Stone Southern Charred (Barrel Aged Double Bastard) Returns

Stone Brewing Southern Charred

Stone Brewing Co’s Southern Charred is making a return soon. Charred is Stone’s Double Bastard (a strong ale) that spent 5 months in first use Kentucky bourbon barrels. That’s less time than the first release that was a blend of beer aged 13months, and 10 months in barrels.

The dark amber ale was brewed with a huge malt bill and a belligerent amount of hops making it a heavy, bitter beast of a beer.

Southern Charred joins the Bastard Box Set, Arrogant Bastard, Double Bastard and Lukcy Basartd in recent releases.

Style: American Strong Ale (Barrel Aged, Bourbon)
Availability: 500ml bottles. Draft. Very limited

Distribution: 2014 distro, TBA

11.2% ABV

Ed note: Updated with new barrel aging time.

  1. I can’t imagine that they would put this in the Bastard Box Set. They would release a 500ml corked and caged Quingenti Millilitre Series with 3 other bombers… Can’t be right. Not trying to be rude, but you might fact check/correct that.

    • It may be the wording, but the sentence says that Southern Charred joins the Bastard Box Set, Arrogant Bastard, Double Bastard…among RECENT releases. I bought the box set last night, and not in it… lol

  2. I see. I guess it’s because he left out BA Arrogant Bastard (the highlight) from the box set list that people could be thrown. Also, I took the phrase “JOINS the box set in recent releases”…Ah, nevermind. It’s horrible phrasing. In no way are they joined. What a weird word, by the way. If you say “X” beer “joins” a sampler pack, then mention the other beers in the sampler, it implies that it’s in the sampler pack. That’s it. If you said Jimmy Page recently joined the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but it really meant they just shared a cab, you might think that they played together.
