Magic Hat Founder Creates Alchemy & Science
Alan Newman, founder of Magic Hat Brewing, has joined up with Jim Koch of Boston Beer to create Alchemy & Science. The 2 have been friends for years.
The venture is called a craft-brew incubator, or think tank, that will “find new opportunities in brewing. New recipes, techniques, reviving old recipes, etc. Stacy Steinmetz, also formerly of Magic Hat will be joining the team.
Alchemy & Science will be headquartered in Burlington, Vermont. It will be a subsidiary of Boston Beer.
…We decided Alchemy & Science should be a subsidiary of Boston Beer and that Alan should run it. I told him the mission should be to make great craft beer in any way, place or style that he thought made sense,” Koch added.

On hI.P.A.tus No More
Magic Hat Brewing’s hoppiest offering, hI.P.A., is back on shelves in 6-packs and in the Night of the Living Dead Variety 12-Pak.
We packed each batch with tons of Columbus hops during the brew. The resulting fumes made us a little silly and we then dry-hopped the brew with even more Columbus. The high amount of alpha acids in the hops lend their amazing bitterness to the beer, giving it a mouth puckering 70 IBUs and a heady, floral aroma. Pick up some hI.P.A. today, stare into the sweet Stanley Mouse creation on the label and proceed to get high on hops with the latest Magic Hat I.P.A. to go On Tour!
hI.P.A joins Hex, #9, and Humble Patience in th the 12 pack. Now available.
