwarzbier
Hops: Apollo, Hallertau
Malts: Pale, Crystal, Carafa
Yeast: Lager

Taste Expectations: Bitter roasted coffee with a hint of chocolate. Smokey.  Consistent carbonation, balanced. Excellent style example.

NEW RELEASE: Magic Hat “Hex”

Magic Hat Brewing was recently acquired by North American Breweries.  That change hasn’t affected the brewing or the releases.  Replacing last year’s release “Roxy Rolles” is “Hex Ourtoberfest.”

Commercial Description:
“A malty amber ale with hints of toffee and caramel and a slightly smoky finish.”

Style: Amber/Red Ale

Hops: Apollo, Hallertaur
Malts: Pale, Vienna, Crystal, Cherry wood smoked malts, Malted Rye

Taste Expectations: Caramel malts. Light fruity notes, with some sweetness like brown sugar.  Slight smoke.

New in Bottle – Magic Hat’s Vinyl

Ok, its January but inevitably it was going to start.  Spring beers.   This one is a little early, but it has arrived none the less – Vinyl by Magic Hat Brewing.

Vinyl is an amber lager.  Here is the ingredient run down –

Malts – Pale, Crystal, Munich, & Victory.

Hops – Northern Brewer

Magic Hat’s Description –

Vinyl Lager is a beer with deep amber hue, sweet malt taste and slight balancing hop touch.  This beer is produced using a lager strain of yeast and is fermented low end of ale fermentation temperatures, allowing the beer to maintain its easy-drinking lager-like characteristics.

Vinyl is 5.1% ABV.   Available in 6 pks seasonally.  Confirmed at Hop City currently.
