A New Goose Island Bourbon Country Variant

A new variant of Goose Island’s epic Bourbon County Brand Stout series is in the works. The now famous imperial stout aged in Templeton Rye bourbon barrels.

Templeton bourbon was first created in Templeton, Iowa during the prohibition era. in 2001, Scott Bush reintroduced the brand based on the prohibition area recipe. In 2007, Templeton Rye was first distributed outside of Iowa.

Goose Island Launches New Pale Ale

Kicking off a series of three limited release brews is Goose Island Ten Hills Pale Ale.

The name comes from Bonners Ferry, Idaho Elk Mountain Farms, the exclusive hop grower for Goose Island. The farm started with ten “hills” of hops and has grown to over 200,000 hills.

 “As craft beer drinkers’ palates shift toward hoppy beers, we want to highlight the creativity of the Goose Island brewing team and bring something distinctive to the drinker. Among craft beer connoisseurs, we’re already loved and lauded in the IPA style and these three new beers brewed with hops from Elk Mountain Farms will offer our fans even more to love from Goose Island.”

Look for this to arrive in 12oz bottles nationwide in December. Draft will arrive in March, 2014.

Style: Pale Ale
Hops: Perle, Cascade, Saaz
Flavor: “Apricot and tangerine aroma, tasting of sweet honey and toast and finishes with an earthy, herbal hop character. “

On Black Friday, November 29th, Goose Island will release plethora of Bourbon County beers and variants. Here is a quick look at what variants there are, how much, and more.

The original. Bourbon County Brand Stout – Available in all states. Where legal. (ABV limits)
Bourbon County Coffee Brand Stout – Brewed with Intelligencia coffee. 12oz/4pks, limited.
Bourbon County Barleywine – Barleywine aged in 3rd use barrels. 12oz/4 packs. Limited.
Proprietor’s Bourbon County Brand Stout – Chicago only. 22oz bombers. Toasted coconut, aged in rye whiskey.
Backyard Bourbon County Brand Stout – LIMITED. 22oz bombers. Three different berries, whiskey barrels.

Three Different Berries in this New Bourbon County

More variants surface from Goose Island Brewing. In addition the toasted coconut rye whiskey aged Bourbon County, expect this “backyard” offering.

Goose throws bosenberries, mulberries, and marionberries in the the signature imperials stout and aged it in rye whiskey barrels. This edition was inspired by the berries the brewers remember eating in their backyards growing up. Backyard Rye Bourbon County is a perfect back porch sipper.

A Coconut Bourbon County

Goose Island Brewing’s most highly sought after offerings would include anything that says Bourbon County on the label. The brewery takes an massive imperial stout and ages in (typically Heaven Hill) barrels for about a year or more. Beer geeks stand hours in line for it. Even fight over it.

In recent years, variants of this brew have surfaced. The Bourbon County line is now home to editions like Bourbon County Vanilla, Cherry Rye, Bourbon County Coffee, Barleywine and more.

Be sure to add this variant – Proprietor’s Bourbon County with coconut, aged in rye whiskey barrels. It sounds as tropical is it is dark, brooding, and delicious. This offering is coming in 22oz bottles in late November.
