Beer & Football: Foothills partners with Wake Forest
Foothills Brewing Company (Winston-Salem, NC) has partnered with Wake Forest University. The school will soon be selling the brewery’s beer lineup at select school events.
The partnership currently spans the next two years, commencing September 1st at Wake Forest University’s first home football game versus Tulane.
“We are extremely excited to offer Foothills beer at Wake Forest Athletic events this year, I grew up in Winston-Salem and have been a Deacon fan for as long as I can remember. I look forward to sharing a pint with fans during the season this year.” – Matt Masten, co-owner, Foothills Brewing
The partnership is part of Wake Forest University’s bigger initiative called ‘Made in Winston-Salem,’ designed by the Athletic Department to showcase local businesses on campus.
Hoppyum IPA & Carolina Blonde Cream Ale will be available at home football games, with seasonal and select brands throughout the stadium. Foothills Beer will be available at basketball games this fall as well.
Foothills Citra India Pale Ale is July’s highlight
Foothills Citra India Pale Ale is July’s Hop of the Month Series release.
Each beer in the series focuses on one particular hop flavor, giving it a solo spotlight for one month only. Some releases are pilsners, other pale ales. This month, the Foothills brewing team chose an India pale ale to show off the Citra hop – very similar to the tropical flavors found in Foothills Jade IPA.
A distinguished parentage of German, British and American hop varieties were bred to create Citra and its uniquely intense aroma profile — which makes the surprisingly smooth flavor contours of mango, citrus and subtle lemon notes all the more enjoyable.
Foothills Citra India Pale Ale is a 22 ounce bottle and draft offering for a limited time.
Style: IPA
Hops: Citra, German Tradition, Apollo.
Malts: Pilsner, Caramalt, Wheat
Availability: 22oz Bottles, Draft.
Debut: Mid-July, 2016

Foothills Dead and Berried (blackberry bourbon stout) coming late summer
Foothills Dead and Berried, an all new imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels with raspberries, is slated for August.
This year, the Foothills Barrel Aged Sexual Chocolate release was pushed up to spring. You have the barrels to thank for that. Because of this move, the brewery had a slot in the release schedule (August-September) that needed to be filled. 300 freshly emptied Buffalo Trace barrels recently came to the Foothill’s Winston-Salem, North Carolina home, for BA Sexual Chocolate and Barrel Aged People’s Porter. However, some barrels were left over.
That’s where Foothills Dead and Berried got started. The brewery created an all new imperial stout (different from the Sex chocolate base) last fall. That beer aged for a while on 420 pounds Oregonian blackberries. Then – bourbon barrels for over 5 months.
Up side? Another potentially fantastic barrel-aged beer from Foothills.
Downside? Foothills Dead and Berried will be draft only this time around. On draft at the brewery and brewpub, and the Denver Rare Beer Tasting this fall.
Style: Imperial Stout (w/ Blackberries. Barrel Aged. Bourbon.)
Availability: Draft Only
Debut: August, 2016
