Lazy Magnolia Has A Ginger Joining Brewer’s Choice

Lazy Magnolia Brewing (Kiln, MS) is adding another beer to their Brewer’s Choice Series – Ginger Jaque.  Jaque follows Gulf Porter in that lineup.

Ginger Jaque, the second release in Lazy Magnolia’s Brewer’s Choice Series, invokes the likeness of one of our premier international award winning amber rye ales (Amberjaque) spiced with a bold zest of ginger.  Brewed with carefully selected rye grains, traditional malts and hops, drinkers experience a heavy aroma of sweet ginger on the nose accompanied by a dry rye finish.  If you should find yourself amongst friends one chilly Winter’s eve, this brew will undoubtedly prove a warm and inspiring companion.

Style: Amber Ale w/ ginger
Availability:  If it follows the Gulf Porter release- it will 1/2 gallon growlers
Arrival: Mid-November, 2011

Expansion For Lazy Magnolia

Lazy Magnolia Brewing (Kiln, MS) is expanding 4 fold.  Lazy just received a $740,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.  The interest free loan can be repaid over the next 10 years.  This is part of a $3 million dollar expansion occuring over the next 4 years.

Lazy Magnolia Brewing was started by Leslie & Mark Henderson in 2003, with their first batches by 2005.  The two are engineers that got into brewing with a beer kit at Christmas.  In the first year, Lazy lost 80% of their business thanks to Katrina.  The brewery has steadily grown since.  By the end of this year, Lazy plans to max out at 15,000 barrels.  At the end of the expansion, total output will max at 50,000 barrels.  Expansion will triple employment (16 to 50) and double the building size.

Lazy Magnolia currently distributes to Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, and some of Georgia. Next up, North & South Carolina and Texas.

Beers include:  Southern Pecan (brewed with LA pecans), Southern Gold (local honey), Jefferson Stout (w/ sweet potatoes.) [ClarionLedger]

The “Beer Stimulus Bill” (H.R. 4278) was introduced last session of Congress, and was not acted on.  It will be introduced again this session.  Today, Nick Matt of FX Matt Brewing, Leslie Henderson of Lazy Magnolia Brewing, & Dan Kopman of Schlafly Brewing appeared on Fox & Friends to discuss the bill benefits.

Talking Points:
– Beer is heavily taxed by the U.S. Government ( Excise tax pre-sale, Retail)
– Small brewing employs 1 person per 1,000 barrels. ( 1 per 50,000 barrels macro)
– Small brewing makes 5% of the beer, employes 50% of the people
– Small Brewing has created 100,000 jobs in last 25 years
– The Beer Stimulus Bill would create more industry jobs
