Frozen Pints Merges Beer & Ice Cream

Frozen Pints is an Atlanta, Georgia based ice creamery specializing in beer ice cream.  The flavors of great beer and the awesomeness of ice cream make Frozen Pints a no brainer, and when you hear the flavors you’ll start salivating.

There are 6 offerings by Frozen Pints:

Peach LambicEuropean sophistication meets southern comfort. The lightest of our options, juicy peaches and a lingering tartness combine for an almost champagne-like finish. You’ve had peach ice cream, but never like this

Honey IPA – Hopheads rejoice! A classic American IPA showcases strong hop flavors that are tempered with a local honey. The result? A full, well-balanced flavor laced with floral notes. Bitter sweet perfection.

Brown Chip Ale – A traditional Brown Ale brings hints of roasted hazelnuts, and sweet milk chocolate chips do what they do best. It’s an experience you’ll want to repeat time and again.

Cinnamon Espresso Stout – Wake up your taste buds with this bold flavor. Robust coffee, oak and vanilla flavors abound; Vietnamese cinnamon ties it all together. As complex as it is delicious.

Vanilla Bock – This is the one that started it all. A complex Bock paired with Madagascar vanilla. The hints of banana, dark fruit and cloves in this sweet cream will make your taste buds sing.

Malted Milk Chocolate Stout – For the chocaholics… this creamy chocolate stout is enhanced with rich malted milk in a simple yet satisfying blend. Short and sweet.

Frozen Pints has been making appearances around festivals in Atlanta (so hot. Ice cream makes sense.)  With plans for retail and larger sales area in the future. [FrozenPints via @PasteMagazine]

This Is How You Wreck A Coors Truck

I guess if you are going to steal a Coors delivery truck, you might as well crash it too.  And to just make the whole thing more trashy, wreck it in a Walmart parking lot.

Steven Ison, 29, stole the truck that was on delivery in Williston, North Dakota and went on a joy ride.  No word if any beer was stolen.  He could face $10,000 in fines, and 10 years in the pokey.  There is no taste of the Rockies in prison.  [WillistonHerald]

Rogue Good Chit Pilsner, Oct 1

Rogue Brewing’s newest addition to the Chatoe Rogue series is a floor malted pilsner.  All the ingredients were grown on Rogue’s hop & malt yards.  Floor malting isn’t an easy process for a brewery to under take.  Saving the time to type out the process, here’s a bit from wikipedia that gives you an idea:

The malting process starts with drying the grains to a moisture content below 14%, and then storing for around six weeks to overcome seed dormancy. When ready, the grain is immersed or “steeped” in water two or three times over two or three days to allow the grain to absorb moisture and to start to sprout. When the grain has a moisture content of around 46%, it is transferred to the malting or germination floor, where it is constantly turned over for around five days while it is air dried. The grain at this point is called “green malt”. The green malt is then kiln dried to the desired colour and specification.  Malts range in colour from very pale through crystal and amber to chocolate or black mal

Rough huh?  “Chit” is a reference to the rootlet that pops up during germination.

Style: Pilsner
Availability: 22oz bombers, Draft.
5.2% ABV

Chatoe Rogue Releases “Good Chit Pilsner”

NEWPORT OREGON, August 12, 2011 – Micro batch testing of the Rogue Floor Malting system at a SECRET LOCATION at 1001 SE 9th Ave, Portland, Oregon 97214 has concluded and the Floor Malted barley is being used to brew Chatoe Rogue’s Good Chit Pilsner.

Good Chit Pilsner is made with Rogue Farm barley that we Floor-Malted in small batches. Floor Malting is an, old fashioned, 8 day process that includes steeping, germination, raking, roasting, bagging and hands on love 24 hours a day. “Chit” refers to the start of the rootlets that emerge from the embryo of the kernel once steeping is complete and germination begins.

Floor-Malting is an extension of Rogue’s commitment to knowing and letting others know the Terroir, Province and Origin of its ingredients by Growing Your Own (GYO). Floor Malting in micro batches allows the Maltsters and Brewers to control variety, roast and complexion of their ingredients. The end creation is unlike anything available on store shelves.

Rogue is dedicated to saving the terroir of Oregon hops and barley, one acre at a time, by growing its own. The Rogue Grow Your Own (GYO) Micro Barley Farm is located in Oregon’s Tygh Valley Appellation and Rogue’s 42 acre Micro Hopyard is located in Oregon’s Wigrich Appellation.

Good Chit Pilsner will be on shelves on October 1st, 2011.

SweetWater Raises $93,000 To Benefit Chattahoochee River

SweetWater Brewing hosts Save the Hooch program from Memorial Day to July 4th each year with the Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, to help protect the Chattahoochee River.  The Chattahoochee is the source of not only drinking water for Atlanta, but the water for SweetWater’s beers.

On Saturday August 13th, a sold out crowd of supporters came out for the check presentation on the banks of the river for a check presentation of $93,000! 2011 was the largest year to date.  Local retaurants, bars, & retailers sold Save The Hooch t-shirts, and paper fish (you buy a fish for $1, $5, $10 and put your name or something witty on it, and it goes over the bar) to raise the money.

“What an unbelievable success!” said Freddy Bensch, SweetWater’s Big Kahuna. “Through the support from SweetWater’s fans and participating retailers we were able to raise nearly 100K. It’s inspiring to see the people of Atlanta come together to help save one of this city’s most precious natural  resource. Which of course, we love because a clean Chattahoochee River gives us the clean water we need to keep making great beer!”

Hopefully 2012 will break $100,000.  Photos of the event are on Facebook Album, and 11alive.com [PressRelease]

Ever Complain About Your Beer Laws? At Least You’re Not Utah

Mini kegs (aka chubbies) have just been banned in Utah. The 5 liter keg cans will be pulled for shelves on October 1st.  Motivation? Fear of over consumption seems to be the main reasoning, as Utah residents must be saved from themselves.

Squatters and Wasatch Brewing are producers of the mini kegs. The sales of the kegs have been very successful.  But the state of Utah thinks being able to purchase them is dangerous.  So it’s time to get them out of the hands of the people.  Remaining product must be shipped out of state for sale or destruction. (WTF? 1920’s anyone?)

A bit more of the crazy for you.  Zion curtains have been reestablished.   What are zion curtains?  Oh you’ll love this.  Bars must have curtains up hiding the bartenders and open liquor container from view of the patrons.  (HELP! I’ve seen too many liquor bottles and can’t drive!)

In addition, the # of liquor licenses available for new businesses has been reduced.  I’d like to say this isn’t true. No chubbies for you Utah. [SaltLakeTribune]
