You love beer and tequila right? Combine them both, and you have a damn good beer. Cigar City Brewing (Tampa, FL) knows this, and that’s what they are doing above. El Murcielago is one of their tequila barrel offerings, aged in tequila barrels with lime.

Firestone Walker A Blend of 226 Oak Barrels, 8 Beers
Each year, Firestone Walker (Paso Robles, CA) celebrates their anniversary by blending together their various tasty offerings into one bass ass offering. This year’s blend features 226 oak barrels, and a blend 8 different beers. A tequila barrel was introduced this year for the first time. Firestone Walker 16th arrives in November, and the components have been revealed.

Velvet Merkin (8.7% ABV) – Aged in Bourbon barrels
-Traditional Oatmeal Stout (23% of final blend)
OG= 15P FG=5.5 IBU=32.5 Color= Black / 15% Oats / Hopped with 100% US grown Fuggles
Stickee Monkee (12.5% ABV) – Aged in Bourbon and Brandy barrels
-English Barley Wine (22.5% of final blend)
OG=27P FG=5.4P IBU=45 Color=28 / Brewed with Mexican Turbinado (Brown) sugar
Double Double Barrel Ale (14.2% ABV) – Aged 100% in retired Firestone Union barrels

Allagash BAT Is Aged In Tequila
Allagash Brewing’s (Portland, ME) BAT Ale is a draft only offering aged in tequila. The base beer is mainly made with two row barley, honey malt & rye for spice.

Cigar City El Murcielago For The “Year Of The Bat”
105 days ago, Cigar City Brewing mentioned they were tequila barrel aging Double Cream Ale. The result is El Murcielago (the bat). They didn’t stop at tequila aging. They through in lime peel and cumin for good measure.
The bat (or “el murcielago”) had a very important role in the making of this beer. Our winged furry friends were responsible for the pollination of blue agave plants, which of course leads to tequila. That tequila was aged in barrels,and those barrels were eventually emptied and found their way to our brewery. We then Filled those barrels with a high gravity double cream ale. And to give it even more oT a southwestern kick, we added some cumin and lime peel as well. El murcielago, we tip our hat to you. 2011-2012 has been designated by the United Nations as the Year of the Bat. Go to www.batcon.org for more information about supporting these awesome flying guys.
