The Bruery Mash & French Toast, no utensils required

The Bruery Mash & French Toast

Expanding the “mash” series month is The Bruery Mash & French Toast. Breakfast beers are here to stay.

The Bruery’s “Mash” series is based around a barleywine ale Mash, that is nuanced with a variety of favors. Other examples include Mash & Coconut, Mash & Grind, and Mash & Vanilla.

As for The Bruery Mash & French Toast, this is your breakfast beer of choice. The barleywine has been bourbon barrel-aged, with cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg and maple syrup.

If the allure of rich, caramelized notes or maple character don’t rouse you out of bed, the wafts from our brewer’s kitchen will, summoning you with nutmeg and cinnamon spices and warm vanilla character. It’s time to roll up your sleeves and Mash & French Toast. No utensils required.

Now for the bad news. The Bruery Mash & French Toast is only available to Reserve Society members.

Style: Barleywine (w/ Vanilla Beans, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Maple Syrup. Barrel Aged. Bourbon.)
Availability: 750ml Bottles. Reserve Society Release.

Ultimately pretty epic. Evil Twin Imperial Mexican Biscotti Cake Break

Evil Twin Imperial Mexican Biscotti Cake Break bottle

Evil Twin Imperial Mexican Biscotti Cake Break. Meet the mashup of two highly sought after beers that is sure to instill panic in the beer geeks. Let the sweating commence.

Evil Twin, who is building a brewery on their own in New York, has been contract brewing for years at Westbrook Brewing in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina – the birthplace of Westbrook’s Mexican Cake. “Cake” started out as a way to mark the brewery’s anniversary. Morgan and Edward Westbrook brewed an imperial stout with cocoa nibs, vanilla beans, cinnamon sticks, and fresh habanero peppers. Since then, the beer has become a hot commodity, selling in the secondary market for hundreds of dollars. Don’t even ask how much beer traders are asking for barrel-aged variants.

Then there’s Evil Twin Biscotti Break. As the name suggests, this imperial stout mimics the coffee shop dessert, brewed with vanilla and almond, and coffee.

Evil Twin Imperial Mexican Biscotti Cake Break slams together the best of both those beers. An imperial stout brewed with coffee, cinnamon, almonds, cocoa nibs, vanilla and habanero peppers. Both beers are awesome treats.

The result? An even bigger beer. Two dessert beers meeting in one glass could be overwhelming. Not in this case. As the beer warms, cinnamon chocolate and vanilla start to pop. Subtle elements of the two beer threads are far from a challenge to find in each sip. The only thing subtle here are the peppers. Two epic beers in one bottle. We thought only shampoo and conditioner could pull that off.

Evil Twin Imperial Mexican Biscotti Cake Break is a 22 ounce limited release.

Style: Imperial Stout (Coffee, Cinnamon, Almonds, Cocoa Nibs, Habanero Peppers.)
Availability: 22oz Bottles
Debut: Late November/December, 2016

10.5% ABV

Wicked Weed Barrel Aged Milk & Cookies release cancelled

Wicked Weed Bourbon Barrel Aged Milk & Cookies RIP

Wicked Weed Barrel Aged Milk & Cookies will not debut this year. The brewery has deemed the final blend isn’t up to the brewery’s standards. Sometimes barrels just don’t cooperate. The brewery has this to say:

It is with heavy hearts that we must say goodbye to 2016’s Barrel-Aged Milk and Cookies. After blending, BA Milk and Cookies just didn’t end up being the beer we hoped it would be. As such, we have decided to not release this years’ batch into distribution.

Original article below.

Last December, the Asheville, North Carolina based brewery released Milk & Cookies, an imperial milk stout brewed with cinnamon, vanilla, and golden raisins. A comfort beer, if you will. As you can imagine, that beer sold out pretty fast.

Wicked Weed Barrel Aged Milk & Cookies Imperial Milk Stout takes last year’s fireside beer a bit further, by barrel-aging this dessert beer in bourbon barrels. All you lack in a fire, and many leather-bound books.

Crafting the ultimate comfort beer was a winter challenge we happily embraced. Our Milk & Cookies Stout is a cold weather classic, and this version cranks up the comfort through barrel aging. We entrusted our Imperial Milk Stout with golden raisins, cinnamon, and vanilla into the warming embrace of Kentucky Bourbon Barrels to carry us home for the holidays. Relax. Drink Up. You’re home.

Wicked Weed Barrel Aged Milk & Cookies Imperial Milk Stout is a 12.7 ounce bottle offering.

Style: Imperial Milk Stout (w/ Cinnamon, Vanilla, Golden Raisins, Lactose. Barrel Aged. Bourbon.)
Availability: 12.7oz bottles
Release: Mid-December, 2016

9.5% ABV

Three Taverns Cranberry Sauced will kick off taproom can series

Three Taverns Cranberry Sauced

Three Taverns Sour Asylum 2 is back in action for the season, and for the first time – cans. This sour is basically Thanksgiving dinner in your mouth.

The Decatur, Georgia based brewery kicked off the Sour Asylum Series with Sour Asylum 1, a Lactobacillus kettle soured beer fermented with the brewery’s house lager yeast.

The second edition took that beer a step further with the addition of cranberry juice, cinnamon and clove. A perfect Thanksgiving sour beer. They call it “Cranberry Sauced” for a reason.

At this point, Three Taverns is at capacity. This is preventing them from putting another release into full production right now. With what little time they have to spare, the brewery is launching a taproom only series of can releases.

Cranberry Sauced is the second in our new series of lacto-fermented sour ales. Spiced with cranberry juice, cinnamon, and clove in the fermenter, and balanced by a pleasing acidity from the lactobacillus strain added to the kettle, this unique beer is your perfect companion to the Thanksgiving season.

Three Taverns Sour Asylum 2 is on tap the brewery starting today, September 1st. You’ll find it on tap in market in October.

Style: Berliner Weisse (w/ Cranberry Juice, Cinnamon, Clove)
Availability: Draft, 12oz Cans (Taproom)

Latest Return: November, 2016

Amazing beer name: Unknown Brewing Dos AKs

Unknown Brewing Dos AKs

Probably one of the best beer names we’ve heard all year. Unknown Brewing Dos AKs.

We’ve spent time around Charlotte, North Carolina’s Unknown Brewing. One fact most assuredly comes to mind. They are weird. We mean that in the most endearing way. So many folks take beer so damn seriously. Unknown just loves being a part of the industry.

More on the weird situation. Unknown’s Day of the Dead Beer Series has seen the likes of La Jordana del Escorpion en Fuego Hacia la casa del Chupacabra muertoa beer brewed with 99 food-grade scorpions, and “El Corazon Que Sangra Morado”, or “The Heart That Bleeds Purple.” Continuing down that tasty, odd ball path is Unknown Brewing Dos AKs.

Even before we explain the beer, we can’t we but giggle a little bit with the name. Say it a few times out loud and you’ll start to get it. (HINT: Stay thirsty my friends.) The base beer is an imperial stout, fermented with a blend of ale and Mexican lager yeast. Those two yeasts ferment at entirely two different temperatures, resulting in a blend of flavors.

Additionally, the beer features cacao nibs, chipotle peppers, poblano peppers, and cinnamon. The specialty grains used mimic the favor of raisins. The brewery even brewed the beer with mariachi music in the background. It’s brewing. They damn sure have fun with it.

Flavor. This isn’t your run of the mill stout, there is a lot going on. Chocolate, cinnamon, and a touch of smoke from the chipotle peppers. Try it with some vanilla ice cream.

Unknown Brewing Dos AKs is available in 22 ounce bottles and draft starting November 2nd, 2016.

Style: Imperial Stout (w/ Cinnamon, Cocoa Nibs, Chili Peppers, Coriander.)
Availability: 22oz Bottles, Draft.
Debut: 11/2/16

9.2% ABV
