Deschutes Shops Asheville, North Carolina

Deschutes Brewery (Bend, OR) is in Asheville, North Carolina this week, shopping. For what? A spot for their east coast brewery.

Deschutes President Michael LaLonde mentioned back in April that the craft brewery was shopping for an east coast build. Asheville, North Carolina, which is already home to breweries like Hi-Wire, Green Man, Highland, and Wicked Weed, has gained new neighbors from the west- Oskar Blues, Sierra Nevada, and soon, New Belgium.

Other spots considered include Greenville and Charleston, South Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee.

Currently, Deschutes ships to 28 states, and has told Beer Street Journal in the past that they are eyeing all 50 in the future.

The new brewery would come online in 2019.

Deschutes Collaborates with Brewdog in Scotland

Brewdog Deschutes Collaboration

Bend, Oregon’s Deschutes Brewery has recently been brewing with Scotland’s Brewdog. The two teams (seen above) created a new beer in the spirit of The Abyss – a “big bad imperial porter”.

The beer has yet to be named. No mention of any kegs coming to the United States at this time.

Deschutes Jubel Returns To Bottles, Five Years Early

Deschutes Jubel, aka “Super Jubel” was originally intended to be a once a decade beer. The brewery laments, they couldn’t wait another five years.

Jubel last appeared in bottles in 2010. “Super Jubel” got its start after a thief stole a heavy keg of Jubelale. Not realizing how heavy the keg was, and carrying it around in the cold Oregon winter, the thief abandoned it to freeze. What poured off was a more concentrated version Jubelale, prompting the brewing team to replicate the stronger offering. Not before aging it in pinot noir barrels.

Jubel 2015 is a multi-dimensional brew with a bigger, fuller take on the flavors found in Jubelale.

The 2015 edition is 50% aged in wine barrels, and new Oregon oak.

Deschutes Jubel will be available in 22oz bottles and draft across their distribution market in February, 2015, in limited quantities.

Malt: Pale, Special B, Crystal, Roasted Barley, Flaked Barley

Deschutes Pinedrops IPA, A Bottle Potential

Deschutes Pinedrops IPA

A previously draft-only offering from Deschutes Brewery looks to get a little bottle treatment in the future – Deschutes Pinedrops IPA.

As you can deduce from the name, Pinedrops IPA tastes a bit piney. A hoppy homage to the landscape near the brewery. Personally, I know some folks that have doted on this beer in the past.

This lively IPA delivers a crisp and light malt body with ample citrus and pine notes from Chinook and experimental hops. Inspired by the aromas and silence we experience when exploring the scenic pine forests just up the road from our brewhouse.

Deschutes Pinedrops IPA will be available in 12oz bottles as a part of the Bond Street Series. Other offerings in the series include Chasin Freshies, Foray, and Hop in the Dark.

Style: IPA
Hops: Millennial, Northern Brewer, Chinook, Centennial, Experimental
Malt: Pilsner, Pale, Munich, Crystal, Cara Pils

Availability: 12oz bottles, Draft.
Arrival: TBA

6.5% ABV
