Calfkiller & Budweiser Resolve Issues

Bell’s Cuts Ribbon On Big Brewhouse

Bell’s Brewery officially cut the ribbon to their new brewery today.  The new space can produce 500,000 barrels of beer annually. (15,500,000 gallons.)

All of us here at Bell’s are very excited to open the doors of this brand new facility to our friends, family, business partners and community.

This new brewhouse reflects not only the hard work of our employees at Bell’s, but the 400 skilled trade people that worked tirelessly over the past two years to create a space that is not only functional, but beautiful. It is a reflection of our community and its creativity, initiative and skill,” said Laura Bell, Marketing Director at Bell’s.

Bell’s new production facility includes an expanded grain handling facility, a 200-barrel brewing system, new fermentation vessels and a sophisticated energy storage system that will continue and enhance Bell’s commitment to sustainability.

The facility has the potential to produce 500,000 barrels annually.

Almost all of the components were made in the USA and lumber for the brewhouse entryway (doors, banisters and railing) was grown, sawed, kilned and finished locally.

Anderson Valley’s New Packaging Highlights “Barkley”

Anderson Valley Brewing has recently completed an artwork makeover for some of their packaging.  Of course there were bears on the labels before, but now you get a closer look at the iconic animal.

“Our new packaging reflects our unique heritage and the legendary Boonville Beer (the iconic bear with antlers, affectionately known as Barkley), while staying true to our desire to innovate in all aspects of our brands.  We’re still brewing the same authentic, hand-crafted, quality beers you’ve come to expect from Anderson Valley, only now with a new look. Find us at your favorite retailers, better beer bars, or wherever fine craft beer is sold.”

Below is some of the new artwork.

More Dock Street & Four Seasons Hotel Philly Collabs

Four Seasons Hotel understands the beer lover’s need for special, limited edition, and collaborative brews.  That’s why they have partnered with Philadelphia’s Dock Street Brewing to create “A Beer Four All Seasons.”  Each beer is sold exclusively in the hotel’s Swann Lounge.

The first release was Truffled Old Ale.  The second arrived in arrived in April, called Caliente Golden Ale.  Brewed with blue agave nectar, then aged for a few weeks on guajillo and ancho chilies.

A summer beer arrives in time for Philly Beer Week in June, and of course another in Autumn.  Each beer will use herbs and fruits from hotel’s rooftop garden.  [FourSeasons]

Calfkiller & Budweiser Resolve Issues

Last week, Calfkiller Brewing got into a kerkuffle with Anheuser-Busch.  The small Tennessee brewery purchased kegs from various auctions, and brewery closures to use in production.  Sounds good right? Not until Anheuser-Busch goes in to reclaim their kegs.

It’s easy to see both sides of this issue.  Calfkiller buys used kegs from what they consider legit sources.  A-B says “hey! That’s stolen property bro!”  The attempt to take back the supposedly “stolen” kegs ruffled the feathers of Calfkiller.

The brewery [Calfkiller] announced over the weekend that the issue has been resolved.  They will not lose any kegs after this incident.

We are very pleased to announce the keg issue with Budweiser has been resolved, and we are losing NO KEGS! Thank you fans for your support, and THANK YOU BUDWEISER!!

Good to see things can be worked out amicably.

In-store tasting of One Screw Loose Jams, Jellie & Rubs. We met Chopper and the gang from One Screw Loose several months ago and immediately recognized genius, in spreadable form. They have perfected the art of rubs, jams and all things gelatinous, featuring Jailhouse brewery beer jellies, and all of the delicious flavors that you expect w/ a unique twist. We’ll be pairing some of our local cheeses and charcuterie here in the shop from 5:30-7:30. Spread some delicious love.
Wednesday

We’ll have Randy Dempsey from O’Dempsey’s and Kevin Fox from Heavy Seas in the shop as we celebrate a collaborative cask that these mad scientists brewed a couple of months back. This particular concoction is a Lemongrass IPA, aged on Sycamore that is sure to be delicious. Casks are smaller vessels for beer (~10 gallons) that impart a ‘softer’ carbonation as the beer is naturally fermented in the cask, so growler fills will need to be consumed the day they are poured, but that shouldn’t be a problem as we know that a 1/2 gallon of this sucker will go down like water. We’ll have other kegs from both breweries available for growler fills as well. Join us from 6-8pm as we tap what is sure to be another epic experiment from these boys.
Thursday

Locals only tap takeover. We’re gonna celebrate this week with some of our favorite offerings from our local breweries. We’ve held a couple of special kegs for a spell (Wild Heaven Ode to Mercy Special Winter, Jailhouse Experimental Saison, etc…) and all 12 taps will be local.

Green Flash’s Rayon Vert Hits 22oz Bottles

Green Flash Brewing launched Rayon Vert in March in 12 oz bottles.  The Belgian pale ale is bottled with brettanomyces yeast (an infamous flavor changing yeast) and has been a big hit.  Now, Green Flash is giving the beer some bomber treatment.

If Green Flash were founded in historical Belgium, Rayon Vert would have been our flagship brew. A bold layering of hops finds balance from traditional malts. Bottle conditioning with fresh ale yeast and Brettanomyces finishes the beer, adding a delightful effervescence, dryness and continuously evolving character. Rayon Vert is Green Flash.

Style: Belgian Pale Ale
Availability: 12 oz bottles, Draft. New 22 oz bottles.
Arrival: Late May, 2012

7% ABV, 32 IBUs
