Cigar City/Bruery Collab Revealed

It was mentioned last week that Cigar City Brewing & The Bruery were collaborating. Some artwork, a name and some details have surfaced.  The beer -“Dos Costas Oeste” is a saison.  Translation: Two West Coasts. (Bruery in Cali, Cigar City on Florida’s west coast in Tampa.) The saison is brewed with coriander, ginger, and sweet orage peel.  Aged on cedar spirals.

Dos Costas Oeste is the result of a collaborative brewing effort between Cigar City Brewing of Florida’s Gulf (West) Coast and The Bruery of Placentia, CA.  Like the breweries involved with its creation, this ale cheerfully meanders off the beaten path.  Join us in celebrating this West Coast to West Coast collaboration

Since this release is brewed and bottled by CC, the beer will be available in the current Cigar City distribution channels.  (Florida, Alabama, & soon to be Georgia once the new brewhouse is completed.)  Dos Costas is already in the tanks. Interestingly, judging by the photo CC posted about this beer on Facebook – they called this Collab I.  Leads me to believe there is potentially another in the works.

Style: Saison

Availability: 750ml bottles, tap room draft?

Arrival: TBA

Details: Ommegang’s Spiced Saison

Brewery Ommegang will be releasing a new saison this July in honor to Belgian Independence Day.  The brewers at Ommegang decided it was time to celebrate the day Belgium sent the Dutch packing.  For the July celebration, the brewery will be teaming up with fine restaurants across the U.S. to bring this special saison to you the beer drinker, paired with Belgian inspired dishes.

What better way to celebrate the season and Belgian independence day that with a saison?  Our Spiced Saison is a toast to the great brewers of Belgium and the pround history they represent.  We have used a Wallonia saison strain of yeast that produces fruity esters and classic earthy notes in the beer.  Lemon peel, white pepper, coriander along with Grains of Paradise are use to give the saison a delicate yet satisfactory spicing.  The departure from our signature house yeast reveals the versatility of the Saison style, and showcases the unique and intriguing characters of this strain

Style: Saison

Hops: Stryian Golding, GR Select
Malts: Pils, Pale, Caramel-20, White Wheat, Oats
Spices: Coriander, Grains Of Paradise, Lemon Peel, White Pepper

Avery Brewing’s 5 Yeast Rye Dry Hopped Celebration

Avery Brewing
turns 18 years old this year.  That means it’s time again for the brewery’s anniversary beer.  Looks like the saison is back for 2011.  Last year’s style was a schwarzbier, while 16th was also a saison.  This years dry-hopped Eighteen boasts 5 yeasts!

Label:
For this year’s celebratory brew, we decided to focus on the characteristics that certain yeasts bring to the party.  Each of the five Belgian yeasts selected adds it’s own unique aspect to the flavor and aroma of this saison.  The hefty addition of rye helps dry this beauty out and lends another spicy component to the flavor.  And for the added fun, we subtly dry-hopped it too!  Take your time and smell and taste the complexities that EIGHTEEN has to offer.  Many thanks to all for your support throughout the years.  EIGHTEEN already??

Style: Saison
Availability: 22oz bombers, draft.  Bottled in May, 2011
Arrival: TBA

8.1% ABV
