Terrapin & Shmaltz Release 2012 Reunion Ale

Reunion Ale and the great cause the comes with it is back for another year. Terrapin and Shmaltz Brewing have teamed back on up on another edition.  The 2012 collaborative effort is much like last years release, except that chili peppers didn’t make the cut. A small cast change – cinnamon (the spice, not the stripper) joins the group.

The Cause: Virginia MacLean died from complications from her Multiple Myeloma on June 4, 2007. Virginia was not only the inspiration for the REUNION- A Beer for Hope project (now in its sixth year), but an active participant in every facet of its creation. It was her wish that we continue the mission of raising funds for IMBCR and bringing hope to others. Her dream and memory ware carried forward by her fellow Reunion founders Paul McErlean, brewmaster at Shmaltz Brewing Co., and Alan Shapiro, who worked with Virginia at Pete’s Brewing Company during her initial illness. Worldwide, over 1,000 people per day are diagnosed with this cancer of the plasma. IMBCR is one of the world’s leading independent researchers. Their work not only affects myeloma patients, it also produces benefits in areas such as lymphoma and breast cancer.

Style: Brown Ale (w/ Cinnamon, Cocoa Nibs & Shells, Vanilla, Dextrose)
Hops: Willamette
Malts: Pale 2 Row, Victory, Special Roast, Crystal, Brown Malt, Chocolate
Availability: 22oz bombers, Draft. All Terrapin markets.

7.9% ABV, 38 IBUs

Red Brick 17th Anniversary Blending [PICS]

Red Brick Brewing is on the eve of the 3rd barrel aged anniversary release. Last week, BeerStreetJournal was on site at the brewery when Dave McClure and his brewing team in Atlanta, Georgia pulled the next Brick Mason Series brew from the the barrels. The 2012 release marks 17 years, and is a brown ale aged in Jim Beam barrels. Before the blending, all 72 barrels were placed in the cooler overnight. The next day, the barrels were forklifted two at a time to the tank area for blending. Every barrel had to be tasted to ensure the flavor quality before blending.

You see below, each barrel is opened, sampled then pumped (with CO2) into the brite tank.  Red Brick 17th Anniversary has been bottled and will start shipping over the next week.

Style: Brown Ale (Barrel Aged)
Availability: 12 oz bottles, Limited Draft.

Dogfish Head Indian Brown’s Manifest Destiny

Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale
Dogfish Head (Milton, DE) has announced that Indian Brown Ale will ship year round in California, Arizona, Washington, Oregon and Colorado.

Clocking in at 7.2% ABV, this prototypical dark IPA blends the caramel notes of a Scotch Ale, the color of an American Brown and the hopping regimen of an IPA. Like 60 Minute and 90 Minute — its brothers from another mother — Indian Brown is dry-hopped for a burst of floral aromas.

Style: Brown Ale
