Leon’s Full Service is tearing it up. In addition to Southern Tier’s Choklat, Leon’s has Founder’s 2010 pouring.

The beer that is the precursor to both Kentucky Breakfast Stout, and Canadian Breakfast Stout is making it’s seasonal return, simply – Breakfast Stout. This double chocolate coffee oatmeal imperial stout is brewed once a year by Founder’s Brewing (Grand Rapids, MI) and this year is as delicious as ever.
Commerical Description: The coffee lover’s consummate beer. Brewed with an abundance of flaked oats, bitter and imported chocolates, and Sumatra and Kona coffee, this stout has an intense fresh roasted java nose topped with a frothy, cinnamon-colored head that goes forever.
Style: Imperial Stout
Taste Expectations: Coffee and chocolate of course. Roasted malts. Slightly sweet, this beer literally is a rich, roasty, treat. Alcohol is hidden.

2010 Nemesis details –
“The 2010 release of Nemesis is best described by our brewing team as “a dark barley wine that pours black with a subtle mahogany hue. Brewed with 5 malts and no shortage of hops for a pleasantly bitter booming flavor. Roasty and toasty with a multitude of tastes that melts on your tongue”. – Founders”

Seems like Founder’s 2009 edition of Nemesis – a maple bourbon barrel aged wheat wine at 12% ABV was just here months ago. Well, last night I heard a rumor (while sitting at a bar, go figure) about 2010 details already surfacing. Finally, a friend of the brewery pointed me over to The Wine and Cheese Place which confirmed the rumors.

Tapping tonight at Cypress Street for Beer Geek Tuesday is a RARE keg of Founder’s Black Biscuit. Black Biscuit is an barrel aged dark/black ale. Sound good yet? You’d be hard pressed to find someone that has had it that didn’t love this beer.
Description – So I called Founder’s to get more info on Black Biscuit. Lots of Biscuit malt was used in this brew. It is aged in regular bourbon barrels, with molasses added. Black Biscuit has been described as a cross between a black ale and a baltic porter.
Taste Expectations – Oak, Chocolate, coffee, vanilla and alcohol. Molasses and chocolate in the finish. Lots of flavors to sort out. Complex, and fascinating.

Michigan sour cherries are quickly making a name for themselves in beer. The cherry flavor and sour notes make them blend very well in beer. There are a few beers on the shelves now using them, and they are nothing short of incredible. Founder’s Cerise is brewed right in the heart of sour cherry territory – Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Cerise is a fruit/vegetable beer chock full of cherries. 53 lbs in fact. Harvested from Benton Harbor, Coloma, Grand Rapids and Traverse City. The cherries are added at 5 different stages of fermentation in order to achieve a perfect balance of sour cherry and malt palette. Cerise has a big malt bill to compliment the cherries, caramel being notable. Cerise has a sweet, crisp mouthfeel.
Ingredients? Still searching.
6.5% ABV
15 IBU’s (not bitter at all!)
Availability – Seasonally during the late spring/summer in 12oz/4 pks and some draft offerings.
Yeah small batch releases seem to be all the rage these days. Some find it frustrating. I find it fun. The next small batch beer is floating around Georgia, waiting to be spotted. It’s Founder’s Kentucky Breakfast Stout, or KBS.
KBS is an Imperial Stout brewed with coffee and vanilla and aged in oak bourbon barrels for a full year. Chocolate is also added. The official release day is as close to the Ides of March as possible (March 15th.) For Founder’s the closest day to party is Saturday, March 13th – and of course the party is planned. If you aren’t lucky enough to make it to Michigan, you can have a bit of your own launch party here in Atlanta. Savannah Distributing – the distributor of choice by Founder’s is already hinting at sightings in Georgia, emphasizing its small batch limitations.
