The calculated risk of innovation has been a hallmark of Goose Island throughout its tenure as Chicago’s largest brewery, and was the driving force behind the development of the brewery’s coveted Bourbon County Stout. The recent lease of a new barrel warehouse on AB’s dime has allowed Goose Island to double the size of its barrel program and will soon lead to Bourbon County Stout being made available available year-round.

Goose Island Brewing is planning to begin distribution to Georgia sometime in the 4th quarter of 2012. (October – December.) Below is a tentative lineup of beers Georgia can expect at the initial rollout:
Fermented with wild yeasts and aged in wine barrels with orange peel, Sofie is a tart, dry, sparkling ale. A subtle, spicy white pepper note, a hint of citrus from the orange peel and a creamy vanilla finish make Sofie an intriguing choice for Champagne drinkers and beer drinkers who are fond of Belgian Saisons. Availability: 12/4 pks, Draft.
Wild in character, with a slightly fruity aroma … Read the rest
Goose Island’s latest muse is an Old Fashioned cocktail. This English Mild called En Passant will only be brewed once. It is the second installment of the Fulton & Wood series that will only be available in the Chicago area on draft. Brewed by Goose Island’s Joel, Keith, and Claudia, this ale was brewed with lots of rye and blood orange juice. The beer was made to pair well with rye whiskey and thus is low in alcohol content at about 4% ABV. The name, En Passant is French for “in passing” and is also a chess move that can only been used once in a game which matches this one time only brew well.… Read the rest
It’s no secret that Goose Island Brewing was purchased last year by beer giant Anheuser-Busch. As speculated, the acquistion was going to give Goose Island more brewing capacity (& more places to brew.) Prior to the purchase last year, I visited the production brewery. The brew house spends a good deal of time brewing 312 Wheat to keep up with demand. Post purchase, at least some of the 312 Wheat -specifically cans, are now being brewed in Baldwinsville, New York at one of the Budweiser facilities.
I have learned today from a reliable source that Goose Island has plans to rollout draft in Atlanta in Quarter 4. … Read the rest

Goose Island’s latest release, their Belgian Style Pale Ale, Lolita, ships today. Lolita is fermented with wild yeast and aged in wine barrels with raspberries giving it a pink color.
You might think this is a Russian style girly beer (a little Nabokov for you), but instead it is a very sophisticated Raspberry Belgian Ale. Fermented with brettanomyces (the little guys who give us that tart zing) and fresh raspberries, this brew is bright yet deep with spices and edges of the fruits natural tart quality to give it a white wine kind of finish.
Style: American Wild Ale (Raspberries, Barrel Aged)… Read the rest
