The Bruery Roble Blanco Hits Reserve Society

The Bruery Roble Blanco

The Bruery has revealed “Mystery Beer #1” to their Reserve Society members. Roble Blanco is on sale now, a beer that mimics a margarita.

Roble Blanco is a wheat beer aged in tequila barrels. The agave, combined with aging the beer with lime and salt, combines for a margarita (beer-rita) flavor.

Living in Southern California, we’re huge fans of both Mexican cuisine and, of course, Mexican cocktails. This is a tribute to our favorite blended fiesta beverage, the Margarita. We aged this wheat-based beer in Tequila barrels for an extended period of time, lending warmth and a roasted agave character. Coupled with a slight lime tartness and a classic, salty finish, this brew is a great approximation of the refreshing summer afternoon Margarita.

The Bruery Roble Blanco is offered in 750ml bottles.

Style: Wheat Ale (w/ Lime, Salt. Barrel Aged. Tequila.)
Availability: 750ml bottles, limited to Reserve Society members
Release: October, 2014. (First release)

Unknown Brewing’s Beer with a Really Long Name is Brewed with Scorpions

Unknown Brewing En Fuego

The Unknown Brewing Company (Charlotte, NC) is releasing a follow up to to the very recent Vehopcirator Imperial IPA. This name is much longer than the first – La Jordana del Escorpion en Fuego Hacia la casa del Chupacabra muerto.

This roughly translates to “The Path of the Fiery Scorpion through the House of the Dead Chupacabra”. Shortening it to Escorpion en Fuego, the beer is an imperial Mexican lager, with agave nectar, seranno peppers, and aged on tequila oak staves. Oh, just in case that wasn’t enough, 99 (food grade) scorpions.

When asked if these scorpions would affect the flavor, head brewer and owner Brad Shell responded “I’m not sure, that’s not the point. The point is this beer needs scorpions. Some things just have to happen”.

Unknown Brewing Escorpion en Fuego releases on The Day of the Day, November 1st in 22oz bombers and draft.

Style: Mexican Lager (w/ Seranno Peppers, Agave Nectar. Scorpions. Oak Aged. Tequila.)
Availability: 22oz Bombers, Draft.
Arrival: November 1, 2014

10.1% ABV

Cigar City’s Tequila Barrels Go Off Script

Cigar City Ne'er-do-well

Cigar City Brewing’s (Tampa, FL) Ne’er-do-well started its life intending on being El Murcielago, a double cream ale with lime peel and cumin. Thanks to the barrel changing the script on the brewers, it ended up being a little different. Some of the barrels started giving the cream ale some peanut flavor, so the brewery ran with it. Not without adding tamarind and some cayenne for good measure.

Ner-do-well began it’s life intending to be a new batch of El Murcielago. However, it ended up in a different place in its barrel life. You never know what might happen when you spend your life at the bottom of a barrel of tequila. We noticed that some of the barrels started contributing a peanut flavor to the beer so we rolled with it. We added tamarind and a bit of cayenne to create a Mexican-Thai hybrid. It simply is a ne’er-do-well.

Cigar City Ne’er-do-well will be available in 750ml bottles.

Style: Cream Ale (w/ Cayenne, Tamarind. Barrel Aged. Tequila.)
Availability: 750ml bottles
Arrival: TBA

The artwork was created Sean Dominguez, the brewery’s resident artist. Lost Abbey Agave Maria Ale will be packaged in 375ml corked and caged bottles, and distributed across the brewery’s entire distribution network. Agave Maria will be a spring seasonal after this first release.
