Start Getting In Line, Pliny The Younger Returns 2/3/12

In a new blog post, Russian River mentioned the first time they will see one of the most sought after beers in the world – Pliny The Younger.

One quick thing about Pliny the Younger- we will be releasing it at the pub on February 3, 2012. It will be available for 14 days, no growlers, we are not bottling it, and it will be distributed in limited amounts as usual. I will provide more later as it gets closer, but that is all the information available right now! So no need to email us as we don’t know anything else at this time. We haven’t even made it!

Draft only, released at the pub.  Anyone selling it online, or trading for it is ripping you off.

Heretic Brewing Starts Bottling Evil Cousin

Heretic Brewing (Pittsburg, CA) is about to start rolling out some of their first bottles.  The brewery just open it’s doors this year.  Beers include Evil Cousin, Evil Twin, and Taflebully .

Label:
Evil Cousin is Heretic’s take on a West coast imperial IPA.  This beer is a bold, in-your-face hop monster.  It has a light, easy drinking malt character that allows the hops to stand out.  The hop character in this beer is intentionally on the dank side; big, sticky, and aggressive.  This beer is for those of you who can’t get enough hops. Join us on the dark side.Style: Imperial IPA

Availability: 22oz bombers, Draft

8% ABV

Marin Preps For Wet Hops

Tim Sciascia, brewer at Marin Brewing Company (maker of Moylan’s) recently took a trip with other members of the staff to HopsMeister Hop Farm in California in search of organic, wet, fresh hops to brew with.  The farm started 4 years ago in Oregon & Washington and has grown considerably in acreage since then.

Cascade, Columbus, Chinook, & Horizon vines run as much as 15 feet high.  Marin bought hops and had them immediately picked and taken back to Novato, California to brew with as fast as possible.  Fresh hopped brews have been a growing trend over the past few years, a brew that is time critical.  Fresher the hop the better.  While some breweries ship their fresh hopped pales and IPAs, some keep them very local.

The 1st of 3 casks tap today.  Three Flowers & Marin IPA will tap over the next week.    With the left over hops, Marin hints a potentially wet hopping a favorite. Like Moylander IPA. [LarkspurPatch]

Karl Strauss Big Barrel Double Returns Today

Karl Strauss Brewing’s  Big Barrel Double IPA returns today.  Big Double was the first in the Coastal Reserve Series.  This beer is an intense hop experience.

When we kicked off this series of intense hoppy beers, we wanted to go big. Imported New Zealand Nelson Sauvin hops provide a vibrant tropical aroma that raises eyebrows and expectations. Aggressive amounts of Warrior and Ahtanum hops produce an assertive bitterness that stands out against a firm malt backbone. Balanced even at 90 IBUs, Big Barrel leaves a considerable first impression that serves as a prelude of things to come.

Style: Imperial IPA
Hops:  Warrior, Ahtanum, Nelson Sauvin
Malts:  Maris Otter, Caramel 10, Ashburne Mild
Yeast: Chico

Availability: 22oz bombers, Draft

9% ABV, 90 IBUs
