Half Acre Remembers When It Was Easier Being A Kid

Half Acre Hammer Bullet ViseDo you remember when growing seemed a little simpler?  Kids could get in fights after school without going to jail, you could bring a plastic knife in your lunchbox without going to jail, you could skip school without going to jail.   Half Acre Brewing does.  On Friday the Chicago based brewery debuts  The Hammer, The Bullet, & The Vise.  The beer is a reminder of a simpler time when kids were free to be kids, before Facebook, cellphones, bike helmets and a claustrophobic false sense of security.

There was a time when children ran around loose and fearless, getting filthy and being perfectly reckless. Kids kicked the crap out of each other and instantly let it go, they built unsafe structures to call their own and lived far more free of the burden of being broken. At some point helmets took over, little hands made cel phone calls to check in and parental reign created a claustrophobic, false sense of safety.

In remembering a time when kids ran wild, we brewed The Hammer, The Bullet, & The Vise.  A nutty and soft english brown beer brewed with all German malts to lull your mind.  This beer will be a draft only release to be had by the growler fill at our brewery. We will post when this beer is available.

Style: English Style Brown Ale
Availability: Draft only, on tap at the brewery 2/10

Widmer’s Kill Devil Features Palm Sugar, Molasses, & Rum

Coming this Spring – An insanely good sounding Widmer Brothers Kill Devil Brown Ale.   90% of this ale is brewed with palm sugar and molasses, aged in rum barrels. 10% is barreled straight brown ale.    The Brother’s Reserve is a series of 22oz bombers (presented in a nice box) that ranges from barleywines, braggots, wheat ales and more. Kill Devil is the 6th release.

Sweet barbados and blackstrap molasses provide touches of toasted sugar, black licorice, and blackened toffee to this brown ale while the palms sugars invite notes of subtle sweetness.  Conditioned in Puerto Rican rum barrels, the vanilla and oak flavors and aromas integrate with the calypso hop’s soft tropical and stone fruit aromas.

Style: Brown Ale (Barrel Aged, Rum)
Availability: 22oz bombers. Limited Draft.

9.5% ABV

Nothing say Christmas like hanging out with good friends and brewing up something special.   Thanks to Matt Cole from Fat Heads and Richard (Ricardo) Norgrove from Bear Republic for braving pre-holiday travel to come to Stone then week before Christmas holiday and brew this “sort of” old-school American  (or Texas) brown ale.  The recipe we came up with has a host of specialty malts, molasses, brown sugar, Columbus, Bravo, Brewers’ Gold, and for the first time at Stone, Cascade Hops!  We’re hoping our brew brings back fond memories of the earliest classic craft brews.  Enjoy your trip down memory lane!

Style: American Brown Ale
Adjuncts: Brown Sugar, Molasses

Availability: 12oz bottles
Arrival: 2/20/12
