Lost Abbey Track #11: Devil Went Down To Georgia

We are close to rounding out the year of Lost Abbey Ultimate Box Set Releases. The 11th release is influenced by Charlie Daniels “Devil Went Down To Georgia.” A perfect title, as this edition features peaches, & black tea.  Lost Abbey took Angel’s Share and aged it fresh Heaven Hill Bourbon Barrels for 9 months. From there, fresh peaches, black tea and Brettanomyces (wild yeast) was added for a little funk.

Why? Tomme Arthur (Founder, Lost Abbey) had a sweet tea peach bourbon drink at Seattle Beer Week a few years ago. He wanted to brew a beer to mimic those flavors.

Style: American Strong Ale (w/ Peaches, Barrel Aged, Brett)
Availability: 12.7 oz bottles. Brewery release only. Drink on site only.
Arrival: November 10, 2012

12% ABV

Lost Abbey Takes The Highway To Hell with Track #6

The sixth entry in Lost Abbey’s Ultimate Box Set releases Saturday.  An ode to AC/DC’s 1979 hit Highway To Hell.    Track #6 is a blend of 2009 Bourbon Angel’s Share, and Brandy Barrel Aged Serpent’s Stout.  This hellish blend clocks in at 14.3% ABV.

Why is this blend unique?  Well, it’s reversed.

For the past two years The Lost Abbey has released a winter barrel aged blended strong ale. This amazing blend of beer has focused on a marriage between Bourbon Barrel Aged Serpents Stout and Brandy Barrel Aged Angel’s Share. We believe it’s one of the most amazing barrel releases we do each fall.

But in the spirit of old recordings and records I started thinking what would happen if we played this one in reverse? Would we hear the Demon himself on the record? So with that, we flipped the blend on its ears and spun it backwards. The result is a blend of Brandy Barrel Aged Serpent’s Stout and some Bourbon Barrel Aged Angel’s Share.

It’s still an epic struggle between good and evil, only this time we slowed it down and played it in reverse.

Style: American Strong Ale  (Barrel Aged)
Availability: 12.7 oz bottles. Brewery release only

Arrival: 6/16/12

14.3% ABV

Do You Want Hop 15 Or Not? You Decide

Port Brewing releases Hop 15 twice a year.  (February & August.)  As it closes in on February, the brewery has to make a decision.  Mongo, another double IPA is doing well already.  Do they brew another?  So here are the options:

1. Brew it! Get it out to the hop loving people!

2. Go without, brew it again in the summer

3. Brew a little for draft only, and let it go where it goes.

You’d be surprised what is in the lead right now.  [VoteHere]
