Goose Island Bourbon County Horchata [Brewery Fake]

Goose Island Bourbon County Horchata

Editor’s Note: Goose Island Bourbon County Horchata turned out to be a fake label released by the brewery prior to the announcement. According to Goose Island, it’s not real.

Pastry stouts – i.e. stouts with dessert-like additions like vanilla beans or chocolate are wildly popular in beer right now. Goose Island has taken notice and looks to be adding pastry inspired additions to their famed Bourbon Country Brand Series.

Among the future dessert-themed releases could be Bourbon County Neopolitan Stout, as well as the above – Bourbon County Horchata Stout.

Horchata is aged in bourbon barrels with cinnamon, vanilla, and lactose milk sugar. Inspired by the popular sweet and milky Mexican drink.

Currently, Goose Island Bourbon County Horchata is slated as a draft offering. No confirmation currently on whether it will be bottled.

Style: Imperial Stout (w/ Cinnamon. Vanilla. Lactose. Barrel Aged. Bourbon.)
Availability: Draft
Debut: TBA

Dogfish Head creates a beer with the active ingredient in pepper spray

Dogfish Head IN YOUR MACE

Dogfish Head IN YOUR MACE! debuts this month, brewed with the active ingredient found in Mace Pepper Spray.

A creation brewed for the Extreme Beer Fest in Boston, this beer definitely lives up to the name. Brewery founder Sam Calagione partnered with his high school friend, who incidentally is also the Vice President of Sales at Mace Security International. Most brewers might not have seen the duo finding a way to collaborate but in true Dogfish Head “off-centered” tradition – they did.

The base beer is a coffee milk stout, brewed with lactose, chicory, and cinnamon verum chips from the Zanzibar Islands. That all sounds pretty typical until you add the chili oil, which happens to be the same chili oil found in Mace branchicod pepper spray.

“IN YOUR MACE! is one of our most fun and personal partnerships to date and I’m super proud of this small-batch team-up with our friends at Mace Brand pepper spray. Any day we get to brew a beer wearing full body suits, face masks and respirators is a memorable day in the brewhouse.” – Sam Calagione, CEO and Dogfish Founder

The brewery describes the flavor as  “smoky, moderately sweet stout gives off spicy nutmeg, anise and espresso aromas with a palette-warming chili spiced finish.”The beer might awaken your taste buds, but it’s definitely not strong enough to stop an intruder.

In addition to pouring February 2nd and 3rd at the Extreme Beer Festival in Boston, 200, 750-milliliter bottles will be available at the brewery’s Tasting Room in Milton, Delaware on February 17th.

Style: Milk Stout (w/ Cinnamon. Mace. Chili Oil. Chicory. Lactose.)
Availability: 750ml Bottles, Limited Draft.
Debut: 2/1/18

WHALE: Evil Twin Double Barrel Aged Imperial Mexican Biscotti Cake Break debuts

Evil Twin Double Barrel Aged Imperial Mexican Biscotti Cake Break

Evil Twin Double Barrel Aged Imperial Mexican Biscotti Cake Break, a double-barreled variant of the epic mash-up release, is now available in bottles.

This beer is a mashup that started off the coast of South Carolina. Mount Pleasant, South Carolina’s Westbrook Brewing was also one of the U.S. homes to Evil Twin Brewing on a contract basis. Each of the two breweries have a very popular dessert-style beer offering. Evil Twin’s is Biscotti Break, an imperial stout with flavors mimicking the coffee shop dessert. Westbrook celebrated an anniversary a few years ago with Mexican Cake Imperial Stout. As it turns out, that beer was so popular the brewery has been releasing it annually ever since.

Ultimately pretty epic. Evil Twin Imperial Mexican Biscotti Cake Break

Since both beers were brewed in the same house by friends, last year Evil Twin and Westbrook combined the two together creating Imperial Mexican Biscotti Cake Break. The best of both worlds in under one cap. Needless to say, your palate had a lot to sort out with each beautiful sip.

Popping up now is the epic mashup that has seen multiple barrels – Evil Twin Double Barrel Aged Imperial Mexican Biscotti Cake Break.

The imperial stout brewed with coffee, cinnamon, almonds, cocoa nibs, vanilla and habanero peppers has been resting in both bourbon and marsala wine barrels, resulting in an even more complex beer than before. It’s enough to make any barrel-aged beer fan sweat.

Evil Twin Double Barrel Aged Imperial Mexican Biscotti Cake Break will be available in 22-ounce bottles in very limited quantities. The first bottles surfaced around Halloween.

Joining this double barrel bottle of ridiculous is Evil Twin Maple Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Mexican Biscotti Cake Break.

Happy Hunting.

Southern Tier Cinnamon Roll expands the brewery’s dessert beer lineup

Southern Tier Cinnamon Roll

Southern Tier Cinnamon Roll has debuted going into November, for those needing a little dessert beer by the fireside.

Dessert-style beers have done quite well for the Lakewood, New York-based brewery. Choklat (featuring Belgian chocolate) Salted Caramel, Thick Mint (echoing the Girl Scout cookie) and the big daddy dessert beer – Creme Brûlée all grace the lineup. In mid-November, tack on a cinnamon bun inspired beer to the lineup.

Southern Tier Cold-Press Coffee Pumking debuts in September

The base beer features blend of toasted malts, cinnamon, and a touch of lactose milk sugar for a sweet, creamy finish.

In this brew, lightly toasted malts with subtly spicy hops blend into cinnamon avors and creamy lactose sugar. Their coalescence is so uncannily close to fresh baked cinnamon rolls that it was impossible to name this beer anything other than Cinnamon Roll Imperial Ale! Pairs perfectly with eggs benedict at brunch, after dinner, or next to the re for an unforgettable nightcap.

Southern Tier Cinnamon Roll is now available in late-October in 12 and 22-ounce bottles and draft.

Style: American Strong Ale (w/ Cinnamon. Lactose.)
Availability: 12oz, 22oz Bottles. Draft.
