The Drunk Diet – Lose Weight Wasted

The Drunk Diet.  Seems like a fantasy, but Lüc Carl did it.  He’s a heavy metal musician that’s more recently known for being Lady Gaga’s ex-boyfriend.   He found himself at 31 to be fat, bloated, and miserable.  He was pretty miserable over the split, and decided to make a change.  His change was running marathons and cycling.  He developed a better understanding of how the body works.  Instead of giving up his beloved alcohol, he changed his eating habits from late night processed meals to natural foods and exercising.

His new book started out as more of a journal of his activities.  Over time he developed a love for running and attributes that to his quitting smoking and losing almost 60 pounds.  All the while, he was still drinking.  In fact, the tagline for his book is “How I Lost 40 Pounds… Wasted.”  His true love?  Craft beer.  This one’s for you beer geeks – upon being asked if he would switch to Light Beer, Carl’s answer? “Not in public”.

The book is available for purchase & digital download at Amazon.

Dry Dock Goes Sour

Seven chardonnay barrels just arrived at Dry Dock Brewing Co. and are waiting to be filled with beer to be aged for six months.  The end result after adding some Brettanomyces and Lactobacillus during the brewing process will be a sour apricot brew.

More than likely the sour apricot will not be bottled but it will be served on tap at Dry Dock’s tasting room and at some local establishments.  They plan to brew limited batches at first to figure out what works best.  Dry Dock is currently looking for a new facility to expand their production and bottle these sour beers on a separate bottling line in the future.

Denver Beer Company Starts Barrel Aging

Not only has Denver Beer Company expanded production by adding two new seven barrel fermenters, but they have also somewhat secretly been bringing in barrels from around the world to begin barrel aging some of their beers.  One of these is a cognac barrel from France that is currently aging their barleywine.  There are also two wild turkey barrels aging Denver Beer Co.’s Russian Imperial Stout.  A French chardonnay barrel holds a Belgian Pale Ale.  After the first round of use with the barrels, co-founder Charlie Berger hopes to use them to make sours.

Mississippi Takes Step Closer To Law Changes

Mississippi is finally making some headway with their antiquated beer laws.  Three bills that will make for a better beer situation in the state passed the state senate.  Next stop, the house.

The bills are:

Senate Bill 2878 – Allows the alcohol by weight to be raised from 5% to 8%.

Senate Bill 2370 – Allows beer with greater than 5 percent alcohol by weight to be brewed. The beer could also be sold over Mississippi state lines.

Senate Bill 2600 – Allows breweries to provide samples of the beer.

Raise Your Pints is doing a lot of great work to help push through the barriers of Mississippi’s pretty strict alcohol laws.   Sadly, the home brewing beer (to legally allow home brewing in the state) died in committee recently.
