Imported From Detroit: Atwater Brewery Expanding

Atwater Brewery LogoDetroit’s Atwater Brewery has officially announced an expansion that will double their capacity.  The brewery will push production from 7,500 barrels (232,500 gallons) to 15,000 barrels (465,000) in 2012.  But wait, there’s more.  Act now, and the brewery will double it’s capacity in 2013!  That’s quadruple the production capacity for the low price of (probably millions of dollars.)  A cost is not mentioned in the expansion plans.

Atwater had orders for 50% more than they were producing in 2011.  In January, the brewery added 4 new tanks.  That will aid in increasing output by 400% over last year’s levels.  The brewery runs wide open 18 hours a day to meet demand.

Currently, the brewery sells 60% of it’s beer in Michigan.  The remaining goes to PA, OH, IL, and parts of New England.  Atwater launched a canning line early last year, and has seen success in the move.  Over 20 different beer styles are produced by the brewery each year.

Good news for workers too.  The expansion will add up to 25 more positions through 2015.  Check out the PR for some technical details & more.   [PressRelease]

I think Eminem needs to do a beer commercial for Detroit…

The brewery’s $52 million dollar expansion is moving along nicely.  The new brewery should be open by May, 2012. From Bell’s:

Our $52 million construction and expansion is coming along here in Galesburg. Our brewing vessels have been unwrapped and the spent grain silo has been assembled. Crews are busy assembling all the piping and wiring necessary to get our new 200-barrel brewhouse up and running. Local woodworkers are also busy working on the handrails, banisters, front entrance and many other details for the new addition that will compliment existing features at the Eccentric Cafe in downtown Kalamazoo. The lumber they are working with is locally grown as well. We anticipate opening our new brewery in May.

About Oberon:

Bell’s Oberon is a wheat ale fermented with Bell’s signature house ale yeast, mixing a spicy hop character with mildly fruity aromas. The addition of wheat malt lends a smooth mouthfeel, making it a classic summer beer.

Style: American Pale Wheat Ale
Availability: 12 oz bottles, Draft. Mini-keg cans. (Chubbies)
Arrival: Late March, 2012 (Summer Seasonal)

5.8% ABV

Thanks to Brewdog’s Equity For Punks program, the brewery has broken ground on their new brewery.    The new site is at the 3.6 acre site at Balmacassie purchased by BrewDog last year.  Only one of these acres will be developed for now leaving lots of room for future expansion when needed.  There will be 25 new jobs created immediately with the new location, but eventually 50+ more will be added over the next five years.  Also, the deal for the new brewhouse has been finalized as well.  The German company Rolec (who also did work for StoneLagunitasBrooklyn, and more) has been selected.

Pics below come via the brewery as James and Martin try to get a little involved with the heavy lifting.

Stevens Point Tacking on 3 Million Gallons

Stevens Point Brewing LogoStevens Point Brewery is embarking on their 3rd expansion in the brewery’s history.  The $1.1 million dollar expansion is designed to keep up with the demand.

New equipment:
Nine new fermentation tanks, two new bright beer tanks, a new 7,000-gallon hot water tank and a centrifuge for filtering finished beer.  The brewmasters will be able to brew 6 days a week instead of 5.

Total Expansion:  120,000 barrels
(or 3,720,00o gallons of beer.)  That’s a 20% increase.

Previous Expansions:
$2.6 millon dollars has been investing in Stevens Point since 2009.

“Last year we added 6,600 square feet of warehouse space, five aging tanks and three fermentation tanks to bring our brewing capacity up to 100,000 barrels per year,” Martino said. “In 2010, we built a 2,700-square-foot addition to expand our keg cooler room and add four aging tanks. “We have our loyal customers to thank for our continued success, and as our sales continue to grow, we’ll continue to expand our capacity to keep up with the demand,” Martino added. “We’ve still got plenty of room to grow and we fully intend to do so.”

The first piece of equipment will be installed by the end of February.  [PressRelease]

BrewDog New Brewery Begins Construction This Month

With the help of Equity for Punks BrewDog has selected a winning bid, Mansell, who will begin construction on the new brewery on Monday, February 27th.  Mansell has given early July as an estimated completion time for the new building.  This means equipment will be installed in August, commissioning in September, and brewing by October or November.

The new brewery is being built at the 3.6 acre site at Balmacassie purchased by BrewDog last year.  Only one of these acres will be developed for now leaving lots of room for future expansion when needed.  There will be 25 new jobs created immediately with the new location, but eventually 50+ more will be added over the next five years.  Also, the deal for the new brewhouse has been finalized as well.  The German company Rolec (who also did work for Stone, Lagunitas, Brooklyn, and more) has been selected.  The image above shows the layout for the new brewhouse.

Another note, BrewDog Nottingham should be opening around February 25th.  BrewDog Leeds has signed their paperwork.  BrewDog Newcastle will begin work later this week.
