SweetWater Mean Joe Bean Hits

SweetWater Brewing’s latest beer from the side project/experimental/one off/reserve/specialty series has shipped.   Bombers are hitting shelves, with draft not far behind.  A special release party is headed your way too for those near Atlanta.

Mean Joe Bean is a hat tilt to the famous footballer Mean Joe Green.  SweetWater & their real gift from writing describes this beer
“Rodger the Dodger and his Imperial Porter bone offense didn’t stand a bat wing’s chance once we dipped our Nicaraguan bean sack through his facemask! We blindsided his 8.5% Alc/Vol jock strap back to the fields to pick more beans, resulting in this Immaculate con-Catch-tion of intense forearm shivers of chocolate malt, a body like the Bus and blitzes of gridiron hops, all clothes lined by intense coffee overtones. It’s so good that you’ll need your terrible towel to wipe the tears”

Release Party:
On Friday, March 4th, 2011 a release party will be held at Deckard’s American Tavern in downtown Atlanta.  The party will feature  Mean Joe Bean, both on draft and and beer engine.  The “Dirty Nekkid” coffee that was used in beer will be available for those wanting to compare.  Party kicks off at 6:30 pm.  Expect some specialty glassware giveaways, and a drawing for Brew Your Cask Off tickets.

Availability: 22oz Bombers, draft. 1 time Dank Tank release. (for now)

8.5% ABV

HAVE A BEAN AND A SMILE!

MEAN JOE BEAN DEBUTS AT DECKARD’S AMERICAN TAVERN

SweetWater Brewery’s Dank Tank Unleashes THIS FRIDAY — March 4th at 6:30 pm

ATLANTA — Football season never ends at SweetWater, hence the release of Mean Joe Bean, a bean-to-beer experiment and the latest in the rarely released randomness dubbed their Dank Tank series. These creations emerge from SweetWater’s dark side — brewed only when the itch gets so bad, they just have to scratch it – and they are few and far between.

Mean Joe Bean will be available in 22 ounce bottles and on draft. But, Brewniversity fans need to act fast because this will be off the field before you know it, with only the jersey off its back as a souvenir; it is the perfect pint for the porter drinker and coffee lover in all of us. The first “75” guests to order a Mean Joe Bean at Deckard’s American Tavern on Friday, March 4th beginning at 6:30pm will get a limited edition Dank Tank unique stemmed glass, and SweetWater will have a unique cask version of Mean Joe Bean from head brewer Nick Nock poured through the beer engine that night as well.

Staying true to their local roots, SweetWater brewers partnered with Atlanta coffee favorites JavaVino, located in the Highlands, to create this Imperial Porter brewed with coffee beans. This coffee and wine house brings in their signature coffee from Nicaragua and is produced by co-owner Heddy Kühl’s family. The Kühl Family picks the coffee beans, exports, imports, roasts and brews them right in Atlanta. For more on JavaVino and their sixth generation family coffee farm visit www.javavino.com. Steve and Heddy will be onsite at Deckard’s American Tavern with their “Dirty Nekkid Lady” coffee which was used in the brewing process.

As the name suggests, the tale of this beer is legendary. As their creative sense of history touts, “Rodger the Dodger and his Imperial Porter bone offense didn’t stand a bat wing’s chance once we dipped our Nicaraguan bean sack through his facemask! It’s so good that you’ll need your terrible towel to wipe the tears.”

And speaking of craft beer, join SweetWater Brewing Company March 5th for their second annual Brew Your Cask Off. Visitwww.brewyourcaskoff.com for info and tickets. SweetWater will also be giving away two passes to this year’s Brew Your Cask Off during their MJB launch party — drawing for the passes will be at 8pm, but don’t sweat it if you don’t win the passes, there will be other goodies given away from the brewery celebrating their newest beer throughout the night. No reservations necessary, strap on your helmet and we’ll see you at Deckard’s American Tavern.

Deckard’s American Tavern is located at 650 Ponce De Leon Avenue, #800B, Atlanta, GA 30308. For more information call 404-941-3520 or visit www.kitchenandkegs.com.

COMING SOON: SweetWater “Mean Joe Bean”

The next up in SweetWater Brewing’s Dank Tank is an imperial porter dubbed “Mean Joe Bean”.  The peeps over at SweetWater are keeping it local by using coffee from Java Vino in Poncey-Highlands in Atlanta.   JavaVino is not your usual coffee house.  They are the “evolution of the traditional coffee house”.  JV combines two beverage flavor adventures under one roof – coffee & wine.

JavaVino offers coffee & wines all over the world and boasts a true “seed-to cup experience”.  Their favorite beans are grown by Heddy Kühl the co-owner’s family in Nicaragua.  The Kühl Family picks the coffee beans, exports, imports, roasts and brews them on site at Java Vino.

SweetWater and Java Vino are bringing you a  true bean-to beer experience.  The beans in Mean Joe Bean are from JV’s “Dirty Nekkid” series, specifically – “Dirty Nekkid Man”.  Dubbed “Nekkid” (the Southern derivation of “naked”) because  the natural sugar isn’t stripped off the beans in the natural process.  The result is a semi-sweet, bold cup off coffee.

Something even more interesting about this new Dank Tank release is that the beans were actually soaked in the whirlpool for about 5 minutes, really enhancing the coffee flavor.  I’m already thirsty for it.

Style: Imperial Porter

Arrival: February 2011

SweetWater’s Border Hopper Arrives!

The most recent creation in SweetWater Brewing’s “Dank Tank” is popping up.  “Border Hopper” is an imperial IPA brewed using citra hops that have recently become popular. SweetWater hopped this beer with fresh hops from the heart of hop territory in the U.S. – Yakima, Washington.

Commercial Description:
Border Hopper, with a little help from their friend, Señor Dank, who left his wife, Lupa, and their eight screaming babies in search of the freshest hop harvest in the land and the promise fields of Buford Highway.  His censored journey began in the hop fields of Yakima where he scored some of the stickiest, freshest green hops, found a farmer’s daughter, and ended up in Atlanta where he deals his stash to us boys at SweetWater to create this highly aggressive, censored, and muy fresh double India pale ale.

This brew is pushing the envelope as our newest addition to the series of rarely released, experimental beers. The double IPA, brewed with fresh Citra hops, is 8.6 percent ABV, comes in 22 ounce bottles and on draft and is best served fresh.  But act fast because this stash won’t last forever.  Just like that rash you got in Tijuana, the Border Hopper will be gone just as soon as the next brewing itch needs to be scratched.

Beer Rundown:
Style: Imperial IPA
Hops: Fresh citra

Taste Expectations: Hops give the beer a pineapple, & citrus.  Almost tropical fruit flavor. Light malts sweeten the deal a bit, making this a very aggressive, hoppy, delicious IPA.

Availability: 22oz bombers.  Draft.  One time limited Dank Tank release.

8.6% ABV
