Nebraska’s Microbe Rue Release

The next experimental beer in Nebraska Brewing Company’s Inception Series will debut this Saturday called Microbe Rue.  The beer will be available in 22oz bottles and only 18 cases are being released to the public.  Microbe Rue took the Nebraska brewers two full years to brew and age.

What is it you ask?  Two years ago Nebraska Brewing made a Holiday beer that was a Belgian Dubbel with Belgian Candy Sugar, cinnamon, and Nebraska City Cherry Juice.  Back then, they poured some of this beer into a brand new Missouri Oak barrel and tucked it away until a couple of weeks ago when they pulled it out and bottled it.  It is now known as Microbe Rue.

Napa Smith Hopageddon, A Post-ahopalyptic Beer

Napa Smith Brewing (Napa, CA) is soon to release Hopageddon, a barrel aged imperial IPA.  It truly is a Hopageddon, as this imperial IPA not only wet-hopped, but aged in Chardonnay & Cabernet barrels.

Hopageddon is an end-of-the-world imperial IPA that defies expectations and induces an intense hop-stupor that will leave you wondering what just happened.  At 144 IBUs, Hopageddon glows with a gorgeous fiery orange color and showcases a distinct, full white head.  The added character given by the Chardonnay and Cabernet barrels accentuates explosive papaya and lychee flavors along with herbaceous aromas.  Chewy, grassy, wet-hop flavors, hints of dried apricot, and impressions of barrel tannins are evident in mutiple layers. The distinct Barrel-hopped flavors and shockwave of bitterness lingers on the palate and leaves hopheads with a Post-ahopalyptic yearning for more.

Style: Imperial IPA (barrel aged)
Hops: Chinook, Cascade, Warrior, Columbus, Mt. Hood, Centennial

Availability: Draft only, 5.2 gal kegs
Arrival: Nov-Dec, 2011

9.2% ABV, 144 IBUs

Mother Earth Silent Night ’11 Release Deets

The 2011 release of Mother Earth Brewing’s Silent Night Imperial Stout is 12/1/11.   Night is a bourbon barrel aged imperial stout that just might rival others you may have had before.  This years edition has a bit of a twist – coffee.  Specifically Counter Culture Coffee.

Counter Culture Coffee tweaked their classic 1922 Mocha & Java blend just for us to give Silent Night an even more pronounced note of rich dark chocolate. For added body, richness, and complexity, we also mixed in Counter Culture’s sweet, heirloom Jagong coffee from northern Sumatra. Four pounds of savory beans went in each 20bbl batch. They were rough ground and steeped in the whirlpool for an hour.

Silent night just left the barrels last week, where it’s been since September.  It will be bottled next week, 750ml bottles corked/caged.

There are 2 release parties:

11/30/11 – Beasley’s Chicken + Honey in Raleigh, NC

12/1/11 – Tap Room in Kingston, North Carolina.

Style: Imperial Stout, Barrel Aged
Availability: 750ml bottles. Draft.  Winter Seasonal

9% ABV
