Hell’s Bells: Lost Abbey Track #3

Lost Abbey Track #3

The Lost Abbey releases Track #3 of their ongoing Ultimate Box Set this Saturday. The beer, shown briefly in this video, is a blend of two barrels of Mellow Yellow, and Phunky Duck (a base beer in the blend that becomes Duck Duck Gooze.

Liner Notes

The beer is a blend of some our favorite components. The clean lactic notes from Mellow Yellow combined with the heavier earthy twang we get from the Phunky Duck barrels. It’s a non fruited blond sour which if you take into account our successes with Isabelle, Cable Car and Duck Duck ought to be enough to have people lining up like it’s Black Friday in March.

The Album Art and Text

The majestic bell tower is all that remains of this Gothic cathedral. Somehow, it escaped the ravages of wars and continues to weather the centuries of neglect. Shrouded in a fog of mystical wonder, the Devil maintains it for his personal playground. At dusk, Lucifer emerges to dance between the shadows of a silvering moon as he returns to the bell tower launching a cadence for the newly departed. Gong… Gong… Gong echoes the bell in a Satanic trance as a chorus of bats take flight from the tower-like thunder consuming the silence. For centuries the nearby townspeople have tried to unravel the mysteries of the bell tower only being left to conclude it is haunted. For the wind, they cannot make a Bell Toll like that. But the Devil can and nightly he conducts a Requiem for the souls he has acquired. Shhh… Listen quietly! You can almost hear it now…

Lost Abbey Track #2: Stairway To Heaven

The second release of Lost Abbey’s Ultimate Box Set Series releases this Saturday, February 18th, 2012.

The Beer:
From the Remixed Tracks, this is a blend of Cuvee from bourbon barrels blended into The Angel’s Share (bourbon) with peaches and topped off with Project X (our wild fermentation project) to balance the peaches’ sweetness with some acidity. The blend proportions are 60% Angel’s Share, 20% Cuvee de Tomme and 20% Project X.

ABV: 12.5%

Backstory (Liner Notes):

You ever wonder how we’re going to know for sure which Stairway might actually lead us towards heaven?  At Rapture, God’s probably going to roll out some bunk ass rickety rope ladder as one last test of our faith based resolution and seemingly an absolute confirmation for inclusion in his Kingdom.

Devious Satan will unveil his own stairway for us. Under a storm of panic like a captain trolling for lost souls, he’ll take delight harvesting a bounty of smelted riches from that sea of chaos. Baiting a simple blinking neon sign announcing the doors to heaven are open will have the ignorant and sinful gulping the tasty treats of his “easy” step Escalator to Heaven. Upon reaching Faux Heaven, St Peter won’t be there overseeing GSA Angels and their full soul body scanners for souls. For they choose poorly once again revealing all the shame and sin!

Oh the horror, enjoy the Golden Glistening Plunge…

Release: Each individual track release is limited to 350 bottles, so they won’t make distribution. Bottles will be for sale only in the brewery tasting room and must be consumed onsite – no take away. Additionally, these beers are available strictly on a first come, first serve basis; no reservations will be accepted.

Lost Abbey’s “Runnin’ With The Devil” Arrives Saturday

20120119-165855.jpgLost Abbey’s Ultimate Box Set Track #1 “Runnin with the Devil” arrives Saturday.  An ode to Van Halen’s 1978 track.

This Saturday, January 21, 2012 will mark the release of the first track in our ultimate Box Set, kicking off a year-long series of super-limited beer releases inspired by those great anthem rock tunes of our youth. (Feel free to wave your lighters in the air… for you younger kids that’s what we waved at the concert before cell phones with big screens.)

Lost Abbey Gets Into (Rare) Music Themed Releases

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Get ready to crank the stereo up to 12. In January 2012, The Lost Abbey will begin a year-long series of special edition beer releases inspired by classic rock anthems invoking Heaven and Hell. Each month the brewery will release one new beer, culminating in December with a complete boxed gift set of all twelve. Each “track” released will be limited to a total of 450 bottles and available exclusively in the brewery’s tasting room.

Three Collections
The Box Set releases are divided into three collections of four titles each:

  • Re-Masters — Barrel-aged spins of The Lost Abbey mainstays
  • Re-Mixes — New blends created from The Lost Abbey archives
  • Fresh Tracks — All new beers brewed specifically for Box Set

Each release will be offered in a 375ml corked, hood-and-wire format and include its own original art. Beers will represent the full gamut of The Lost Abbey’s signature stylings, including fruit and spiced beers, wood-aged brews, sours, wild, and spontaneously-fermented ales.

Tasting Room Only
Because of the extremely limited nature of these beers, there will be no general distribution of Box Set releases. Individual tracks, priced at $15 each, will be available exclusively in the brewery tasting room on a first come, first serve basis and will be required to be opened and consumed on premises to prevent unauthorized re-distribution. Empty bottles may be taken off premises but will include measures to prevent counterfeit re-packaging.

The first track, an ode to Van Halen’s 1978 anthem, “Runnin’ With The Devil”, is scheduled for release January 21, 2012. Details will be available on The Lost Abbey website in mid January.

Subsequent tracks will be released the third Saturday of each month throughout the year, culminating in the release of the full 12-bottle packaged gift set in early December.
